Top Ten Cozy/ Wintry Reads

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by
That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new Top Ten list will be posted. Everyone is welcome to join. Link back to The Broke and the Bookish so everyone can check out other bloggers' lists. It's a fun way to get to know fellow bloggers.

This week is Top Ten Cozy or Wintry Reads. I went back and forth and decided to go with wintry settings, or books set in a cold environment. For some reason I love reading a good dystopian or psychological thriller set in the frozen north or in Antarctica. Why does terror go better with the cold?

The Wolves of Winter

A dystopian set in the Yukon and one of my favorite reads of 2018.

City of the Lost (Rockton, #1)

Another one set in the far Canadian north.

Obsidian and Stars (Ivory and Bone, #2)

This is an Ice Age setting.

The Winds of Winter (A Song of Ice and Fire, #6)

Hey a guy can dream, right?

A Dance with Dragons (A Song of Ice and Fire, #5)

Okay at least this one is available and much of the action takes place in the North.

My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories

Blackfish City

A floating city in the Arctic Circle

The Snows of Ganymede

Mission to Moulokin (Icerigger, #2)

  2. Oh, yes, City of the Lost! I should've put that on my list. :)

  3. I haven't read many of these books, but they do look like they'd be ideal for winter. My TTT

  4. I've not a fan of every story in the 'True Love' collection, but I do like a couple of them (and feel I should re-read again sometime), and they make it worth owning. :)

  5. I mean, if you add the threat of freezing to death in the snow, everything is scarier...because you feel more trapped or something. Have a great week and thanks for stopping by my blog. - Katie

  6. The Winter Mysteries has a look of the Classic Crime Series.

  7. Hahahahahaha Winds of Winter. I read an article that he was holing himself up in a cabin until he finished that book.

Wolves of Winter sounds interesting. Love dystopians. My True Love Gave to Me made my list this week, although I haven't finished it yet.

  8. I did think of including the winds of winter in my list too, but figured it was wishful thinking as it's never going to be published.

  9. I'm dreaming of The Winds of Winter too! Maybe this year...*sigh* and I've still to read the second part of A Dance With Dragons! Zodiac Station is on my list to read this month.

  10. Nice picks! I tend to forget what season most of my books occur is. Usually because it's not key to the story, but now after visiting so many blogs I am realizing all the ones I forgot about! Lol.

    Here's my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

  14. Ooo… I'm intrigued by The Wolves of Winter. Love all the covers of these books.

  15. Blackfish City is high on the list of books I just didn't get to this year. Maybe I can catch up next year:-)

  16. I've only read the first two on your list, but I agree -- they have very atmospheric, wintry settings! THIS FALLEN PREY, the third book in the Rockton series, is on my list today.

    Happy TTT!

  17. Thrillers and mysteries are kind of more exciting in the winter. I guess it just evokes danger, the dark and the bad weather.

  18. This would be a perfect time to read The Wolves of Winter. I can't believe I didn't put it on my list since I've already read it!

  19. Definitely Winds of Winter! I think all the GoT books are nice to read while it is cold outside and there is a fire roaring in the fireplace inside.

  20. I eyed My True Love Gave to Me when it first came out but didn't get around to picking it up. It does seem like a perfect winter read to cozy up with. Great list!

  21. Cold = being miserable for me so it totally fits into the terror/thriller genre really well for me. Like it's already horrible outside and now you have to deal with crazy people, that's the ultimate hell.

We'll get Winds of Winter eventually!

  22. I think it's a really difficult topic

  23. Nice list! My True Love Gave to Me sounds sweet. I'll have to check it out. Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

  25. I didn't know Blackfish City was set in the Arctic Circle. I am still intrigued by this book. ❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄

  26. I'm so intrigued by many of these titles. Great picks as always, especially the ones I haven't heard of because it gives me a nudge to pick them up somewhere in the future. I really adore reading George R.R. Martin in the winter. There's just a quality to his books that is so very fitting with this time of the year. And, of course, My True Love Gave to Me is basically a must-read in terms of fluffy YA. Great picks!

  27. I usually like to binge Christmas novellas this time of year but I haven't been reading much at all.

  28. The Wolves of Winter! Every time I see that book I want to read it and then I forget about it and the cycles go on and on. I think I'll go ahead and see if my library has it before I forget again. Great list, I think these fit the topic well. :)

  29. The more lists I visit, the more books I realize I could have listed. I liked My True Love Gave to Me. There were a few amazing shorts in that book.

  30. If only GRRM would wrap things up! I've been waiting for Winds for so long I've started to forget where the story left off. :(

    ReplyDelete
  31. City of the Lost is a great winter read. I can't wait to read the new book in that series.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The Wolves of Winter is on my TBR. I don't think I read too many books with cold settings!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Great list! And yes, a guy can dream about reading The Winds of Winter. This gal is dreaming about that too, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Lol, yes, at least it's available for you to read! And you can definitely dream about reading The Winds of Winter - eventually it'll come out and your dream will come true (one of those dreams that do come true).

  35. HA Winds of Winter cracked me up. Definitely agree with Wolves of Winter. Not so much Blackfish City because uh, it made me want to drown myself in an ice lake or something. Oooh MTLGTM is a good one too- so many wintry stories! One of these days I am going to read Obsidian and Stars, too. There better be more mammoths though.

  36. Dystopia in the Yukon? *adds book to TBR* (This is entirely my first time hearing about it but I am an easy sell, I guess? Especially hearing that it's one of your top books for this year!)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Great minds think alike! I went with the same theme, and glad to see we both had City of the Lost on our lists. Great book.

  38. I actually am the opposite -- cold settings make me feel coold, and I hate the cold :) so i tend to avoid them, mostly. *shrugs* I'm weird Greg, WEIRD./

  39. I saw The Wolves of Winter at a thrift shop and nabbed it. I remember it being one of your favorites. I hope to read it soon!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I love your list but mostly... Winds of Winter. I think we are all dreaming of that one! The Wolves of Winter sounds good! I'm gonna add that to the TBR. Thanks for sharing!

    ReplyDelete
  41. My first thought was the Armstrong series when I was this topic. The Wolves of Winter looks good.

    ReplyDelete
  42. These are some of the great picks though I haven't read any of the these :D

    ReplyDelete
  43. Basically the entire ASOIAF series is full of cold, wintry vibes! And based on the title, I have high expectations for WInds of Winter as well!

    ReplyDelete
  44. The Wolves of Winter looks interesting, but they all look like great picks!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Haha funny with Winds of Winter. Like we might get it the winter of 2025. ;) :P

    ReplyDelete
  46. ASOIAF make great wintery reads. Thanks for sharing. ;)
