Sunday Post #207

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

We're pushing into the middle of August already. It's been kind of a quick week, went by fast for whatever reason. I've been reviewing two books a week for a couple of weeks with the hiatus of Top Ten Tuesday, but with TTT coming back I'll be back to one a week. Fall will be here soon and I'm kinda ready for the fall stuff... turning leaves, cooler air, and October.

I read Emma in the Night and I'm in the middle of Friend Request. Emma was quite good, and Friend Request has a freaky premise. What if someone long dead sends you a friend request on Facebook? That was enough to hook me. :)  I was also happy to see this week that Marcella and Doctor Foster both have second seasons on the way.  Marcella in particular I thought was very good, but Doctor Foster is a hidden gem too. Both are on Netflix and both are Brit productions. Good stuff!!

I reviewed A Map for Wrecked Girls this past week and also The Lying Game. Next week I'll have reviews up for The Good Neighbor and The Collapsing Empire, a good SF book that happens to be my first John Scalzi read. I also talked about Melisandre last week in my discussion post. And... On The Run VII might just be this week also. Probably Monday? Oh and it's not really a cover yet, but the third book in the Wayfarers series (The Long Way To A Small, Angry Planet and A Closed and Common Orbit) has a title.

A Map for Wrecked GirlsThe Collapsing Empire (The Interdependency #1)

  1. Haha, love the Yoda coffee pic, it's like me every single morning!
I've heard a lot about Friend Request, however, it feels very similar to the horror movie with the same title I watched a while ago, so I am not entirely sold.

    1. I know, right? I laughed so hard when I read it. I'm reading Friend Request now and so far I'd describe it more as a thriller, there's no real horror at the moment. Slightly suspenseful, but not a lot actually, at least yet...

  2. I have Emma in the Night on my kindle, I'm glad it was good! Friend Request definitely sounds very intriguing! I'll be looking for your thoughts on that one.
I'm kind of ready for fall, too... but I do wish it would be a little bit warmer during the day - love the cool nights we've already gotten, though.
Have a great week ahead and happy reading!

  13. I'm not ready for it to be the middle of August. I have so much to do . . . Although, as you pointed out, the end of summer means fall, and I do love fall. Both Emma in the Night and Friend Request sound good.

I'm looking forward to your thoughts on The Collapsing Empire. I've only read (well, listened to) Scalzi book and I really liked it. I'd like to try more of his work.

I hope you have a great week, Greg!

    1. I'm not either... way too fast. But fall is nice. Emma in the Night was really good.

I liked Collpasing Empire! It started off strong with a prologue, then the first few chapters were kinda slow, then it took off. So once I got into it I loved it!

  14. I'm so ready for cooler temps, too, Greg but it won't be happening anytime soon here in Southern California. Heck I'm glad we're back in the 90s as opposed to 100+ that we've been having.

I looked at the cover of Friend Request but didn't know the premise. That is definitely a fun hook. Hope you end up loving it. Emma in the Night piques my interest, too. Looking forward to your reviews now that I'm back in town. :)

  16. That coffee thing is me entirely. I am glad you are looking forward to fall. I... am not. Like- I don't dislike fall, but I could live without winter, so. YAY for more On the Run! I am looking forward to your thoughts on Friend Request too, seems like one of those books that could be really good or... really cheesy, basically. I LOVE the purple picture you shared- such an amazing atmosphere! Love the new Wayfarers title. You have reminded me that I must purchase book 2 immediately :)

I heard my first crickets a couple of days ago which is always the signal that summer is on its way out. We have still been having some pretty warm humid days, but the nights have been cool and great for sleeping.

Loved, loved, loved On the Run last week! I didn't have to do that much comment vomiting so things are looking up. Ha ha. Have a fab week. :(
