It was a pretty good week. I got some reading in (seriously this has been a good summer for reading) and watched a few shows. Started the week off with a Venetian festival in Saugatuck- a lighted boat parade, fireworks and some awesome music- oh and Marro's pizza- and other than that it's been warm but not horribly so. Pretty much summer weather. August though... what gives?
Last week I posted On The Run V, and thanks to everyone who commented. It's been fun and the story keeps going. I was just posting on Twitter that I spent Friday night writing the next few.
Last week I also reviewed The Secret History Of Us and This Is Not A Test. Both were great. A Map for Wrecked Girls was okay- review to come- and The Good Neighbor was similarly okay.

I need to check pit that trailer
ReplyDeleteYes you do!! :)
DeleteThe Venetian festival sounds wonderful. I think there's something similar in Newport Beach or somewhere in that area at a different time of year, but I've never been. Someday, perhaps. I enjoyed the videos you shared this week! I need to get caught up with Dark Matter. It's been ages since I was last a drive-in. There is on in town and another one in the next town over, but I haven't been to either. A friend keeps suggesting I take my daughter--and we might just do that one day.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great weekend, Greg. I am slowly getting back into blogging and hopefully will be reading more now that things have calmed down some.
The Venetian festival is fun. And I love Dark Matter! I'm liking this season a lot.
DeleteWe used to have a drive-in in my hometown and it was so fun to go. There's another one up north but I haven't been yet.
It sounds like you had a great week, Greg! I can't believe August has started, either... where did all those long, lazy weeks go?
ReplyDeleteHave a fantastic week ahead and happy reading.
Lexxie @ (un)Conventional Bookviews
Not bad! How is Spain? Hope your last week there is a good one. :)
DeleteI'm glad it's August. That means Winter Is Coming with cold days and nights to curl up with a good book!
ReplyDeleteHa ha right? Bring on winter...
DeleteSounds like a great week!! Glad it is a good reading summer for you. Mine has been awful! What Happened to Monday looks really good. Kind of Orphan Black vibes with the same actress paying a bunch of roles though right? Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt was a pretty good week. And I think What Happened does kinda look like Orphan Black, I'm looking forward!
DeleteMy goodness - to find books from back in the day with $.40 on the cover would be so neat. I've been hooked on Salvation lately. Yes, I can believe it's August because it's my birthday month(lol), I just need the heat to be removed. Love, love love retro diners and drive-ins. Though the last drive-in I attended, I fell asleep, and they had to kick me off the lot because they wanted to go home. Yep, I was the only car there. (lol) Hugs...
ReplyDeleteI know?? I don't think I've heard of Salvation- will have to check it out? And happy birthday this month!! Yeah I could do without the heat...
DeleteI love those retro diners and similar places. Ha ha that's a funny story. :)
Right? This has been a great summer for reading. I've been blaming all of the rain, but maybe there's more to it.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a great summer of reading! Maybe all the killer new releases, although ya rain doesn't hurt. :)
DeleteOkay, What Happened to Monday is definitely going on my watch list! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Mine too!
DeleteSounds like August is off to a good start for you Greg! Where did July go? I swear it has flown by!
ReplyDeleteThis is the first I've heard of What Happened to Monday, but I'm so interested! Is it a book you read by chance? I think it's one I'd like to read before watching, if it is a book!
Have a great week!
July disappeared. And it's not even remotely fair... and as far as I know it's NOT a book, just a Netflix original- I think??
DeleteThe Venetian festival sounds like so much fun! I love boat parades. They are always so pretty and decorated great. It definitely sounds like your August is off to a great start! Off to go read your reviews!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun, and the lighted boat parade is so fun, to see what they come up with. And yay!!
DeleteSaugatuck looks pretty awesome, and I love outdoor festivals. That is probably what I miss the most with my daughter so far away, I have nobody to go to festivals with me (it was our summer thing).
ReplyDeleteSaugatuck is great. And aw I can understand, that would be hard! Hopefully you'll get to go to one together soon!!!
DeleteWhoa, a Venetian festival? That's sounds potentially awesome. What does that entail, exactly? What Happened to Monday looks great, I love Noomi Rapace.
ReplyDeleteThe Venetian festival is basically an artsy thing, with lighted boats (it's a harbor town) and fireworks and all that. Saugatuck's pretty artsy. It's an excuse to party.
DeleteI think What Happened to Monday looks great too!
Sigh, so A Map for Wrecked Girls IS prettier on the outside, eh? And seriously, how is it already August!? Didn't summer JUST start? I swear, each one goes by faster than the last. The Venetian festival still sounds SO fun. Glad there will be more On the Run- and more than one, yay!
ReplyDeleteWhat Happened to Monday looks quite good, I will have to add it to my list of crap to watch. And that mansplaining thing was TOO funny hahah.
You know, A Map for wrecked Girls is fine, it's not a bad book, it just didn't blow me away. I've been reading so many phenomenal books and it just fell into the 3 star category for me. My review will be this week but basically I think it just took too long to get to the secret reveal. But I did like the characters.
DeleteThank you! More On the Run tomorrow. :) And what Happened to Monday- no doubt, now I have ANOTHER show to watch!!!
You could have told me that was the real actress for Harley Quinn and I would have believed it. Some of these cosplayers are amazing!
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
I know, you'd think, right?
DeleteI'm definitely going to check out What Happened to Monday! Very cool, thanks for sharing, Greg!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to What Happened To Monday!
DeleteI'm curious about The Secret History of Us....and I love the retro diner. Some of the interiors in my home have that retro diner feel...Coca Cola, etc.
ReplyDeleteLoved the What Happened to Monday trailer. Glenn Close does "evil" very well.
Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.
The secret History Of Us was good, I thought. And the retro diner look is awesome.
DeleteI always like seeing your Coke stuff. :)
The Venetian festival sounds delightful. You read some great books. I loved This is Not a Test and hope for more books soon. The cosplayers are amazing. My niece is really into and makes her own costumes.
ReplyDeleteThe Venetian fest was great. and yes it's amazing what some of those cosplayers do!
DeleteThat cosplay is amazing. Have a great week :)
ReplyDeleteYou too Maree, thanks!
DeleteI am looking forward to the secret of us I liked Jessi Kirbys previous book. What happened to Monday looks so good just added it to my to watch list. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteI really liked Secret History Of Us.
DeleteI could look at Quinn winking her eye all day long...
ReplyDeleteVenetian festival sounds just wonderful :)
I know, I loved that. :)
DeleteOmgawd, that mansplaining thing is hilarious. I get that done to me in the Dean Owner's Association Facebook group all the time. I don't even bother to go over to the forums on the website. I should have chosen a gender neutral username. Ha ha. XD
ReplyDeleteOur temps dropped big time last night. I am freezing right now. Last Sunday when I was talking about the balloon rally I should have said next weekend. It is this weekend. I didn't like any of the bands that were playing the outdoor concerts, so we were just going to city bus it and walk in for a $5 admission on Friday, but it rained like a monsoon, so we scrapped that idea. My babysitting schedule and my son's work and video game night with his buddies all conflicted after that. There's always next year. :)
I have never been to a boat festival. I bet I would love it though because I love lights on the water and I love boats!
I caught up with my comment vomiting on your blog. Ha ha. I thought I was going to be able to start keeping current last week, but it didn't happen. Hopefully this week I can keep up with what I call my "core bloggers";fingers crossed.
I am caught up with On the Run and am excited there is more coming! Have a fantastic week. :)
I loved it, I had to watch it several times. I hadn't even heard of mansplaining until recently, but yeah...
DeleteWe had the same on Friday. the whole day was like 20 degrees cooler, it felt COLD. The lighted boat festival is good fun.
And ha I like your comment vomiting!
I agree that even warm, this is not a real summer weather! SOMEONE owns me a summer! humph! the Venetian festival sounds awesome an thank you for posting HQ. I lover her! This week I plan to catch up with the last On The Run I missed! Thanks for sharing your writing.
ReplyDeleteYeah it's been a mild summer. And thank you for reading! I appreciate it...
DeleteThat sounds like a great festival Greg. Here is has been raining a lot. I really hope it gets better soon.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week and happy reading!
Oh my gosh the Birth of Mansplaining video is hilarious!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a good week! Hopefully this week is just as great!
Ooh! The Collapsing Empire. And the artwork is lovely as always :) have a great week!
ReplyDeleteNot heard of What Happened To Monday but that looks pretty interesting. :)
ReplyDeleteAugust weather is being really strange which worries me, I don't want an early winter. :(
Have a great week!
Stormi
Week in Review
Our weather here is strange too, but the other way around. Our leave are already changing and falling, and we are really hoping that doesn't mean that we are going to have a early and bad winter which is normally what is does. Ugh! Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteJenea's Book Obsession's Sunday Post
Awesome wrap up! I still need to get my hands on The Secret History Of Us!
ReplyDeleteI loved This Is Not A Test, really good book. The weather here has been pretty normal, but wet.
ReplyDeleteMy Weekly Update
The Venetian Festival sounds like fun! I'm enjoying the milder weather -- I mean, it's still summery, but I'll take low 80s and medium humidity over high 90s and high humidity, hands down.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to pop by again later to watch the birth of mansplaining video. I gave myself 30 minutes to visit blogs, and I'm already past that -- but I'm glad I stopped by! Have a great week.
Glad you had a great week! I really love the Harley Quinn cosplay photos! I need to cosplay myself someday.
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Sunday Post !
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog and join in this week’s Book Photo Sundays!
Oh Harley Quinn! A friend wore a Harley Quinn dress today to the book market we visited. :D
ReplyDeleteI love the Harley Quinn pics - she's my favorite. You always find the best pictures and art. Glad you're having a great reading summer. I sort of hit a slump after Final Girls but am doing OK now. Have a great week Greg!
ReplyDeleteI love This Is Not a Test. I really need to read the sequel. It's been weird summer weather where I live, but I'll take it!
ReplyDeleteOooh, I think I'm going to have to kick my Netflix ban to the curb for What Happened to Monday! It looks pretty cool. And I loved that Cavemansplaining vid. So funny!
ReplyDeleteThe Venetian festival sounds fascinating! I wish we had more cultural kind of stuff like that around here.
And ugh, August. Super hot here but I'm mostly just surprised how far into the month we are already. Time is flying! :(
Have a great week, Greg! :)
The Venetian festival sounds like a lot of fun. We have festivals here but it's too hot to stay outside to really enjoy them. It's great you've gotten a lot of reading and watching tv. Even though the kids are off I didn't get as much time for either. Work is just draining me lol. I hope you have another great week!
ReplyDeleteThe Venetian festival sounds pretty cool. I hadn't seen the What Happened to Monday trailer before. It looks pretty good. The FoD video was funny. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe covers of those books look awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteCheck out my Sunday Post at El’s Book Reviews! I truly appreciate it!

ReplyDeleteAnne @ The Reading Life
So glad that you enjoyed The Secret History of Us and This is Not a Test! I am curious about that new Kirby book. I liked her previous novel Golden, though that book is very different from The Secret History of Us. :D I hope you have a lovely week, Greg! =)
ReplyDeleteAlyssa @ The Eater of Books!
Glad to hear you had a great week, Greg. I did too. Oh I love all the videos and pictures. Thank you for sharing. Enjoy our books and have a wonderful week. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Venetian festival sounds like a load of fun. Good that your weather is cooling down slightly and is bearable.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh!! Mansplaining is sooooo funny!! Wha ha ha!!! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMmmm..... I'll look into The secret history of us.
Hope you will have a good week!
I almost started A Map for Wrecked Girls this past weekend; maybe I'll just pass. What Happened to Monday looks awesome. Adding that to my list right now. Cavemansplaining!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA
ReplyDeleteI think A Map for Wrecked Girls is an okay read, but yeah I can't recommend it like super enthusiastically. It was just okay.
DeleteI can't wait to hear your thoughts on Scalzi's new novel! Happy reading :)
ReplyDeleteI liked it! It was my first John scalzi and I loved the prologue, then the first few chapters didn't wow me, then it took off! Ended up liking it lots!
DeleteYou've gotta love Harley!
ReplyDeleteI love that mansplaining vid, it is so true!!!
I love that HQ cosplay!!!
DeleteI LOVE DRIVE-INS yesssss. There is one by my cottage off of Lake Huron that is government funded and it's the best. There's even a tiny little concessions stand and THEY FRACKEN SELL FULL SIZE OUT OF THE BARREL DILL PICKLES (among other things, of course) and fracken soft pretzels and ugh now I miss it. I haven't been there since last summer, and it's one of my favorite places to go and holds so many memories including seeing all of the Narnia movies there.
ReplyDeleteFor ONLY EIGHT DOLLARS you get to watch the two movies they're playing that night. It's so fantastic.
Wow, sounds awesome! Is that by Tawas? Just curious- I grew up on that side but live on the west side now. There's a drive-in (I think it's still there) up by traverse in one of those small towns, but I haven't been there... those pickles rock, and how cool to see the Narnia movies on the big screen like that!
DeleteWe had a drive in in my homtown before it went out and it was so cool going there. The concession stand was half of the fun.
I spoke too soon regarding the weather. Humid came back with a vengeance. LOL.
ReplyDeleteLoving the Harlequin co-play images. Hope you have a great week! ~Aleen
Ugh humidity is the worst!
DeleteYay for lots of reading. Summer has to be good for something, right? I'd not heard of What Happened to Monday before but it does look pretty cool. I am definitely checking that out when it's out.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good week. Like all the Harley Quinn stuff and What Happened to Monday looks good as well
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear your summer has been good for reading, I also had a good summer for reading so far. That festival you attended sounds like it was fun! Nice sci-fi pictures you included this week! I hope you'll have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe Venetian Festival sounds really fun! That Mansplaining video is hilarious! Love it! You're getting some great reading done this summer. Mine has been crawling but I'm hoping the pace is going to pick up soon. I love the Harley Quinn cosplay. I recorded Suicide Squad months ago but have yet to watch it. No idea why I keep putting it off as I've been wanting to see it since it was at the theater. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe Venetian Festival sounds lovely! I love the month of August generally speaking because it tends to be less humid around here than July! Way to go for reading so much this Summer, I've been failing miserably so far :( Have a great week!! xx
