Sunday Post #206

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

It was a pretty good week. I got some reading in (seriously this has been a good summer for reading) and watched a few shows. Started the week off with a Venetian festival in Saugatuck- a lighted boat parade, fireworks and some awesome music- oh and Marro's pizza- and other than that it's been warm but not horribly so. Pretty much summer weather. August though... what gives?

Last week I posted On The Run V, and thanks to everyone who commented. It's been fun and the story keeps going. I was just posting on Twitter that I spent Friday night writing the next few.

Last week I also reviewed The Secret History Of Us and This Is Not A Test. Both were great. A Map for Wrecked Girls was okay- review to come- and The Good Neighbor was similarly okay.

  2. The Venetian festival sounds wonderful. I think there's something similar in Newport Beach or somewhere in that area at a different time of year, but I've never been. Someday, perhaps. I enjoyed the videos you shared this week! I need to get caught up with Dark Matter. It's been ages since I was last a drive-in. There is on in town and another one in the next town over, but I haven't been to either. A friend keeps suggesting I take my daughter--and we might just do that one day.

I hope you have a great weekend, Greg. I am slowly getting back into blogging and hopefully will be reading more now that things have calmed down some.

    1. The Venetian festival is fun. And I love Dark Matter! I'm liking this season a lot.

We used to have a drive-in in my hometown and it was so fun to go. There's another one up north but I haven't been yet.

  3. It sounds like you had a great week, Greg! I can't believe August has started, either... where did all those long, lazy weeks go?
Have a fantastic week ahead and happy reading.

  5. Sounds like a great week!! Glad it is a good reading summer for you. Mine has been awful! What Happened to Monday looks really good. Kind of Orphan Black vibes with the same actress paying a bunch of roles though right? Hope you have a great week!

  6. My goodness - to find books from back in the day with $.40 on the cover would be so neat. I've been hooked on Salvation lately. Yes, I can believe it's August because it's my birthday month(lol), I just need the heat to be removed. Love, love love retro diners and drive-ins. Though the last drive-in I attended, I fell asleep, and they had to kick me off the lot because they wanted to go home. Yep, I was the only car there. (lol) Hugs...

I love those retro diners and similar places. Ha ha that's a funny story. :)

  9. Sounds like August is off to a good start for you Greg! Where did July go? I swear it has flown by!

This is the first I've heard of What Happened to Monday, but I'm so interested! Is it a book you read by chance? I think it's one I'd like to read before watching, if it is a book!

    Have a great week!

    1. July disappeared. And it's not even remotely fair... and as far as I know it's NOT a book, just a Netflix original- I think??

  11. Saugatuck looks pretty awesome, and I love outdoor festivals. That is probably what I miss the most with my daughter so far away, I have nobody to go to festivals with me (it was our summer thing).

    1. The Venetian festival is basically an artsy thing, with lighted boats (it's a harbor town) and fireworks and all that. Saugatuck's pretty artsy. It's an excuse to party.

I think What Happened to Monday looks great too!

  13. Sigh, so A Map for Wrecked Girls IS prettier on the outside, eh? And seriously, how is it already August!? Didn't summer JUST start? I swear, each one goes by faster than the last. The Venetian festival still sounds SO fun. Glad there will be more On the Run- and more than one, yay!

What Happened to Monday looks quite good, I will have to add it to my list of crap to watch. And that mansplaining thing was TOO funny hahah.

    1. You know, A Map for wrecked Girls is fine, it's not a bad book, it just didn't blow me away. I've been reading so many phenomenal books and it just fell into the 3 star category for me. My review will be this week but basically I think it just took too long to get to the secret reveal. But I did like the characters.

Thank you! More On the Run tomorrow. :) And what Happened to Monday- no doubt, now I have ANOTHER show to watch!!!

  21. Omgawd, that mansplaining thing is hilarious. I get that done to me in the Dean Owner's Association Facebook group all the time. I don't even bother to go over to the forums on the website. I should have chosen a gender neutral username. Ha ha. XD

Our temps dropped big time last night. I am freezing right now. Last Sunday when I was talking about the balloon rally I should have said next weekend. It is this weekend. I didn't like any of the bands that were playing the outdoor concerts, so we were just going to city bus it and walk in for a $5 admission on Friday, but it rained like a monsoon, so we scrapped that idea. My babysitting schedule and my son's work and video game night with his buddies all conflicted after that. There's always next year. :)

I have never been to a boat festival. I bet I would love it though because I love lights on the water and I love boats!

I caught up with my comment vomiting on your blog. Ha ha. I thought I was going to be able to start keeping current last week, but it didn't happen. Hopefully this week I can keep up with what I call my "core bloggers";fingers crossed.

I am caught up with On the Run and am excited there is more coming! Have a fantastic week. :)

We had the same on Friday. the whole day was like 20 degrees cooler, it felt COLD. The lighted boat festival is good fun.

And ha I like your comment vomiting!

  30. The Venetian Festival sounds like fun! I'm enjoying the milder weather -- I mean, it's still summery, but I'll take low 80s and medium humidity over high 90s and high humidity, hands down.

I'll have to pop by again later to watch the birth of mansplaining video. I gave myself 30 minutes to visit blogs, and I'm already past that -- but I'm glad I stopped by! Have a great week.

  36. The Venetian festival sounds like a lot of fun. We have festivals here but it's too hot to stay outside to really enjoy them. It's great you've gotten a lot of reading and watching tv. Even though the kids are off I didn't get as much time for either. Work is just draining me lol. I hope you have another great week!

  48. I LOVE DRIVE-INS yesssss. There is one by my cottage off of Lake Huron that is government funded and it's the best. There's even a tiny little concessions stand and THEY FRACKEN SELL FULL SIZE OUT OF THE BARREL DILL PICKLES (among other things, of course) and fracken soft pretzels and ugh now I miss it. I haven't been there since last summer, and it's one of my favorite places to go and holds so many memories including seeing all of the Narnia movies there.
For ONLY EIGHT DOLLARS you get to watch the two movies they're playing that night. It's so fantastic.

    1. Wow, sounds awesome! Is that by Tawas? Just curious- I grew up on that side but live on the west side now. There's a drive-in (I think it's still there) up by traverse in one of those small towns, but I haven't been there... those pickles rock, and how cool to see the Narnia movies on the big screen like that!

We had a drive in in my homtown before it went out and it was so cool going there. The concession stand was half of the fun.
