Top Ten Characters I'd Name X After

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a new Top Ten list will be posted. Everyone is welcome to join. Link back to The Broke and the Bookish so everyone can check out other bloggers' lists. It's a fun way to get to know fellow bloggers.

This week's topic is Top Ten Characters I'd Name A Child/ Dog/ Cat/ Car Etc After. This one's kinda wild, I've seen people name their kids after Game of Thrones characters for example, and pets too. So I had to think about this a bit. I decided to go with names that could be used that way, but also just names that I like from books or whatever.

Arya is one I've seen done before- mainly with kids and cats. Something about Arya from the books inspires a lot of loyalty or care from readers- probably because she goes through so much but still remains, always, a Stark.

Daenerys is another one I've heard used for kids. I don't really get this one as it's too out there but hey to each their own.

Katniss? I'm not sure I've seen it used but as popular as The Hunger Games is, it wouldn't surprise if someone has done it.

Zelda maybe?

Or Rogue.

Smaug might be a cool name for the right cat.

  1. Please tell me you're naming cats, not kids, Buttercup lol. There's probably at least one child out there for every popular character though, no matter how weird the name. I feel like it's just a thing now to name your kids with the strangest thing you can think of. Arya is pretty though. I haven't seen the show, but it just sounds like a pretty name.

    1. What, Buttercup's not a good kid name? :) Yeah I guess not. But for a cat- how awesome is that? My list is a little more applicable to animals I think lol. It would have to be the right cat too...

      Yeah I like Arya.

  2. I have known a cat that could have carried off being called Smaug, but instead was named Cain - for a good reason.

  3. Zelda is so awesome, and I would totally name a pet that. Bella is a good one on the aspect that it's more of a common name, and Ponyboy would be a fun nickname! :)

  4. I really like Arya, both the name and the character :) Daenerys and Katniss are both really nice names, but I'm not sure I would name a kid that ;)

    1. Same here. Great character, and the name's not bad! And no I wouldn't use those for kids names but they are very different!

  5. Buttercup totally cracked me up! Your list is great. I would have never thought about Zelda.

  6. Poor Buttercup. That is the perfect name for a cat, not a princess! I know of several dogs named Bella. These are all great!

    1. I agree! I can totally see a cat named Buttercut. although it'd have to be the right cat... :)

  7. Smaug would be great for a cat, haha.

  8. Much as I love Daenerys that seems like one heck of a name to stick a child with! Would be good for a cat though! And Arya is such a pretty name, and she is such a strong character!

  9. I know that for a long time, Bella was one of the top female dog names. The character drove me crazy so I can't imagine doing that to my dog. I think Smaug is an AWESOME cat name. And I bet you are right, I'm sure there are some kids out there named Katniss.

    1. Was it? I didn't know that! I never saw Twilight (or read) so I don't know, but I've heard... things. ha ha! And smaug is a great cat name, especially for a cat with attitude!

  10. I Arya and it's definitely one of the tamer options to name a child from GoT. I don't know anyone personally that's named a kid Katniss, but I have seen it make a couple of baby name lists.

    1. I agree. there aren't many GoT names that would work but Arya might. And I'm not surprised KAtniss has made some lists, it's so popular.

  11. Smaug is a great name for a cat! I did have a cat named Bella that I named after Bella from Twilight, but she was also kinda named after Bellatrix from HP as well. Depending on if she was being naughty or not. LOL!!

    1. I think so too. You had a cat named Bella? That's cool! I actually that name a lot.

  12. Arya is a great character to name a kid or pet after. You're right that she inspires loyalty in readers. I love her character so much and my favorite thing about her is that through thick and thin she never forgets who she is.

I'm cracking up with Kristen though, please tell me you're naming a cat Buttercup!

  15. I was so close to naming my cat Katniss, but nobody understood it (this was before the movies), so I went with something else. I would totally approve of a pet being names Ponyboy, but I think Sodapop may be ever better. Great list!

    1. Oh Sodapop- that's even better! Why didn't I think of that? Been too long since I saw that film...

  16. Some great choices on your list! I almost put Arya on my as well but went with Sansa at the last minute. I think Zelda is my favorite choice. I could see that being a great name for either a dog or a cat.

    1. Thank you! Sansa's good. And Zelda- I think it could be a good pet name too!

  19. I LOVE the idea of naming a cat Smaug, though you are right, it would have to be a very special cat:). Also, Arya is definitely my fave character from ASOIAF and I'd totally name any number of things after her. She does inspire the love!

    1. Yes it would. :) And Arya is a great name.

  21. A friend of mine named his son after a SoIaF character, Benjen Stark. Which is a pretty safe one as far as names from that series goes :) You never know if GRRM or the TV show writers might kill any of them off in the worst way possible, or suddenly turn them into hated villains.

  22. Bella is always safe choice. I like Katniss for a pet!

  23. I thought Katniss was nice for a kitten!

And Smaug is a great suggestion if someone adopts an adult male cat, if the personality suits.

We actually had a dog we adopted who came with the name Bella, and I wish we'd kept it but the kids wanted to change it (before the book/movie).

  24. I need a Smaug cat XD Probably would be dangerous to name it that, though, in case it truly becomes a little dragon.

  25. Arya is definitely my favourite from your list. It actually is a very pretty name!

  26. Oh yay, Buttercup! I have to watch the movie again :)
I think I want to name one of my chickens Zelda now :D 2 don't have a name yet

  27. I am absolutely certain that there is a little girl named Katniss somewhere. Great name, but probably going to be a little embarrassing by the time they reach middle school.

  28. I was reading a name popularity articlke a couple of years ago and Katniss had a small surge after the first movie came out. I cannot remember the number, but I thinkit was over 100 (this was US births). Ha ha. I will name pets weird things, but I'm with you, not kids. :)

  29. So many people named their kids Bella after the Twilight craze. One of my previous co-workers had her kid in the hey-day of the Twilight series and actually named in Edward Jacob.

Daenerys would be a tough one for a kid to have. I love the name Zelda. It always reminds me of Zelda Fitzgerald though.

  30. LOVE the idea of naming cats Katniss, Smaug and Buttercup!! Especially Katniss and Smaug though. Katniss has the 'Kat' in there and you could switch it to Catnip like Gale did LOL! And Smaug for a fiery, boss kitty would be awesome :D

  31. Love Katniss as a name, though as someone else mentioned on my Top 10 Tuesday from last week, I don't think I'd actually use the name for a daughter. But I would Bella! For no reason other than it's pretty. :)

Thanks for visiting Finding Wonderland, Greg.

  32. Aw Buttercup! What a great name for a cat! I'm not so sure about a kid. I did use a name from a book for my kid - one of my son's middle names (he has two) is Atticus. :) And Ponyboy! Lol. My childhood heartthrob right there.

    1. My brother had wanted to name his daughter Eddard if she was a boy, and call him Ned. His wife did not agree to this plan, but that his was what he wanted.
