Do you ever search for books? I was looking through old discussion posts this week and came across this. It's a story I've told before. So years ago as a kid we were on a trip to Florida and I saw a book called Urshurak in the Tampa airport gift shop. It was a big trade paperback book, written and illustrated by the Hildebrandt brothers (famous for their Tolkien and Star Wars images). Urshurak was an ambitious project, intended to also be a film, but that never happened and to be honest it wasn't a very good book- in fact, saying it's awful might be kind? But that's not the point- the point is it was a big lush fantasy and as a kid I was swimming in those! However, for whatever reason I lost the book- I'm not sure what happened to it. 

Fast forward maybe ten years and I'm in college, and seeing a girl I would date for six years. We were in a used bookstore in Midland MI and I was, among other things, looking for Urshurak. As I did in every used bookstore I came across. For nostalgia value mainly- I already knew the book hadn't aged well, but I was a Hildebrandt fan and wanted a copy. I didn't expect to find it that day. Imagine my surprise when she said- is this it?

    OMG..that was not the band I found to those lyrics..but it was a really cool band. Dang, I couldn't find it in my history either..OH WELL..maybe I find it one day. But they are really goth punk cool! (⓿_⓿)

    OH..about essential oil blends..I have a mid-evil one I mix with avacado oil and it keeps the mosquitoes away! Hope your September is filled with lots of fun and adventure....maybe you'll see that girl you used to date at the bookstore too. It's always been a dream of mine that I would meet one of my favorite music artists in a bookstore. The time I dreamed I met the lead singer of REM he wouldn't say anything to me, even if he was right next to me. Yeah, that's the general story of my life (✿◡‿◡)

      The medieval mix I have is from Aura Cacia and originally a diffuser oil, but a few drops can be added to your oil of choice like coconut, almond..etc. It is a PURFYING mix which has orange, lemon, lavender, thyme, eucalyptus, rosemary and tea tree oil. There are a lot of expensive essential oils out there, but usually I have better luck at HyVee, lately than at Natural Grocers.

    Yes, from time to time. I looked for some books that I read at Airport store etc. Sometimes, I prefer a local book from my own city which is pretty rare in this country.

    That's a lovely story! I really want to find more copies of The Chocolate Box Girls series. It's a middle grade book I remember loving but since it's from the UK it's sooo hard to now come by in Canada!

    How cool that she found the long lost book! I do search for books, but it's mainly the case of me reading something in the past, then years later wondering what the title or author was. Two come to mind: One was a SciFi book I was assigned in college (early 1990s) that talked about the world wide web. I finally figured out it was called Earth. The other is a fantasy novel about four women who represented the four seasons. I'm still puzzled about that one!

    I had something similar happen. Many years ago I read From the Corner of His Eye by Dean Koontz. I gave the book to my sister, I think, telling her she could keep it. A few years later, I wanted to read it again. I didn't feel I could ask my sister for it back, even if she still had it, and the library no longer had it. Fast forward again to a few weeks ago, and I took Spawn to one of the big secondhand stores for a browse. What do I see? A hardback copy, for $6.00. Reader, I bought the book.

    I think these days it's much easier to find these copies you are looking for but yes sometimes I look for a special book!

    That's cool about finding the book! I love when stuff like that happens, when it was meant to be. I can't think of a time that I was searching for a book, but I've found a few gems in used book shops and library book sales too. Like when I found a first edition hardcover copy of Christine by S.K. at a used book shop. Enjoy your week!

    That's a fun story about your lost book. I've searched for old books a couple of times but usually on Ebay or even Amazon. It's so satisfying when you find it!

    I haven't done that with books, but I have done it with a video game. It was super obscure but I was totally HOOKED on this game. Years later in college I wanted to play it and it just disappeared. It was called D (which makes it super difficult to try and find). I'm still looking for it.

    There are some titles I always look for among secondhand books, mainly to complete collections though, like the Ed McBains Precinct series.

    A lovely story about hunting down a book you were missing:). In the early noughties, I tracked down some Neville Shute novels for my mother, who suddenly wanted copies. Fortunately, I managed to find a number in a marvellous secondhand bookshop in Brighton that is now long gone. Have a great week, Greg.

    I do like to search for books on my list on the rare occasion I'm in a bookstore. So much more fun than simply ordering from Amazon.

    I'm glad your girlfriend at the time spotted Urshurak on the shelf!

    Cool story about finding the book. I am always looking for books I remember from long ago. My husbands searching through our shelves right now for one he is sure we kept. It's one of Jimmy Buffett's books, and since he just passed I wanted to read it again.

    That's cool. I used to go to used book shops and Half Price books and get all kinds of things. Mostly I got children's books for my daughter and cookbooks or crafting books which I wanted the print versions. Pretty soon I am all digital. I have done online searches for old cookbooks I really wanted which are no longer in print.

    I had a book like that, but the reason I couldn't find it was because I thought it was written by Stephen King. It was Clive Barker novel, though. As for the song of the week, Rock Me is nice. I haven't heard it before, so thanks for mentioning it! :-)

    Long ago I ran across a list called One Book in which each person was asked to name a favorite book. For many years, I looked for obscure books from that list. I was unable to find many of them.

    While it isn't a strong need, there is a book I read in 7th or 8th grade at a Catholic school long closed that I wouldn't mind finding again. It's hard when I don't know the title or author and just have a vivid memory of one scene. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    There is a book I read in middle school that I loved and still think about today. However in 8th grade my parents made me get rid of all my "romance" books. Now that included my Sweet Valley High series books, and then Harlequin had a teen series too, and that is what the book was a part of. I've tried looking it up, but can't figure out what it's title was and can't remember enough other than a few parts of it to search it out. So I get that for sure!

    I had a children's book about a Dutch cat who was a sailor. It was my favorite beginner chapter book. I did find a copy, locally, but it was very pricey. I think it was $50+ and it doesn't have the same cover as mine had, so for now it's a no for me and I am going to keep looking. 📘

    I don't really but I've started getting into vintage cookbooks for some weird reason. So I look for early editions of popular ones or ones that have inscriptions that say something about the gifter of the book or owner.

    Yes, I do look for books if the mood strikes. A few years back, I logged on to eBay to buy several books which I read during my teenage days. They're out of print; and you can imagine how some sellers mark up the price for those old books, tattered covers and all, but it's the nostalgia that counts, I suppose, lol.

    I wonder if you bought the copy and still have it? That's a great story! I wish I would've kept some of the books I read as a middle grader, or at least noted the titles. There's one that I remember liking and I have no idea what it was called so I couldn't search for it if I tried.
