This week is Top Ten Books That Are Outside My Comfort Zone. Hmm... fun topic. Like many bloggers I think my horizons were expanded by all the books out there that I otherwise never would have tried, not to mention all the great book recs. So here's ten books off the top of my head that I'm so glad I tried!
Big Little Lies - love this book. I knew from the first few pages I would... plus Madeline. :)
The Country Club Murders
Aldebaran by Leo- not really outside my comfort zone as much as just giving these a try. Once I took the plunge I devoured the whole series.
The Survivors - same here. Another series by Leo and probably my favorite.
I need to finish these
Polaris Rising - I wasn't sure if I would like this as it was billed as a sci- fi romance (heavy on the romance, or at least that's how I took it)- not that there's anything wrong with romance, of course- but I ended up loving it.
The Jetsons comic- this was awesome and the art was fabulous.
Mermaid Project - another Eurocomic series I ended up loving.
The Robe - I don't review a lot of religious fiction but this book, I thought, was amazing.
I kinda took a chance on this one - Alex and Ada - a while back and loved it. Wow this is turning into a mostly graphic novels post huh?
Aside from your first pick, I don't think I've heard of any of these! Glad you enjoyed them; it's always cool to find a read your not sure about, and be pleasantly surprised. Makes the risk worth it. :)

Many readers rave about Big Little Lies. I have to see what all the talk's about. Interesting list!

Nancy Drew! Liane Moriarty is an author I have not tried yet -- I don't know if it's the hype around her or what, but I am afraid I might not like the books.

ReplyDeleteHaha you would think that graphic novels were outside your comfort zone, the way you highlight them today. I love it when you know a book is going to be amazing on the first page or two.

I would say that they're usually outside my comfort zone but it's more like I don't really read them often so I find I never know where to start reading them 😅 Alex + Ada looks really good though (and exactly the kind of graphics I'd like) so will defo check it out. I need to try Big Little Lies! I think I've seen a bit of the film of the Robe and it did grab me. I always quite fancied reading Ben Hur which seems like a similar sort of thing?

ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these 😂 😂 I am really really bad about reading out of my comfort zone and I don't really care because there are more books in my comfort zone than I could ever read!
ReplyDeleteI didn't join in this week but I'd probably go for romance/sci fi/ and military sci fi - I've recently read books in all those (including Polaris Rising) and enjoyed them in fact The Lore of Prometheus has convinced me I must be missing out because of my stubborn refusal to read military sci-fi.

ReplyDeleteOh great choices. I loved Big Little Lies and the Country Club mysteries and anything Nancy Drew is always a favorite. It's fun when we find a hit that's a bit out of our comfort zone.

ReplyDeleteThis reminded me that I NEED to read Polaris Rising asap! Also I am glad that you took a chance on Alex + Ada because it led to ME reading them and I loved them so much! I also want to read so many of these Eurocomics (again, because you took a chance on them!) so it's kind of fun to see how one person reading outside their comfort zones leads even MORE people to do so (at least in the blogosphere!)

I am always happy when graphic novels make the list! I will need to add some of these books to my list, especially The Country Club Murders which looks like a lot of fun!
