Top Ten Authors I'd Like To Meet

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by
That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new Top Ten list will be posted. Everyone is welcome to join. Link back to The Broke and the Bookish so everyone can check out other bloggers' lists. It's a fun way to get to know fellow bloggers.

This week is Top Ten Authors I'd Like To Meet. To be honest, I don't have a lot- I mean I'm not big on autographs, although to sit and have a conversation with certain authors- absolutely. So this list was a little tough at first. I'm kinda tweaking it to reflect authors I've met as well as some I'd like to chat with. Cool? Let's go!

A Dance with Dragons (A Song of Ice and Fire, #5)

George RR Martin I met at a signing in Ann Arbor.

Big Little Lies

I'd commiserate with Liane about the way she skewers suburban life.

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (Wayfarers, #1)

Can we talk about the Wayfarer crew???

A School for Unusual Girls (Stranje House, #1)

Kathleen Baldwin was nice enough to send me an ARC of Refuge for Masterminds, the third book in the School for Unusual Girls series. She's super nice and posts interesting tidbits on Twitter as she researches her books.

Rogue Protocol (The Murderbot Diaries, #3)

I could talk Murderbot with Martha Wells, but also Emilie and the Hollow World.

City of the Lost (Rockton, #1)

I'd love to talk all things Rockton with Kelley Armstrong.

Sanctuary Bay

If I met Laura Burns and Melinda Metz I could bug them about returning to the Sanctuary Bay universe- I need that sequel!!

Replica (Replica, #1)

Lauren Oliver- I think Replica was underrated and I'd love to see more of Haven.

The Shark Club

Ann Kidd Taylor learned a lot about sharks during the course of writing her book, and I'd love to talk conservation.

Letters from Skye

I met Jessica Brockmole at a signing shortly after Letters from Skye was released- you can see my interview w/ her here

  1. There are lots of authors I think it'd be so cool to meet with and chat about their books over a cup of coffee. I think my list is pretty complete, but I've already thought of two names who should be on the list. Oh, well. Next time! :D

  6. Great choices! I love Kathleen Baldwin and her Stranje House series. I saw Martin once and was completely amazed how people mobbed him--he was like a rock star! LOL

  7. Lauren Oliver and Liane Moriarty are two I would love to meet too. They have written some of my favorite books. Great list!

  8. Oh I'd love to meet Laura and Melinda!! But eek! There NEEDS to be a sequel for Sanctuary Bay!? I still need to read that one but I will lose my mind if there are too many things left unsaid that require a sequel!!

    Here's my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

    1. Right? Although I will say... Sanctuary Bay doesn't really end on a cliffhanger (although you can argue it sorta does) but more along the lines of... it could definitely continue. I mean the main story is told, and I feel like they think it's done, but I could use more!

  9. Great minds. We both had LM on our lists. Her book is coming out in November, so I wonder if she will tour? Hmmmm. I met Oliver. She is a really interesting person.

    1. I bet! And yeah if LM toured I would try to attend, for sure.

  10. A couple of years ago Kelly Armstrong came to Australia (and I am still in shock about that) and she is such a gem!

  11. Oh gawd yes, Becky Chambers! She said she's not done writing books in that world, so maybe we could convince her to write another book set on the Wayfarer. Ha ha. 📚

  12. My list is way too long, and I'm not sure I can narrow it down to just 10, but this post is a great idea to think about authors we love and want to hang out with. Hugs...RO

  13. I don't really know who I would want to actually met although I like when I see the groups where the author is reading from the new book and giving interesting not known tidbits

  14. Yes, George R.R. Martin would be a cool person to meet.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

  15. I'd love to talk to Liane about the same thing!!! Great idea! Also, Lauren Oliver is amazing. I would love to meet her again-- and like, actually get to talk to her.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah I think Liane would be super down to earth? And yes the way she makes me laugh about suburban foibles- that might be my fave thing about her stuff!

  18. Did you get a book signed by Martin? I have a GoT book signed by him but I bought it that way. I have met Lauren Oliver twice. She is such a lovely person. If you get the chance, go see her.

    1. I did not. His line was super long and I'm not big on autographs- he did a reading and a Q&A which was fun and super interesting.

      Delete
  19. Kelley Armstrong would be great. I think a lot of people would like to meet Martin so they could find out if he ever plans on finishing the series. I don't have a lot of hope for that.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I have the same fear... I heard he turned 70 recently and yeah... the odds are getting long?

  20. George RR Martin is a good choice.

I'm probably the same way with you about autographs. I have some, and I'd go see authors, but I worked as a movie extra and I lived across the hallway from a couple of future NFL players in college (and my daughter used to be friends with a different NFL player's daughter) so celebrity to me isn't such a big deal. Maybe that's why I have absolutely no problems with tweeting with them online, LOL.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Ha ha that's interesting! Yeah I'm not really wowed by celebrity- I mean they're just people, right?- but I do love a good reading or Q&A session.

  21. I've met quite a few authors at signings and had lunch with a few too. My favorite thing was going to lunch and then taking a driving tour of all the places from my favorite series with the author.

    1. Really? That would be super cool. and having lunch would be nice, give you so much more of a one-on-one (or small group whatever) and a chance to really talk.

  22. some great things and authors to discuss about!

  23. Great Choices!! If you could actually sit down and talk to George RR Martin would you ask him if he is ever actually going to finish the Game of Thrones Books? I am losing faith haha.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks! And no I'm not sure I would, because I've heard he gets a little salty at that! Haha but I might find an oblique way to ask!

  24. I’m seeing Moriarty on everyone’s list! She needs to come see us all already!

  25. I'd LOVE to meet Kelley Armstrong! I've been reading her books for almost a decade now and my little preteen heart would be so happy! I'd also maybe kinda love to talk her ear off about the possibility of continuing her Darkest Powers & Darkness Rising trilogies :)

    1. See I've only read her Rockton (City of the Lost) series and Missing, but I want to try her paranormal stuff! Di you recommend thos series as a good place to start w/ her supernatural stuff?

  26. I love Lauren Oliver's writing! I haven't read anything of hers I didn't think was underrated tbh, even if I liked some books more than others. She was also really nice and skyped with my high school book club some years ago!!

  30. George R.R. Martin and Liane Moriarty made my list this week too!

  31. These are some great choices. Kathleen Baldwin really would be a wonderful person to meet!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Good choices, and I enjoyed seeing why you want to meet them! I love going to author events, in part because I find it so fascinating to hear about their writing process (and everyone's is so different.) I included authors I have met as well as authors I'd like to meet on my list, too.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think George R.R. Martin is on a lot of lists today! Our wedding photographers actually photographed a wedding last year that he officiated - I think the groom was his nephew. So they got to meet him and take pics!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I hope you get an opportunity to meet these authors at some point!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I bet George RR Martin is FUN in person! I've met Lauren Oliver, and she is super smart and sweet. I hope you get to meet ALL these authors!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I would LOVE to meet Lauren Oliver- she's actually one of the few "must-meet" authors I haven't met yet. I still think it's incredible that you met George RR Martin! Suzanne Collins would probably be a famous one I'd like to meet. I am like you though- I don't really *need* to meet very many, and some of my musts have already been crossed off. Also, it is so awkward if you haven't read their books yet- what do you even say, right?

  37. I met GRRM one year at Balticon. It was funny, because he was the guest of honor that year, and I was really anxious about getting a ticket for the signing so I could meet him, so I rushed into the hotel conventional hall to get registered. I exit the elevator, turn the corner, and boom, there he was, just milling around the hall all by himself, chatting with random folks that walked by. I went up to him and said hi, and he gave me a hug and let me take a selfie with him. Nice guy!

  39. I love Lauren oliver, i would love to meet her!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh I would love to have a chat with Liane Moriarty! Honestly I'd be happy to sit with all the authors on your list just so they could tell me everything about their writing process!

    ReplyDelete
  41. How cool that you've met George R.R. Martin! I know a lot of people that would LOVE to meet him!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I like what you did to this week's topic, Greg. :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I would love to meet Kathleen Baldwin as well. She's so lovely to talk to and her book was so good to read too! Can't wait to read the rest of the series. I would also love to discuss with George R R Martin to ask about how he deals with the social media pressure and also how he makes such a vast world in his mind!
