Top Ten Books I Meant To read in 2017 But Didn't (And Will in 2018???)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a new Top Ten list will be posted. Everyone is welcome to join. Link back to The Broke and the Bookish so everyone can check out other bloggers' lists. It's a fun way to get to know fellow bloggers.

This week we are looking at the books we meant to read in 2017, but alas, never got to. And will read in 2018? *crickets* Seriously though- yeah- I have some I didn't get to, and here they are!

The Wood
Bad Girls with Perfect Faces

Maybe in Paris

The Valiant (The Valiant, #1)

Gone Girl

The River at Night

  2. Glad to see I'm not the only one who had a bunch of books I planned to read in 2017 but didn't and who feels like I will probably still not even get to half of them in 2018 lol. Love the cover of that last one!

    1. Oh my gosh I have a ton. Although I did strike some off, do you ever do that? Want a book so bad and then later- meh?

      I love that cover too!!

  3. I'm curious what you'll think about "Gone Girl". I read it a few years ago and enjoyed it but in my opinion it didn't quite live up to the hype – but maybe that was just because I got really annoyed by the two protagonists which I both hated XD But the story is definitely thrilling and I also liked the movie version! :)

    1. I am really curious about Gone Girl too. I'm not sure if the hype will ruin it slightly for me, but I'm willing to give it a shot. I do want to see the movie too!

  7. I loved Bad Girls. It was dark and twisted and not my normal read, but I couldn't stop reading. I have been wanting to read more from Flynn, because I liked Gone Girl so much. Again, not my normal type of read, but I was compelled to keep flipping the pages.

  8. I've heard such awesome things about The Runaways. I rarely go for graphic novels but the raves for that one has me thinking I'm missing out.

  9. Great list! The Valiant looks like so much fun. Gone Girl is the only Gillian Flynn novel I haven't read yet so maybe I should try getting to that one myself this year. I hope you manage to get to all of these in 2018!

    1. I think The Valiant does look fun! And The Defiant looks awesome, which makes me want to read it even more. Gone Girl I so need to read too!

  10. I loved the movie Gone Girl, but to my shame I have not picked up the book. From what I`ve gathered on Goodreads Maybe in Paris is quite offensive with the representation of mental illness, so I`m curious to see your opinions.

  12. I wish I could say I didn't have a list like this one but I always do. Sort of embarrassing but what are you going to do right? So many great books out there that need our attention. ;)

  13. Man, I'm seeing everyone's lists this week and realizing how many good books I didn't read, even though I read over 100 things last year. Some of these authors just need to slow down!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Gone Girl was so twisty and good! And I really want to read The Wood, it looks scary😁 Here's hoping we both knock off some of last year's books this year!

  20. Gone Girl is the only one I have read on your list. I really want to check out The Valiant. I always have such good intentions to read more than I actually do... There are just too many tempting books! I hope these are all great for you when you get to them, Greg.

  22. Hi! I was not a fan of Gone Girl, well, maybe it's that the movie ruined it for me :) I want to get to Maybe in Paris!

    But i wonder about Valiant

  25. Yay! We’re all behind! Ha ha! Good luck!

  26. See, it is posts like this that contribute to me not reading the books I hoped to in 2017. I just added a couple more to the list. The River at Night was very good. I listened on audio.

  27. Good luck :-) I've only read Gone Girl from your list and totally loved it!

  29. The Wood and Fragments of the Lost are also on my list for 2018. I read Gone Girl a while ago...it was good but not as amazing as the hype led me to believe.

  30. I enjoyed Gone Girl which has inspired oh-so-many copycats. It was fresh to me back then. I don't know how I'd feel about it if I read it now. I hope you enjoy it when you get to it ;)

  31. I've been wanting to read Gone Girl! I also added The Girls With The Perfect Faces to my TBR, the synopsis sounds so good. The Runaways is another one I want to read soon and Valiant is another one I want to read! Ah such a great list.

  34. I really liked The Valiant, I hope you do too. It's very action-packed.

  35. A friend sent me Bad Girls with Perfect Faces last year so that's on my list as well.

  36. The Valiant is on my TBR as well! And Gone Girl, but I'm accidentally already spoiled about the ending so I'm actually not sure whether I still want to read it now or not :)

  41. I wonder what you’ll think of Gone Girl when you read it. I remember being so wowed by it but I read it soon after it came out before it and unreliable narrators were everywhere. Fragments of the Lost looks really good as does Sister Sister. Good luck getting to some of these in 2018!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Wow, the only one of those I've even heard of is Gone Girl... which I suppose I ought to read, though I've come so close to being spoiled for it that it may have lost its punch for me. I hope you get to read at least some of these in 2018!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh Gone Girl. I've been told time and again that I would love it. Maybe it is one I need to think about some more.

    ReplyDelete
  44. ::Throws The Valiant at you:: Seriously. Do it. I liked The Wood too, very atmospheric! Fragments of the Lost is one I definitely want to read too. Oooh I just looked up The River at Night, that looks really good too! Hope you do get around to these at some point- especially The Valiant, of course :D

  45. The Valiant is one that I need to read for sure! And The Wood is one that I heard about, but didn't get to. Great list! Thanks for stopping by my top 10 on Lisa Loves Literature earlier.

  46. I'd hoped to FINALLY read Gone Girl last year, but it just didn't happen, lol. I think I need to add it my 2018 TBR so I can finally watch the movie, too. Hope you get to read all of the books on your list- they look awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I loved The Valiant so I hope you enjoy it (some day lol). Gone Girl is also a book on my TBR that seems like has been there forever. I hope we both finally get to books we've been meaning to read. Happy New Year Greg!

  48. I hope you read Gone Girl! I'd love to hear your thoughts on that one. I think you will love it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Of the books listed, I've only read Gone Girl. I liked it a lot, but I've liked all of Gillian Flynn's novels. Her writing style and stories just work for me.

The first two books I'd read based on the cover art alone. I'm definitely going to look up more information on those!

I knew of two Megan Miranda novels (they're actually both on my "To Read" list), but I wasn't aware of this one. I'm adding it!

  50. If I had had more than 10 slots, The Wood would probably have been on my list too. I'm also happy to see The Valiant on here. I just finished the sequel and I thought it was even better than the first book, so if you do start the series this year you're in for a ton of fun :D

  52. I forgot about Fragments of the Lost but had another Megan Miranda book on my list this week, The Perfect Stranger. I hope to get to both books this year.

  53. Bad Girls With Perfect Faces and The Valiant both look like really good books.

  54. I have only heard of and read Gone Girl. I enjoyed it very much. The movie was very faithful to the book. One of my favorites.

  55. Some new to me titles here - love the cover of The River at Night. I've read Gone Girl; I quite enjoyed that one.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I really wanted to read The Valiant too - I hope we'll both like it!

Thanks for visiting my blog earlier!

  57. I don't know why I never clicked with the Runaway series. Gone Girl was overrated (in my opinion).

    ReplyDelete
  58. Despite all of the hype for Gone Girl, I haven't been able to be interested in its premise. But I do hope you enjoy it - and I know there are LOTS of readers who found it to be a fabulous story. Happy 2018 TBR-ing, Greg - and thanks for the Finding Wonderland visit. :)

  59. These all look so good! Especially Bad Girls with Perfect Faces that I just now heard of while blog hopping. LOL! The Wood and The Valiant sound great as well. Oh, and I loved Gone Girl! I hope you will too when you get to it. :)

  60. Gone Girls is interesting. Has a twist that divides a lot of readers. Runaway comic seems interesting
