This week is Top Ten Authors I Tried in 2017. This will be a fun list because I tried a lot of new authors in '17 so I shouldn't have too much trouble with this one. Here we go!
Ann Kidd Taylor. Loved this book.
Merrie DeStefano. Another of my favorites.
Kate Ormand.
Alice Oseman.
Gillian French.
John Scalzi
Courtney Summers
Melissa Landers
Amanda Hocking
Marie Lu
Honorable mentions
Kendare Blake
Karen M. McManus
Jessica Treadway, Mur Lafferty, Jen Wilde, Michelle Krys, Patricia Briggs, Laura Silverman, Gerard Stembridge, Julie Eshbaugh, Jessica Taylor, Jessi Kirby, Abigail Haas, Mary Torjussen
Yay for Courtney Summers. This Is Not a Test was so good. McManus was new to me too. I reeeeaaally want to finally read one of Abigail Haas's book. Hope you discover many more awesome new authors in 2018, Greg!
ReplyDeleteI loved Courtney summers books that I've read. This Is Not A Test WAS awesome, I agree. And McManus too *nods*
DeleteGreat list.I've heard great things about Alice Oseman. I have on of her books on my e reader. I really need to get to it this year.
ReplyDeleteI loved Radio silence!
DeleteGreat list. I haven't read many of the books on this week's list but I know of a few of the authors you have included. I adored Queens of Geek as well and never got around to MacManus 's debut. I need to rectify that ASAP
ReplyDeleteOne Of Us Is Lying is great. I hope you enjoy it! And Queens of Geek was a lot of fun. :)
DeleteI tried lots of new authors last year too and have another pile ready to try this year!
ReplyDeleteYup- same here. :)
DeleteOh wow, you've read some really amazing authors in 2017! I love Courtney Summers. Such a great writer.
ReplyDeleteI've heard a lot of great things about Marie Lu. I also heard that One of Us Is Lying is going to be made into a movie or TV show this year. That'll be interesting!
ReplyDeleteOoh nice ones! I love Marie Lu's books! Need to read Kendare's latest too! Great picks!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
Marie Lu made my list as well. Can't wait to read more of her books in 2018. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat list! Kendare Blake and Patricia Briggs are both authors I'd like to check out.
ReplyDeleteYay for new to you authors :) I've only read a couple of these; Patricia Briggs - I love Moon Called, and Abigail Haas - unfortunately I hated Dangerous Girls, everyone I know that's read it gave it 5 stars though haha
ReplyDeleteI need to read Queens of Geek, One of Us Is Lying, and Radio Silence. I really loved Dangerous Girls and This Is Not a Test though!

ReplyDeleteI've heard good things about Radio Silence!
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thanks!
These are all new to me-- but they look good. Starfall looks interesting, I might check out the first book in that series!

Lots of great ones! I want to read Shark Club and One of Us is Lying.
ReplyDeleteWow, so many new authors. I haven't read any of these certainly but I definitely want to read some of these especially Marie Lu. Thanks for sharing!

I want to read the Three Dark Crowns series so bad. I am determined to fit it in this year. I also want to read Warcross. It looks so good!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you made some awesome discoveries in 2017!
I need to read some Scalzi!
ReplyDeleteJohn Scalzi is one that I still really need to check out! I seem to love everything he writes for the LA Times and on Twitter, but I've yet to pick up one of his book. Maybe I'll rectify that this year. It looks like you made some awesome author discoveries this year. I also read Amanda Hocking for the first time. Dead Girls Society and One of Us Is Lying are both ones that I would like to read still. Nice list!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to try Alice Oseman this year!

Warcross was phenomenal, in my opinion the best from Marie Lu so far.
ReplyDeleteI confess that I haven't readmany of them yet
ReplyDeleteI read Amanda Hoacking for the 1st time last year and forgot to add her to my TTT post!!
ReplyDeleteHere's my TTT post for this week: https://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2018/01/top-ten-tuesday-top-ten-new-to-me.html?showComment=1514915871093#c5665488240840941833
I have only read Starfall from those top 10--eh
ReplyDeleteThe cover of The Wanderers looks so interesting!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these but I really want to read Marie Lu, I've heard really great reviews about Warcross.
ReplyDeleteLove Marie Lu!! I haven't had a chance to read Warcross yet though. Did you enjoy it?
ReplyDeleteMy TTT: http://www.momwithareadingproblem.com/2018/01/ttt-129-new-authors-read-2017/
I really liked Warcross. :)
DeleteStill want to read Radio Silence. :/ Did you enjoy Courtney Summer's work? Love that book.
ReplyDeleteI loved This Is Not A Test!
DeleteYay for Scalzi! I look forward to reading more by him. I hope to get to Warcross this year. Great list, Greg!
ReplyDeleteIt was my first Scalzi. And Warcross is awesome!
DeleteThis Is Not a Test is one of my favorite zombie novels. It's so underrated. I need to get to Warcross sometime this year. Happy 2018!
ReplyDeleteYes I totally agree! Might be my favorite zombie book!
DeleteI'm not surprised to see The Shark Club here. I know how much you love that one. I really need to pull The Wanderers out as I am super curious about it after seeing it so much on your blog. Hope you're having a great New Year and that you're staying warm!
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan. :) And The Wanderers is a pretty good urban fantasy, but a definite YA flair.
DeleteAnd thanks!!
Marie Lu is tops for me. Legend is an all time favorite series of mine. I read a Gillian French book, it was pretty good, but I feel like Grit is the book to read. Courtney Summers is someone I want to check out. I have to put her on my short list this year.
ReplyDeleteI really liked This Is Not A Test by Courtney Summers.
DeleteI've read Warcross and One Of Us Is Lying. I really enjoyed both. I really loved Marie Lu's The Young Elites Series. If you haven't checked it out, you should!
ReplyDeleteTina @ As Told By Tina
Thanks! I've heard good things about that series.
DeleteI have Alienated by Melissa Landers sitting on my shelf and have yet to pick it up. I really want to make it a point to read her this year.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read most of these though I really want to read Marie Lu and I've heard all kinds of good things about John Scalzi. The Shark Club is on my TBR which I'm thinking is probably your doing. Great list!
ReplyDeleteYeah The Shark Club was probably me. :) It was really good.
DeleteOh, I really need to read a lot of these. Marie Lu in particular. I haven't tried any of hers yet. I did just finish Lost Girls last night, but it wasn't for me. :x
ReplyDeleteSorry you didn't like Lost Girls! I loved it maybe for the fight club aspects, and how badass she was? But it wasn't a perfect book that's for sure and I could see why someone wouldn't like it. And I tried Marie Lu just this year and Warcross was fab! :)
DeleteI'm reading Warcross right now! So good!
ReplyDeleteI've been on the fence about starting the new Kendare Blake series. I did love her Anna series.
ReplyDeleteThe Kendare Blake series is a lot of fun, I think you should try it. :)
DeleteI just bought Warcross and hope to read that soon. Briggs just keeps getting better and better. I really want to read a lot of the books you listed. I need more reading time.
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to read This Is Not a Test for years and I hope I'll finally be able to read it this year. And I got a copy of Warcross last month so hopefully I can read that one very soon :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, so glad you discovered Courtney Summers, Marie Lu (LOVED her Legend series so much), Kendare Blake (Anna Dressed in Blood was amazing, but I've loved her other books too), Melissa Landers and Abigail Haas (I also loved Dangerous Girls!!) this year! Here's to more awesome authors in 2018. <3
ReplyDelete- Aimee @ Aimee, Always
I'm glad I discovered Courtney as well, I loved that book! Kendare Blake is another one. Dangerous Girls was quite good as well!
DeleteWow, this is a great list! I don't think I actually read many new authors this year- at least, not many that weren't debuts. I do want to read a lot of these books though, even though the authors wouldn't be new to me- like This is Not a Test and Warcross! I also read Gillian French, Karen McManus, and Mur Lafferty for the first time this year! You know, come to think of it, I don't think I have read anything by Melissa Landers- I probably should, I have the first book!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I seemed to read a TON of new authors this year- I don't know what it was! This Is Not A Test is SO good. And I enjoyed the stuff I read from Gillian French and KAren McManus especially. Heck all of them really!
DeleteAlice Oseman is brilliant, and I really want to read Queens of Geek. I hope you find more great authors in 2018!
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I have read Marie Lu's Legend series and enjoyed it. Still need to read Warcross.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to go get Radio Silence RIGHT NOW. You post about it a lot and it makes me want to read it but then I forget. lol
ReplyDeleteFor What It's Worth
I really liked Radio Silence, hope you do too!
DeleteWarcross and Radio Silence are books I'm really hoping to get to in 2018! And to start the Kendare Blake books as well. Queens of Geek was so much fun :)
ReplyDeleteSuch an awesome list! I read Starflight by Melissa Landers and it was AMAZING! I was't a fan of Starfall, though.
ReplyDeleteAlso, glad you discovered Marie Lu! Her Legend series is really good!
Amanda Hocking and Mur Lafferty were new authors for me this year too. I'm looking forward to reading more of their work!
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
wow looks like you read lots of new authors in 2017. Some of these I knew and others I have now learned about :)
ReplyDeleteI just got Marie Lu's WARCROSS but I read her other series and enjoyed it. John Scalzi has been one of my favorite authors forever! I actually ran into him at O'Hare in late 2016. He was super nice.
ReplyDeleteCourtney Summers is criminally underrated! I'm so glad you liked her stuff. John Scalzi and Patricia Briggs are two of my long-time faves, but Melissa Landers was a new-to-me 2017 discovery too. I actually think your review of Starflight is what convinced me to pick it up!
ReplyDeleteYes I loved that book! And I'm glad my review steered you towards Starflight, I hope you liked it. Sadly the second one Starfall didn't work for me as much...
DeleteThis Is Not A test is one I am dying to read! It just sounds so good!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good list of new to you authors. I read Starflight this year, so that author also was a new to me one this year.
ReplyDeleteI read a lot of new authors in 2017 too, among them Warcross by Marie Lu which made it to my Best Reads list and wondered why I hadn't read her before??
ReplyDelete
