I hope everyone had a great New Year's and a good first week of the year. My week was quiet and nice although I didn't get a ton of reading in- I did however binge quite a bit of Netflix. It took me a few days to decide on a book but I finally settled on one. The Birthday Girl wasn't a bad read and although it started kinda slow it took off.

I'm finished with the first season of Longmire and just started S2. Am I addicted now to this show? It would appear yes.

Last week I reviewed Star Man's Son for Vintage SciFi Month, and this week will be another vintage book.

This is a killer remix of Heart of Glass- I heard this on The Handmaid's Tale

Here's a look at how Luke built a new Jedi order in the old canon- before Disney made changes. I don't know, I like the sound of this a lot better!

Spike the punch

I love this sequence- including the Emperor getting irked with Vader.

And this is just the Emperor at his best.

  2. I don't even know if I want to watch the new Star Wars movies. I don't understand why they felt they needed to change things. :/

Thanks for all the music links! I will be listening a bit later.

Quiet is good. I like quiet. Have a wonderful week. :)

  4. Hooray for starting the year with a quiet week. :) That Heart of Glass remix is wild. Such a totally different sound from the original. It's haunting. Love the graphic with the mermaids. Hope you have a great week, Greg!

  6. I love all these old Agatha Christie covers you're spotlighting! Very fun. We've been watching a lot of Netflix, too - almost done with Travelers!

    Happy New Year!

  8. Yay for Longmire!! At least you have several seasons to go before you get depressed with the rest of us. It's a binge-worthy show.

  10. Hooray for quiet weeks/weekends. I am not looking forward to going back to work on Monday!

  11. The last week here has been bitterly cold and son is still on winter break (Monday needs to get here). I've had a slow start to my reading year. Love the last pic, at first I thought it was HP's Hermione.

  12. I'm so mad because I was supposed to watch the Star Wars movie with my family, but we did not :( I did get in a ton of reading this first week of 2018 though!

  13. I love that song, I am listening to it again now hah. It's funny because you don't really think of Blondie and Handmaid's Tale going hand in hand, but alas, it works. What is Longmire exactly? I have heard of it, but never looked into it. How the hell do you watch so many shows?! I feel like you should give lessons or something.

The picture of the girl with the wine glass reminds me of like, if Cheryl Blossom was in a high fantasy, and I would read that. And are those mermaids like... android mermaids? Merdroids? Is merdroids a thing? I think it should be.

    1. I'm kind of obsessed with that song now? Thanks to YOU for turning me on to the Handmaid's Tale (it's all your fault) :):) seriously though I always liked Heart of Glass, so naturally the remix has me all ga-ga!

Longmire is a crime show set in Wyoming, it's on Netflix. Someone recommended it to me and I was like meh after the first episode, then I tried it again and schwing! I'm hooked. And I don't know except- I'm on Netflix WAY too much?

Cheryl Blossom! That's awesome. I think the mermaids are real (you know real being relative) but I like the sound of merdriods.

  14. I'm glad you had a nice week. Though you didn't read much, sometimes catching up on shows/doing other things is just what you need! I often have a hard time keeping up with multiple things - like I'll read too much instead of watching shows or writing, etc. lol

I haven’t heard about Longmire yet. I guess I’ll have to check it out. Here they now have all the seasons of Friends of Netflix. Since I’ve never seen them all I’ve been watching those. Great series!
Good to hear you had a nice and quiet week too.

  22. Sometimes you just have to sit back to relax for a while, then dig in to whatever plans you have for the New Year. I'm starting to believe that Netflix was created just for me because I found all kinds of new stuff to check out, and quite a few are food related(lol) I tried Longmire, but may have to get back to him. As always, I'm hoping that you're taking care of yourself and continuing to heal. Happy Sunday! Hugs...RO

  24. I'm just going to come right out and say it... I haven't see the latest Star Wars. Yup... can't make myself sit in the theater for 2.5 hours. I'm waiting for video. How lame am I? But on a better note, we purchased Blade Runner this week so there's that :) Why can't they just make shorter movies???? I have zero patience...

Have a great week, stay inside, read, and stay warm!!!

  25. I have binged on a bit of netflix here lately too. :) After the first new star wars and they killed off my favorite character, I have had no desire to try the others...lol. I was never a huge fan anyway and now there is no reason to watch them. :)

    Have a great week!

  26. My life is a string of quiet weeks and I like it like that. I feel so out of the loop, because the last Star Wars movie I saw featured the Jar Jar debacle. I obviously need to get out more. Your thoughts on The Birthday Girl remind me that sometimes I need to be patient with a book. It depends on my mood, but if the start is too slow, I have been known to DNF. Glad you were patient and it paid off for you.

  27. Glad you had a quiet week - the children had to go back to school on 4th - and were originally slated to go back on the 2ND, but they added two training days to delay it, which even so, seems too early to me! Thank you for a lovely pics, Greg, I particularly love the mermaids... Have a great week:)

  30. Quiet weeks are great. I spent a lot of my week on Netflix as well, watching movies that I never got to the theater to see. I haven't watched Longmire yet, but my hubby is obsessed with that show.

I haven't read that Agatha Christie book yet so I'll be curious to see what you think of it. I still have several of hers on my TBR.

    Have a great week, Greg!

  31. Happy New Year! I didn't get a whole lot of reading in during the first week of the year but it has been a good start to the year really. I hear you on binge watching Netflix, I've been watching Netflix own movies like Bright and and Little Evil. I've also begun a rewatch of Bones.

  33. I went to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi with my hubby and loved it. I realized that I had not seen the previous one of The Force Awakens so I watched that on Netflix. These two reminded me of the original movies and made me feel nostalgic. My 14-year-old son saw The Greatest Showman and can't stop raving about it.

  36. Longmire can be addictive. At least you can binge the whole show. I binged a show called Dark Lake on Shudder this week. It was a Swedish horror series and I really enjoyed it and would recommend it should to people who like atmospheric shows.

  42. I am glad you are enjoying Longmire. I have only seen the first couple episodes, but it didn't quite catch me in its spell, and I was distracted by other things and never got back to it. I love the books though, and definitely plan to jump back in the series soon.

We've watched a lot of Netflix this week as well--although mostly Disney movies my daughter's wanted to watch. Right now we are watching Descendants 2 (not on Netflix).I am glad you are enjoying The Birthday Girl.

    Have a great week, Greg!

  43. I got very little reading in but I always seem to have a slow start to the year. I should kick in this week. I hope :-)

We watched the first 4 epsisodes of Happy on SyFy and boy is that twisted.

  48. The best about Netflix is when you can binge right through a series and all seasons. I've binged through the second season of The Crown and now I have to wait though!

  49. I really feel the need for a series binge session soon. I've been binging anime, but it doesn't really feel the same as sitting down to blaze through actual live action tv shows (packed with drama, and some moderate to bad acting.) I hope you have an awesome week and enjoy your new reads!

  69. I like these fantasy art pieces in your post. It's because of all of you in this book community that I've opened up to fantasy and have become addicted. I also have a few sci-fi on my 2018 TBR and it makes me think of you and your love for it.
I have so many Netflix shows on My List. It's kind of hard for me to watch TV and knit at the same time because sometimes I have to concentrate although now that I have Harry Potter socks on the needles and it's vanilla knitting, that would be a good project in a Netflix pairing.
I appreciate your honesty about reading Agatha Christie. I will give Miss Marple another try but I'm not in a rush to right now. I think for First Book of the Year for 2019 I'll pick a fast paced read, like a thriller or a new-to-me fantasy.
I'm going to look up your Star Wars posts because I'm curious to see what you thought of The Last Jedi. We took the girls to see it after Christmas.
