Cover Characteristics is a meme by Sugar and Snark- every week a characteristic is selected and we post 5 books with that week's theme.
This week's pick- Islands
The rogue topics continue as Cover Characteristics is officially on hiatus. This week- islands. This one just came to me and I thought, why not?
I used to read Tin Tin when I was a kid. I barely remember anything about them now but I think I read this one. I loved Snowy! I was planning to join in with this when it returns but just discovered I can't comment on the mods blog page because they use DISQUS so I guess I'm not joining!
ReplyDeleteI TinTin as well- they were fun. Snowy is great!
DeleteYou could maybe still participate by linking up but just not commenting? That is when they come back.
I LIKE Vitro! That's an original cover -- but The Black Island, be still my nostalgic heart!
ReplyDeleteI know! Right? And the Vitro cover is one of my faves!
DeleteOh islands is a good theme!! I love the Agatha Christie, Ten and The Mysterious Island. One of my favorites is On the Island.
ReplyDeleteI like those too, especially Ten. I think I remember On The Island, and it is a pretty cover.
DeleteThis is a nice compilation of adventurous looking sea covers!
ReplyDeleteThanks!!
DeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE the cover for the Dr. Moreau book. So creepy yet so beautiful. Great choices this week and I still need to read Ten but am pretty sure I grabbed it for my Kindle some time ago. Have a great week Greg!
ReplyDeleteI do too! It is creepy... in a good way ha! Ten isn't bad it's kind of a YA slasher lol but it does atmosphere.
DeleteI love the cover for The Floating Islands too! It makes me think of the movie Castle in the Sky, which used to be one of my favourites.
ReplyDeleteI love that cover! Anything with floating islands gets my attention. and I don't know that movie, but I'll check it out.
DeleteI would LOVE to be in the cover of The Blue! the yacht and the clear water... ahhh.. But my favorite has to be The Floating Islands. I'm surprise you didn't go for that one too. It reminds me a lot of the illustrations you like to feature.
ReplyDeleteI would too. And yeah The Floating Islands is the best.
DeleteI've always liked the cover of Ten. It just looks so foreboding.
ReplyDeleteTanya @ Girl Plus Books
I agree! It's a great cover. :)
DeleteI like the FLoating Island and The Mysterious Island. There's something very clean and uncluttered about them.
ReplyDeleteThey're both nice. It's an interesting cover for Mysterious in that the book has so many covers- but I liked that one. :)
DeleteLove this topic! Obviously And Then There Were None is my favorite but I like Ten and The Mysterious Island too!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I like all three of those. :)
DeleteBoxcar Children! Loved those books when I was younger. Although I didn't like Ten, I do like the cover. Another island cover book is The Troop by Nick Cutter - I like that one.
ReplyDeleteI know! I kinda laughed when I picked it- but why not? Actually a pretty good illo...
DeleteWhen I saw the theme I also thought of the Gallery cover for The Troop by Nick Cutter. Nothing creepier than being stranded on a deserted island.
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
That is true... :)
DeleteGreat cover choices. The cover of The Floating Islands immediately made me think of the island of Laputa in Gulliver's travels, although I think that was considerably bigger.
ReplyDeleteLove love love that Christie cover.
ReplyDeleteIt is a nice one!
DeleteI really liked Ten and now I see it has a similar cover as And then their were none.
ReplyDeleteGreat picks! I love these covers! Vitro I have seen a few times and always thought that cover was great with all that white space.
I've always liked Vitro too. :)
DeleteOooh islands! Great choice! I love the cover of Ten- so ominous looking! And Vitro is a good one too. I really love the cover itself for The Floating Island, but the font... I want to help the font. Actually, they're all really nice- but I guess it is hard to go wrong with islands! Great picks!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it? I love the atmosphere of it. And you're right- now that you mention it that font DOES need help. A total makeover...it could be such a kickass cover with a little help. :)
DeleteVitro is a fave.
Islands was a good idea! I wonder if the official meme is ever coming back though? :-/ Not that it's so bad doing our own topics, but still.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I've always loved the covers for Ten and Vitro. Vitro especially is just so bright and eye-catching, but Ten is so creepy. The Floating Islands is cool too, and also a very aptly named book for that cover, haha.
Thanx! And you know I'm starting to wonder. In fact I've thought about retiring this meme but I keep thinking of topics I want to do lol. But yeah- at some point it might be time to stop? I don't know I keep thinking they might show up at some point...
DeleteI love Vitro! One of my favorite covers. Ten is creepy! And yeah something about the Floating Islands cover... and definitely a very literal title ha ha.
I wonder...do authors have a say in how their covers are going to turn out?
ReplyDeleteI don't think most authors do, that's more of a publishing decision... I think? Although I know some big name authors have a say ...
DeleteWOW!!! These are all AWESOME covers, Greg!! And I LOVE the predominance of the color blue!! This is my absolutely FAVORITE color!
ReplyDeleteI guess I never thought of how many covers feature islands. Featuring these land masses gives a cover an immediate sense of adventure, which I think would pull a reader in right away.
I've tried to pick out my favorite cover, out of all the ones you've posted, and I really can't. I LOVE them all!!
Thanks for sharing these!! Hope you're having a WONDERFUL day!! :) :) :)
I really like the cover for Vitro. I think its pretty unique.
ReplyDeleteSome of these covers are really unique and cool. I've not read any of them but did watch the recent adaptation of And Then There Were None. Spooky as it was, the production itself was really very good.
ReplyDeleteI love the cover of The Floating Island! I have a thing for floating islands. The Edge books, the Perfect Ruin books, and of course all te animes with floating islands :)
