Date Night on Union Station

Date Night on Union Station (EarthCent Ambassador #1)

Date Night on Union Station is a novella set on a space station sometime in the future. And don't judge this by the cover- the cover doesn't reflect the story at all, actually. It's a quick, breezy read with a surprising amount of depth and a lot of great humor. I actually laughed quite a bit and the best part- it's free on Amazon (as always check to make sure before clicking). I saw this on a blog somewhere and the premise seemed fun so I gave it a try.

Kelly is paid very poorly for her job and has trouble making rent- and the story follows her as she navigates a dating service membership she has won. The artificial intelligence that runs the station doesn't seem to be very good at coming up with matches and all kinds of fun things happen, both on and off the job. We also spend time with Joe  who used to be a mercenary but now lives on the station. He has the good fortune (?) to also utilize the station dating service, with interesting results.

It's funny and for the number of pages there's a lot of imagination here. I'm definitely interested in reading more about Kelly and Joe. There's a whole slew of sequels as well, all cheap on Amazon, and I'll be reading more of these. A lot of fun.

  1. You recommended this title to me, and I wasn't really sure if it was in my wheelhouse, but hey-- it's a freebie-- so I downloaded it.

If I read it, I'll share my feedback. Thanks for giving a suggestion when I was struggling this past week; I appreciate any and all folks share. That's what the book community is all about.

    1. The colors are bold and vivid is what I mean. Haha, sorry I didn't explain that well. :P

    2. I kinda like the cover, although I know a lot of reviews on Goodreads said it didn't really reflect the story, and I agree. It's a fun book though. :)

  3. This does sound fun and there was no way I would have picked it up based on the cover. I'll have to go get this one off of Amazon. I could use a funny space book.

    1. I wouldn't have either, to be honest. The cover just doesn't reflect the story, at least I don't think it does. It's funny though and I laughed every time the flower girls showed up - you'll know what I mean if you read it. :)

  4. It was actually the cover that made me download it in the first place, so don't tell me what to do! :-P I think it looks fun, but "surprising amount of depth" sounds like an accurate statement since the cover doesn't make it look particularly deep. Glad to hear it's funny but also has some depth and that you enjoyed it :-) I'll have to be sure to actually give this one a read (rather than forget about among the hoarder's pile that is my kindle library) when I need something lighter than my usual fare.

    1. Ha ha you like that cover? I think you might be on to something w/ the depth thing, maybe that's what I don't like. It doesn't look deep, I can see myself overlooking this one due to that. And the woman looks too vampy. :) But yeah this one is funny, the only thing I didn't like was some of the background stuff, the draw here for me was definitely the dialogue and the comedic moments.

    2. She does look kind of vampy. I think it's her pointy eyebrow. That pointy eyebrow really bothers me lol.

    3. Yeah I hadn't noticed that specifically- but now that you mention it, what's up with that? It is odd.

  5. I actually like the cover quite a bit but it's good to know that it doesn't really do the story justice! I like how you said that the depth of this one surprised you, I'm definitely intrigued now :D

    1. Do you? That's two people now who like the cover- maybe I'm not appreciating it. lol yeah it's fun and surprisingly detailed, a lot of it is well thought out and it's a fun universe to play in for awhile.

  6. The story sounds like a lot of fun. Too bad the cover doesn't quite reflect that. I will admit that the blue green color catches the eye however.

  7. I'm really glad you liked this one, Greg - I stumbled across it a couple of months ago and read and reviewed it. I think it's great - and you're right. The cover makes it look like quite a raunchy read, and it's nothing of the sort.

  8. This one sounds interesting, will have to look if it's still free. Not sure what to think of the cover, but I do like how it sort of fist the title as it seems they are on a date night on a station. I am glad to hear it has a surprising amount of depth, it's great when you find a novella that has that. I am glad to hear you enjoyed this one, it sounds like a fun sci-fi book!
