Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a new Top Ten list will be posted. Everyone is welcome to join. Link back to The Broke and the Bookish so everyone can check out other bloggers' lists. It's a fun way to get to know fellow bloggers.

This week's topic is Top Ten Valentine's Day Reads/ OTP's/ Crushes, etc.

This topic is a Valentine's Day freebie. I thought I'd share some favorite books and also some favorite OTP's/ crushes. Oh and until recently I had no idea what an OTP was...
 In no particular order...

Letters from Skye

This is a love story told in letters and set during the First World War as well as WWII. Elspeth is a poet living on the Isle of Skye in Scotland and receives a fan letter from David in America. They start a correspondence that spans years and eventually fall in love- we also meet her daughter Margaret years later who discovers a cache of old letters, the letters from David to her mom. The letters provide a clue as to where her mother has gone, as she has recently disappeared. This was a great story (and a debut novel) and was also one of my first reviews- I met the author maybe a week or two after starting my blog.

Here's an excerpt.

"As Christmas Eve turns into Christmas Day, right at the stroke of midnight, step outside and tilt your face up at the moon. Taste the snowflakes on your lips and imagine they are my lips touching yours. I will step outside at exactly the same time. I promise. No matter if I'm still in Paris or somewhere else in France, I'll close my eyes and imagine the same."

Eight Hundred Grapes

Eight Hundred Grapes would make a good Valentine's read. It's got a bit of romance and is one of those "what do I do with my life" books? There's a bit of angst and soul searching as Georgie has to come to terms with changes she didn't see coming- but it's a feel good book and I enjoyed it.

Quote:

I shook my head and whispered at Bobby, "Tell him I'm not here."
"Sure," Bobby said. "She's right here."
He handed the phone over.

Murder in the Paperback Parlor

I'd recommend this one as a Valentine's read since it takes place on Valentine's Day. At a book resort that is having a Valentine's event. A resort with several libraries, including a secret one with priceless literary artifacts. What's not to like?

One of my favorite films.

Another favorite movie... and since I like this movie so much, TWO clips.

This movie is awesome. And Emily Blunt is great in this.

Okay these are some of my favorite women on TV right now. We won't call them crushes... :)

Rachel Nichols of Continuum fame. Loved her as Kiera on that show, and will pretty much watch her in anything now.

Fangirl

Cath and Levi make a pretty good couple. Although I liked Regan a lot...

  2. OTP is a phrase I only see on book blogs :)

I want to read Letters from Skye. It sounds fantastic! Eight Hundred Grapes is also on my TBR list. Murder in the Paperback Parlor sounds like a fun mystery too.

I love Serendipity! It has been years since I've seen it but I believe it is on Netflix so maybe a rewatch is in order for Valentine's Day weekend :) Oh and poor Patty. I did like her and Barry together though I know he will end up with Iris (though probably not till the show is drawing to an end). I would have put Oliver and Felicity on my list (Laurel who?).

    Great list!

    1. EXactly. I was like, huh? :)

I highly recommend Letters from Skye. and 800 Grapes too. Heck, all of them LOL.

Serendipity is a fave. I like those two together. And did Patty and Barry split up? I'm behind on Flash... Iris is okay but I really like Patty for some reason.

    1. Me too. Bellarke all the way. Which means of course they will keep us dangling all season (and beyond) probably... but it's fun!

  6. OTP is still fairly new to me as well! Somehow I haven't seen any of the movies though Definitely Maybe has been on my list since it came out. I love Ryan Reynolds. I really want to read the Ellery Adams series. I had no idea that one was set on Valentine's Day! What fun!

  7. Great list! I've been wanting to read Letters from Skye for some time now. Cathy and Levi were a wonderful couple, I enjoyed reading their scenes and the development of their relationship in Fangirl.

Great list! Aww, yay for Tohru & Kyo, Faramir & Eowyn, Evie & Rick, Monica & Chandler, Amy & Jake...Haha, I remember thinking how funny and interesting Rogue & Gambit were in that X-Men series (still my favourite, I think that's why I could never really enjoy the live-action movies :3). I haven't watched Penny Dreadful--am forever behind with tv shows on top of everything else--but that's good to know about the series and that it works with all of the characters included.

    1. Omg I am so sorry, I seem to be doing this quote a bit today--please disregard the second paragraph, that comment was meant for another blog =/

    2. That's okay, it happens. Although I must admit I'm curious what blog that was so I can comment too- Faramir and Eowyn, X-Men... looks like a post I need to see. :)

As to your comment, thank you! Letters from Skye is quite good, and Cath and Levi- totally agree. :)

  8. I'm so bad with acronyms. Even some of the more common ones. Until last night, I didn't know what OTP was either. And I'm sure I'll forget it soon enough.

I love the sound of Letters From the Skye. It's one that's been on my wish list for awhile now. Ellery Adams' book sounds like my kind of Valentine's Day reading!

    1. I don't feel so bad. I thought maybe as a guy I just had not come across that little phrase yet LOL. Letters from Skye is good. And the Adams book is a nice Valentines read.

    1. Yay, I'm not alone. I found a few weeks ago, probably after seeing this topic and thinking what the heck is an OTP? LOL.

  10. I haven't read or seen any of these, but that first quote is so sweet. And the second one is funny. And I love the cat on the Paperback Parlor cover lol.

  11. Oh Barry Allen and Patty!! ♥ I love them too :D Ditto on Cath and Levi, they were super cute but I really like Regan too :) I really enjoyed The Adjustment Bureau too! Awesome selection here Greg^^

    1. I like those two, although I'm behind on Flash so far all I know they might not still be together? I hope they are! Regan was awesome! And The Adjustment Bureau- glad to see someone else saw it. A lot of times people are like, huh? :)

  12. Like I said in my TTT, I like Clexa but Bellarke is for the win. I don't mind the Clexa ship, but I just think Bellamy and Clarke suit each other a lot more and make each other better people. Lexa just makes Clarke worse. I mean, there was that whole Tondc incident. If Lexa wasn't there, Clarke would have at least warned a couple people.

  13. Fun post! I sure hope Zoo comes back for another season! I loved the Adjustment Bureau, but probably because I love Matt Damon so much! Fun post! One of these weeks I need to join into the TTT again!

  14. I completely forgot about the movie Serendipity! I'm going to have to watch that one again soon.

I haven't read any of the books you mention but quite a few sound good. I'll have to add them to my reading list. :)

  15. I had stuff to say but then BELLARKE. They need to happen. Clexa was fine for last season, but she betrayed Clarke and if Clarke takes her back... Nope nope nope. I also cannot believe that I have not read or seen ANY of the others. That is a huge fail on my part. Though I *might* have seen Serendipity? I honestly don't remember, but I feel like I did. Great list ::whispers:: as long as Bellarke beats out Clexa in the end.

  16. Now I want to read Letters from the Skye. I love the setting. Eight Hundred Grapes has been on my wishlist, thanks for the reminder!!

  17. Haha, these codified expressions like OTP do take some getting used to. I feel like I understand them but I don't use them very often. :)

Ah, I love Serendipity! It's such a good movie. And I haven't watched Definitely, Maybe or The Adjustment Bureau, thanks for the recs!

And I definitely vote for Bellarke. I'm never sure of Lexa's intentions but Bellamy just loves her SO MUCH! :) Ah, I hope they finally get together in this season.

  18. Great picks! The Adjustment Bureau was so awesome!! :)
