Cover Characteristics

Cover Characteristics is a meme by Sugar and Snark- every week a characteristic is selected and we post 5 books with that week's theme.

This week's pick- Skylines

This weeks theme- Skylines- is similar to moons in that I was more interested in this one than some. Who doesn't love a skyline, especially on a beautiful night? The sounds and feel of the city, the feeling of being alive in the night, the infinite possibilities- a night in the city. This would seem to be a topic tailor made for urban fantasy, and that's right where I went first to bring this one to life. So... let's see what awaits us.

The ImmortalsBiting Bad (Chicagoland Vampires, #8)Insurgent (Divergent, #2)Afterlight (Dark Ink Chronicles, #1)Discount Armageddon (InCryptid, #1)Falling Sky (Ben Gold, #1)Twice Bitten (Chicagoland Vampires, #3)Cash Crash Jubilee: Book One of the Jubilee CycleAfter the End (After the End, #1)17162377

Insurgent (Divergent, #2)

Insurgent is my favorite of the Divergent book covers.

Biting Bad (Chicagoland Vampires, #8)

Biting Bad I used for moons but I'm reusing it here because I like this one. The Chicago skyline, the water, the wind blowing her hair- it all works for me.

Afterlight (Dark Ink Chronicles, #1)

Afterlight- I just like her hair.

Cash Crash Jubilee: Book One of the Jubilee Cycle

Cash Crash Jubilee is a cover I've spotlighted before, and I like it for the futuristic look- the neon and the rain drenched streets.

After the End (After the End, #1)

This is more of a dystopian I think, I've seen this one around and it's pretty good- I think it catches the eye.

City of Eternal Night (Crescent City, #2)

I like City of Eternal Night a lot (and is that a cool name or what?). I like the skyline, the moon and even the beads hanging down. Plus the face paint/ tattoage/ whatever on her forehead.

17162377

I remember this one from a few years ago- there is a skyline if you look real close- and a big moon which is always a win.

Discount Armageddon (InCryptid, #1)

Discount Armageddon just has a certain something, I like the lighted buildings behind her and it just works.

The Immortals

The Immortals I like  because Central Park, and ancient secrets in NYC. This one is my favorite, just a bit over Discount Armageddon.

  2. Ah, so you love skylines just as much as I do ;-)

This *is* a great topic for urban fantasy! Probably half the reason I loved it so much lol. I considered using Discount Armageddon---it is a great one. But wow, I LOVE City of Eternal Night! Like, everything about it. Including the title. I have just added the series to my TBR. Biting Bad is also fantastic. And Any Other Name. And Afterlight. There are too many great ones. I'm overwhelmed lol. And that is some impressive art on that magazine cover!

    1. This is one of the better topics I think we've had. I had fun with it. :)

Discount Armageddon is great- I really like that one. And City of Eternal Night- I thought the same thing when I saw it. I HAVE to use this one. :) Any Other Name I really like too.

The magazine cover- when I saw it I was like, how could I not use this one? LOL. I might have to get that magazine... :P

  3. Obviously, this week's theme was easier than the piano theme. So many different sky lines. That magazine cover is creepy, but it draws the eye. As always, thanks for putting this together.

  4. I love this topic! I'm not sure how many of my books have skylines on the cover but it's definitely something that pulls me in. I think I like the cover for Any Other Name Best and that magazine cover is terrifying!

    1. Me too- maybe my favorite so far. I've always liked a good skyline on a cover. Urban fantasy sometimes has the most interesting covers! Any Other Name is a good one- it was a late add and I remember that one from a few years ago when I started blogging- I almost read it.

I kinda stumbled on the magazine cover and I had to use it! It is a bit terrifying isn't it?

  5. So many books! I love comparing book covers and thinking about all the work that went into designing them - first impressions are so important, and an eye-catching cover can really influence whether or not I pick up a book.

    1. Me too- I try not to judge a book by the cover alone but frankly a great cover will get me every time!

  6. You have a great collection of skyline covers here. I have only read one of the ones you featured, but you have a few on here that I'm tempted to add onto my TBR list. :D

    1. This is one of my favorite topics, some are better than others. This one was fun. I like that one too, in fact I almost picked it as my favorite. It's a very nice cover.

  9. Those are some beautiful covers. I especially love the one for 'After The End'. The way the sky mirrors the ground in texture while holding it's own uniqueness too, and fading away to the city in the distance. Magic. I do love a nice sky on a book cover. My favourite has to be the night sky. There's something automatically intriguing about a book with the night sky on it's cover.

    1. I like that one too. Whenever I see it it always catches my eye. And I tend to like night skies too- especially if there's a moon or moonlight streaming through, or even stars. Or skylines as in this case. :) This one was fun to put together.

  11. These are great! I LOVE the skyline covers! After the End's is very intriguing- and it isn't what you think ;) I think The Immortals one is really great too. One that I love that isn't on your list is Skyscraping- it's SO pretty, and a unique vantage point. Great choices!

  13. I like the cover of Insurgent but I liked the cover of Divergent more. For some reason Insurgent's cover design reminds me of broccoli whenever I see it!

I like the covers of Biting Bad and Afterlight as well as Any Other Name. Nice picks!
