Sunday Post #109

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

This week was hot- back to summer temps. I am looking forward to fall though- cool nights and turning colors. Last week I reviewed The 100 (one of my favorite shows) and I also started watching Dark Matter (thanks to Iza for that one!). Wednesday was A Dance with Dragons day- my readalong continues. And I talked favorite food as part of KissinBlueKaren's Beyond the Books feature.

Next week I have a few reviews lined up, including the new Star Wars book Lost Stars. This one is getting a lot of rave reviews at Amazon. I'll post my thoughts on Thursday. I'll also check in with Daenerys this week, and might even get a post up on Dark Matter. I've been binging it all week.

  2. Oh, lots of good shows! And as for movies, I watched Divergent, but haven't seen Insurgent or Allegiant. Enjoy your books...I like the look of Death Sits Down for Dinner.

    Thanks for visiting my blog!

  3. I discovered Amazon Prime Music has all the Star Wars soundtracks. Things have been happening very dramatically every since around here. Add the Imperial March to anything and it all of a sudden gets much more intense! Death Sits Down for Dinner looks very much my kind of book especially since Death of Dishonorable Gentleman is already on my TBR. Have a great week!

  5. All of your books look super cool. I want to find out more about them. That trailer for Dark Matter looks like a fun show. I watched the first installment of The 100, based on your recommendation and told hubby about it. Thanks for discussing tv and movies here also. I always find enjoyable links on your weekend post.

    1. It is a fun show. I got hooked this week and binged the whole season! Now I have to wait til next year for the new one. Sigh. How did you like the 100? I thought it was a bit teen angsty at first but it gets better as it goes- and season 2 is awesome as things change a lot. Hope you like it...

  6. Death Sits Down For Dinner looks good, I'll look for your review. I received a bunch of Star Wars books this week, my first ones. I'm more inclined to Star Trek but I'll give these a try.

Do you have Hulu? This week, I binged on two BBC shows, no longer on air, Outcasts and Survivors. Both were good but both ended on cliffhangers dang it. Both are a but soap operaish but really good looks at humanity in the future.

    1. I like classic Trek. When I was a kid I read the Logs too, based on the animated show. I liked those... Star Wars is mixed for me, like the originals but never really read any of the books, until recently I've read a couple of the new ones. One was good, one just OK.

I don't have Hulu, although they did email me a free 2 week offer. Just haven't redeemed it yet. I'll have to get on there and check those out. I've been enjoying the futuristic stuff lately. I didn't realize there were so many good SF shows on right now.

  7. Ohhh... Dark Matter... In my blog today I talk about needing to find some new TV shows to watch so I wonder if it's out here in Australia yet. Must also check out your review of The 100. I've watched S1 but want to get hold of S2!

    1. I was recommended that show by Iza and loved it. But I'm a sci fan. For the longest time I didn't really watch TV much but now I have two shows in a row I really liked. Kinda nice...

I liked S2 of The 100 a lot more than S1, but that might just be me. I thought the story expanded, but there were some nasty surprises!

  8. I haven't watched The 100 yet but it's on my list of series to binge on. And I'll keep Dark Matter in mind too. We have your fall! The evenings and mornings are cool and crisp and the trees look fab, Makes for lovely walking weather. Hope yours arrives soon!

  9. Maybe I need to look into Dark Matter, too? I have just signed up for Netflix, so it will be easier for me to binge-watch stuff, now :D
We've had warmer weather again since Friday, too, Greg, but I'm ready for fall to really be her now. We do have cool nights once more, though, so we're all sleeping well :D
Have a fantastic week ahead and happy reading.

  15. Yay, another person converted to The 100 haha. I LOVE that show! And Dark Matter sounds right up my alley as well, but I sometimes struggle with memory loss narratives, because the characters are so bland at first (it's why I had troubles with Maze Runner as well). I'll definitely give it a try though!

  16. I have heard of Dark Matter just never watched it, I have been binge watching Bones. I will add that to my Watch List if Netflix has it.

I plan to read the last two Stoker and Holmes books for the Dewey 24 Hour Read-a-thon. The first was so good I am excited to get back into that world.

Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

    1. I don't think Netflix has it, but I found out the episodes are on youtube! So free basically- and SyFy channel website has some of them although you might need to be a cable subscriber to see them- I'm not so I had to watch them a different way. I purchased the first few, then watched the rest on Youtube once I realized they were there.

      Hope you had good weekend.

  17. Ooooh! I'm currently listening to the Lost Stars audiobook! I think it would have been better to read it myself because I'm not loving the voice actor, but it's still pretty great! Need and The Incident on the Bridge both look awesome! Enjoy your new reads :D

  20. We had another week of summer, too, but it's nice and cool in the 60s today. The leaves are changing a little around here already... looks like 70s most of the week.

Lots of good books, too. Death Sits Down to Dinner caught my hope. Hope you have a great week!

  23. We're having some cooler weather, but not really fall cold yet. I am also looking forward to fall I always enjoy seeing the trees turn colour.

Nice lost of blogging events for the upcoming months. I did sci-fi month last year, but not sure if I'll join this year or not. I might be able to do some reviews, but not almost full month like I did last year. I only signed-up for Blog Ahead so far.

I hope you'll have a great week and enjoy your new books!

  27. Even though I thought the book was a disappointing end to the series, I'm looking forward to the Allegiant movie. I've got 3 episodes of Hannibal to finish the final season, the latest season of Downton Abbey has started and Scandal on Friday ... hell yes!! But I'm adding The 100 and Dark Matter to my viewing list :)

    1. I'm looking forward to Allegiant too. I don't know why, but I like those movies. I've read the first two, not anxious to read the third but I might. I like seeing them on the screen though.

I hope you like The 100 or DM if you get to them. I'm finding myself hooked by more and more shows these days...

  28. I look forward to seeing your thoughts on Lost Stars, I haven't started it yet. Part of me is a bit worried it'll be too dumbed down, or focus on romance and not the overall Star Wars feel of it. I just don't want the universe to get lost in favor of hormones. I'm actually struggling through Aftermath right now, it's first SW book in the new set that I haven't liked.
I'll have to check out the Frightfall event and the Sci-Fi month!
I hope you have an awesome week!

    1. To be honest Lost Stars was OK but didn't blow me out of the water. The story and writing were fine, it just didn't wow me. You basically see ALL the events of the original trilogy through the eyes of these characters, and they were kinda interesting, but I wasn't super invested in the story until the end. I liked Heir of the Jedi a lot more.

The romance itself doesn't kick in until later in the story, they're mostly friends for the first half, but still... it's just OK. I've heard some of the flap about Aftermath and all the one star reviews, and given your thoughts I might skip it.

Lost Stars gives us Coruscant and some other iconic locations, but I don't know, it's not bad I just didn't love it. Pretty ambivalent.

  29. Dark Matter looks really interesting. They don't show it here though (and we don't have netflix) so I'll have to wait.
The readathons look interesting as well.

    Happy Reading!

  30. A Dance With Dragons! Awesome! :D
I'm so jealous that you're still getting Summer weather :( It feels like we had it for about a week and it disappeared... though that could be because I work nights :P he he.
Great covers on the books you've shown! That Nerd looks really good (based on the cover, lol).
I hope you're enjoying Dark Matter, I've never watched it myself but I think I'm going to have to look into it!
    Have a great week!
