Sunday Post #69
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.
The first full week of November is behind us and you can sure tell by the weather- at least around here. It has gotten colder and windy as well- this morning it is raining.
NaNoWriMo is going well, although after a fast start I've slowed down a bit. I did take time out to revisit a story I wrote last year for the HoHoHo Readathon, and I'll be posting that on Tuesday with minor changes. It's a short little Christmas tale- let me know what you think!
SciFi Month is in full swing, and so is the HoHoHo Readathon. I'm having a lot of fun with both- I put up a review on Friday for Vitro, which is a fast paced YA thriller that I read earlier in the year, but I wanted to share it again for SciFi Month. Also I reviewed Murder at the Brightwell, a very good mystery This week I've got some Christmas themed reads for the readathon, and I'm trying to decide what to read next.

Wow, I don't surf but those huge waves must be tempting for a surfer--wild weather!
ReplyDeleteI like the looks of all three of your incoming books in different ways, good assortment. I'm more fantasy than sci-fi in my choices, but I'm glad you're enjoying Sci-Fi Month and Vitro does sound intriguing! Enjoy the rest of the weekend, Greg.
I'm more fantasy too, and realized I don't have a ton of sci fi reviews. I am enjoying the event and reading all the posts. My books this week are all a bit different and I have no idea what I'll read next! Thank you for stopping Rita, hope you have a great weekend too.
DeleteLove the covers for all your new books and enjoyed both your reviews last week. I hope you enjoy your Christmas reads, mine have been a mixed bag so far.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend!
Thanks Bea! I'm enjoying the Christmas reads so far, not sure how many I'll get through! Have a great weekend too!
DeleteThose waves are amazing to watch, but it drives me nuts that people are still going out on the piers (not surfers). Trust Me I'm Lying made its way to my shelves. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI thought so too, quite a show they put on this week. I can't believe people are going on those piers either- not too smart. I hope Trust Me is good, not sure when I'll get to it but hopefully soon!
DeleteWow, those waves are amazing. Some great looking books there, I really like the look of Trust Me I'm Lying. Bit of a mix with HoHoHo books and SciFi books, but mixing it up keeps it all interesting. Enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteTrust Me, I'm Lying sounds really interesting and your Christmas/winter reads looks really cute. I also enjoyed reading your review for Murder at the Brightwell, I've always liked books set in the 20s and 30s so will have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteThank you Whitney, I highly recommend it as it was a very fun book. I'm looking forward to Trust Me, I'm Lying!
DeleteGreat Christmas books! I've enjoyed the Rhys Bowen series so far though I'm several behind. I just realized that the Anne Perry is actually about the Pitt's child! I'll definitely be looking for that one as well. Trust Me I'm Lying looks intriguing. You're reading and have gotten some great books this week. Can't wait to see what you think of them all!
ReplyDeletePlease none of this talk about Christmas, Greg! I'm not even ready for Thanksgiving!!

Kudos to you for the progress you're making on NaNoWriMo and the reading challenges. I really like the covers for the Christmas books you've featured this week. Sounds like we've got similar weather...ugh.
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday post: http://www.bookclublibrarian.com/2014/11/weekly-book-recap-88.html
Thanks Catherine. NaNo is slowing a bit for me, I had a torrent of words to start and now it's going a little slower. A fun experience though. I'm liking the Christmas covers too.
DeleteLove the cover of Heirs and Graces - it has that posterized/cut-out look but good depth as well. I am also on the Sunday Post: http://fangswandsandfairydust.com/2014/11/cinderella-sunday.html
ReplyDeleteI totally agree- and that was the draw for me actually- the cover. I love that vintage look...
DeleteI have been enjoying the Ho Ho Ho Read a thon (almost done with my first book, I'm a slow reader) and look forward to reading your short tale!
ReplyDeleteI love the cover of Winterfrost I need to go look that one up! Super cute!
Have a great week Greg and thanks for the shout out :)
I'm liking it too, but after finishing my first book I've slowed waay down. Just not enough time to read (I say as I blog!). :) Anyway good luck and enjoy the rest of the readathon. I hope you like the story, I posted it last year but thought I would dust it off.
DeleteBTW I thought of you last night, The Nine lives of Christmas was on the Hallmark Channel and I remembered you read it and said it would be a movie. OMG it was soooo cute watched it again this afternoon :) Not sure if you got to see it yet but it's worth a watch.
DeleteAwesome! I liked the book, and wondered how they would do with the show. I wasn't sure how I felt about the casting (I saw a little behind the scenes thing on it) cause I had the characters in my head, so I'm glad to hear it works. I have not seen it yet but now I want to!
DeleteThe Christmas books have such lovely covers...now I want to read something that evokes the season.
ReplyDeleteI am also curious about Trust Me, I'm Lying. That could be fun....or scary. LOL
Thanks for visiting my blog, and enjoy your week.
Me too, I'm starting the holiday season a bit early this year I guess. Must be al lthese readathons and bookish people I've met since bogging. :)
DeleteI have high hopes for Agent Carter. I think Constantine is going to be canceled. I watched the first episode but am going to wait to watch anymore. Want to see if it will be canceled or not first. It's interesting to me to see how many people are writers... I usually don't know it until NaNoWriMo.
ReplyDeleteI do too. I wsn't sure if I would be into that series, but after seeing that promo I'm onboard! Looks good. I'm surprised too at the writers participating, but I guess it makes sense that a lot of bloggers would be writers too. I had noidea about NaNo until I started doing this...
DeleteI want to read Trust Me, I'm Lying based off of that title alone! I loved the first couple of books in the Rhys Bowen series but haven't continue on with it lately. I really should as they are fun reads! I hope you have a great week! Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteThe weather here is so weird, one day it's really cold and then we have some very mild days again.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping to get a few more sci-fi boosk read this month for sci-fi november. And it's so much fun seeing everyone's posts!
The cover for Winterfrost looks great. I hope you'll enjoy your new books.
Thanks Lola. I'm enjoying sciFi Month too, it's great so far. I'm amazed how many good posts there are, wishing now I would have planned more out! :)
DeleteThose waves are crazy! The weather got warm again here and I'm getting sick of it. I read for the Ho-Ho-Ho Read-a-thon so at least that got me feeling more of the holiday season instead of our weather! Agent Carter looks really good! I hope you were able to read or write this weekend. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThey were, the weather last week was not very good. :) I agree the readathon, with all those holiday reads, is a good way to get in the holiday mood. I think Agent Carter will be good too!
DeleteIt's been cold here all week, but it looks like we're going to get warmer weather for the next couple of days and then I think it gets bad again. Cold to warm is how we all end up with colds. Oh well...it is, what it is as they say :)
ReplyDeleteI have What Happens At Christmas to read and it looks really good.
Hope you have a great week!
I love the cover of What Happens at Christmas. It looks so Christmasy. :) I'll have to come back and read your Christmas story.
ReplyDeleteI thought so too, that's actually what drew me t othe book. :) I thought with a cover like that it must be good!
DeleteI hate this time of the year because of the weather! It's getting cold here and I do not like it. :( I am trying my hand at NaNo but it's not going well, I haven't found much time to really get any writing in so far. :(
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your reads and thanks for stopping by my blog. :)
NaNo was going well for me at first, but as I progress I find that maybe my story idea isn't as devloped as much as I thought, so it's slowing me down. We;ll see how it goes. :) Good luck with it and I hope you have fun with it.
DeleteI'm not fond of the weather either now, it's just going to be cold from here on
Glad to hear that NaNoWriMo is going well.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new books and have a great week.
Sharon @ Sharon's Book Nook!
Thank you Sharon. NaNo has slowed down for me over the weekend, but there's still time. Hope your week is good as well.
DeleteOh, Trust Me I'm Lying looks good on so many levels… both the name or the cover alone are enough to tempt me. I'm NaNoing as well but feeling very luke warm about what I'm writing!
ReplyDeleteDeb
Yes I love the idea of thirty days of thanksgiving - great idea, if they do it next year I'll have time to get involved. Winter Frost looks like fun, will look forward to your comments on it when you read it.
ReplyDeleteI heard Trust Me Im Lying is good :) I hope you enjoy your books :)

I liked Trust Me, I'm Lying. I like the variety you are reading. Mysteries and Christmas stories are really different. Here is my week. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteWhat Happens at Christmas is definitely going on my list! Also, Winterfrost looks cute. :) Perfect reads for the predicted cold, snowy week we might get!
