The Olympics have been on all the time over here. I have been watching rowing and surfing as well as diving. I also watched the women's Cycling road race- wow. I watched a little sailing also- I admit I have no idea what's happening half the time, but it's fun to watch. Okay it's a tad boring too. Love the venue though- Enoshima island is actually a place I saw in a walking tour, so that was cool.

Highlights for me this week:

The synchronized diving. The Chinese women were awesome and I felt so bad for Italy after that disappointment with their last dive.

Surfing has been a blast.

South Africa upset Steph Gilmore of Australia in the surfing- it seemed like there were a lot of upsets - but I liked that surfing was fairly truncated- about four days and done.

Greece in the rowing women's pair comes from behind to win (Kyridou/ Bourmpo). Kyridou didn't do as well in the later individual races but dang that race!

The Romanians were DOMINANT in the women's double sculls. And holy %^&* in the lightweight double sculls Italy took it after the Netherlands led all race. Loved seeing Federica screaming in the boat after. :)

More diving- in the women's synchronized 10m the Chinese. How do they do that?

This week in walking tours we have a nice Tokyo and Seoul walk.

I'm liking the idea of sharing a tweet occasionally to generate discussion.

  1. It's really wild the sheer number of sports in the Olympics, and so many I've either never heard of or didn't even realize were in the Olympics! There's always something different on.

  2. I used to love watching the Olympics, but this year I only watched a bit of swimming and gymnastics. The energy's definitely not the same, but what can you do. Love the art pieces this week, The Fallen Ballerina kinda reminds me of Moana!

  3. I like the athletics especially the running. Strange because I am a real couch potato.

  4. This made me laugh: "I watched a little sailing also- I admit I have no idea what's happening half the time, but it's fun to watch. Okay it's a tad boring too." Haha. This is the first time I have actually been interested in Olympics follow-ups, never struck me before for some reason. And love the Fallen Ballerina pic, reminds me of that island in the Life of Pi movie.
    Have a great weekend! ~Lex

  5. So much stuff has been going on with the Olympics, that it's making my head spin. Definitely different from what we've seen in the past for sure. Hope you're feeling well, Gorgeous Greg, and sending lots of hugs, RO

  6. I haven't really watched much of the games other than when we were out last week and they had it playing on the TVs. Glad to hear you are enjoying it all.

  7. How are those Chinese divers so good at their entries? They're amazing to watch. I love the diving, and the equestrian events. BMX freestyle is a lot of fun, too. And our surfing gold medal was awesome! I kind of like to watch the archery, too. I love the Olympics. :D

  8. I haven't watched a lot of the games, but I did see some of the women's hurdles qualifying matches last night. The coverage wasn't great. They would only introduce like four of the runners and breeze over the rest. I guess they wanted to focus on the ones most likely to win.

  11. I's funny how you're on a first-name basis with the Italian lightweight double sculls team and I had to google them LOL.

It doesn't look like there was any need for that woman to be shot, does it? Has police learned anything during the last couple of years?

The Fallen Ballerina is AWESOME! I had to go on the site and zoom in for details.

  12. I've been watching skateboarding and soccer wherever I can find free streaming. I usually watch women's gymnastics, but I haven't had time to look for any free viewing. I also need to look for some dressage. 🐴

The woman who was shot had her hands up, too. 😡

Have a wonderful new week. 🌞

  15. We haven't watched the olympics much, my husband has tried to keep up on his phone, but I'm sure there's lots we've missed. We don't have a TV here, so it's actually nice that we do other things as a family.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading and olympic watching :)

  16. Sounds like you're enjoying watching the olympics. I haven't watched any of it. That's cool the location was one you saw in a walking video before, I like watching those walking video's. I don't think I watched one in Seoul yet, I'll add that one to my watch later. I hope you have a great week!

  18. I am glad you are enjoying the Olympics...I must admit that I don't like watching any of these events on TV. I don't know what that says about me, but I'm okay with it. LOL

Enjoy your week and your books, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  19. I was on the edge of my seat last night watching to see if we would win the swimming relay for the 15th time in a row and remain undefeated!

  20. I confess that I haven't watched the Olympics at all! I didn't even know surfing was an olympic sports now!

  21. I haven't watched any of the Olympics. I'm not really into sports expect to watch my baseball team.

    Those walks look so nice.

    Have a great week!

  22. We watched a ton of Olympics last weekend and a few during the week! I have so much DVR'd. I think I'll take some time tonight and this week to catch up on the highlights! Love the swimming and gymnastics. Looking forward to catching up on track and field and we watched a bit of the skateboarding which was really interesting and scary with all the wipeouts on their tricks. I also really love watching it in Japan. I miss it. Can't wait to go back one day.

I hope you have a wonderful week. Stay safe!

  23. I could talk about the olympics for hours. I have been loving the diving so far and how tight the Chinese team is this year. I am biased towards Canada and loved their silver medal in the 3 m springboard. I am also really into women's soccer, and looking forward to team Canada taking on the US!

  24. The Olympics has been great to watch for the most part. A lot of world records have been broken so far, which is awesome!

  25. Olympia is aired here late at night, and I don´t stay up to watch it live. The news ticker gives me all the information I need *smile* Happy reading and have a great new week.

  26. I'm glad you're enjoying the Olympics! Somehow, it hasn't been very high on my list of things to do this year, but I have enjoyed them in years past. Still, other than the gymnastics and sometimes the diving, I'm more of a Winter Olympics fan.

  27. The Olympics sound exciting this year. I read a few news articles on them but haven't turned them on yet.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I somehow haven't watched any of the Olympics this year though I have fully meant to turn it on. Normally I have it on at least in the background so I can pick up bits of it. I bet the sailing is gorgeous though sailing is not a particularly great spectator sport! I've been playing lots of GeoGuessr and have been really enjoying "exploring" the world that way. Thanks for your kind words on my post. We are so devastated for the family but still hoping for a miracle. I hope you have a wonderful week!

  29. It's good the athletes are able to compete, they all work so hard. I watched a bit of the sailing and what I was interested in seeing was the coastline behind them!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hi Greg. The sailing event rules are just as mysterious to me! Lol! I've got the Olympic coverage on in the background. I've loved how the lack of crowds hasn't diminished the competitors' enthusiasm in any of the events I've seen.

  31. I love that during the Olympics we all become obsessed with sports we know nothing about! Somehow this time around I haven't focused on them so much, but maybe I can still catch a few events. Also, police just straight up rubber-bulleting a protestor is nuts. I hope you have a lovely week :)

  32. My husband loves sailing.. We were watching something the other day and I was like they look like they are all over the place. He was trying to explain how it was all logical but I couldn't see it!

    ReplyDelete
  33. We've been off and on about the Olympics -- I guess COVID, etc. has kind of drained the excitement for us. I grew up sailing, so that's always a highlight.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I've only seen bits and pieces of the Olympics this year. I've missed all the diving. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I watched the men’s synchronised diving but haven’t had a chance yet to watch the women’s. I don’t think I even realised sailing was part of the Olympics!

Wishing you a great reading week

  37. I am enjoying the Olympics , the ones I can watch. We changed over to streaming and it is more difficult to find with out paying for another channel. I forgot how much I usually watch LOL

  39. I also watched Men's and Women's surfing. Finally, it's been included in the Olympics!!! They had superb conditions at the Tsurigasaki Beach for the last three runs.

  40. I've watched a few highlights here and there, mainly swimming and gymnastics, but not nearly as much as I have in previous years.

  41. I've been watching some Olympics highlights. Enjoyed the skateboarding gals. Happy watching.

  42. I usually try to catch some diving, the synchronized diving is especially cool, but I haven't seen any this year. I've just watched the gymnastics. Glad you've been enjoying the Olympics!

  43. Lots of great Olympics going on right now. I try to make time to watch a little every day, if I can. I hope the woman who was shot in that tweet is okay. Lots of people online keep making excuses for the cop's behavior. We are devolving as a society. It makes me angry and sad.

  44. We've been trying to stream the Olympics but lately the Primetime coverage we've been finding is endless volleyball matches. I like skipping around the sports like they normally do in primetime. Last night, we gave up and only streamed gymnastics.

    Enjoy your week!
