Sunday Post #369

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Book Date

Another Friday is here and that means Chinese takeout. This is getting to be a pattern. :) I hope everyone is well? I keep hearing about how bad 2020 is- and someone, I think Heather at Random Redheaded mentioned Godzilla?- honestly, it wouldn't surprise me at this point if Godzilla did surface offshore. I'm still watching 3% and just trying to motivate myself. I did some blog hopping this week though and honestly? It helps to check in with people. With all the craziness going on I find that my circle of blog friends are comforting right now- it feels like a bit of normalcy amidst a sea of craziness.

Speaking of... when I log in to Facebook I'm pretty sure Trump is going to win. When I log in to Twitter I'm more hopeful for Biden. Isn't that funny? I mean, Facebook (my feed, anyway) feels like Trumpworld. People I know are in, and it feels like two Americas for sure. Others have commented on this many times, of course, but there are just two totally different information ecosystems out there. It's scary. One anecdote I'll share- yard signs. I live in a very red part of Michigan- honestly, my county may be the reddest in the state? And yet, this week I've noticed there are 4 or 5 Biden signs just on my street. That's... unusual?

New Blogger is still giving me fits. Let's see, I may have went overboard on walking tour videos this week. I kept seeing ones I wanted to share. I do play them in the background while I do other things- this week a couple of them had neat extras, like the second one has a bunch of cats. Can you find 'em? And a neat hilltop neighborhood. Anyway, less art this week but more tours. :)

Be well and take care.

PULP COVER OF THE WEEK:

BOOKISH LINKS

This first one is great- a new one for me but it's a popular tourist area of Kyoto at night. Very well done!

Some more relaxation ambience.

  1. I don't have any Republican friends or family on Facebook, so my feed is fine. Ha ha. It's how I keep in touch with family and close friends. If your account is set to private you don't have to put up with the population at large. I don't think a lot of people know there are tons of settings on FB to sculpt what you see and who sees your stuff; even from your own friends list. Maybe I'll do a post about it. 😇 Ha ha.

I had Chinese this week, too. We used to get it once a month, but the place down the street closed when the Covid stuff started happening. I think they were afraid they wouldn't be getting enough business because of fear. They reopened a couple of weeks ago and that made me very happy! 🍜

I hope you have a wonderful new week! 🌞

    1. You're lucky! :) And I use it sparingly, so not like I'm seeing it all the time. And I don't expect to only see one view, it's just that when I get on there I get inundated with fake news stuff and it kills me. I don't mind the other side but fake virus and all that... ugh.

Chinese. I could eat it all the time. :) It is becoming a Friday tradition tho. It was pizza, now it's Chinese!

  2. All my Facebook friends are Democrats but I know what you mean about the information systems. The media can spin anything to be one way or the other or both. Its terrifying! Love the walking tours! I like the ones with ambient city sounds rather than background music. Have a good week, Greg!

    1. Ah that would be soothing! :):) But you're right, every story has two sides right????? And I agree, I like just the sounds better, not music.

  3. I'm glad I don't have to vote in your election! A lot of us in the UK aren't liking Biden and Pelosi telling us what kind of deal the UK is allowed to do with the EU for Brexit, which is none of their business. I'm sure the US politicians would've LOVED having unelected people in Japan set laws for it to follow or Canada telling them who they can and can't jail or Mexico dictating policy on immigration and justice! Obama threatened us with no US trade deal if we voted for Brexit and now Biden & Pelosi are doing the same. I doubt our countries will retain the special relationship if Biden wins! I still think Trump will probably win though unless the swing states abandon him.

    1. I wish I didn't! I look longingly at Scotland and various other places from time to time. :) I hear you though, I hadn't been following the Brexit announcements from Biden or whatever but I can see where that would be frustrating. There are times where you want to just say- stay out of our business!!

  4. Good luck with the upcoming election! The fact that you’ve been seeing more Biden signs looks promising, I just really hope people see that he is the lesser of the two evils by a landslide!

I am hating new Blogger. I keep trying to revert back to the old format but it just changes back every time I log out. It’s so confusing!

  5. Yes, sometimes I feel like Facebook has an entirely different demographic than Instagram, which I also use quite a bit. More Trump on Facebook, way more Biden on Instagram!

  6. You have Chinese every Friday, we have pizza, but that's because we never ate meat on Fridays (we're old school Catholic). I love pizza, so no problem. I hope you work everything out with blogger. I am ok, but I keep hearing about troubles from others.

    1. It is getting to the point where I DO have Chinese every Friday, and I'm kinda loving it. Otherwise it would be pizza as well!!!

  7. Mmm...Chinese takeout sounds really good. Maybe that's what I'll get for dinner tonight. :D

  8. Chinese takeouts on Fridays sounds so nice! I don't live in the US but still even my twitter feed has a lot about the US election and seeing the tweets makes even me nervous sometimes. Wish you the best with these elections! :)
OOh I'll watch those Kyoto walk tour videos because I like to watch them if the places are mentioned in the books and I have never been, it makes it easy for me to imagine haha plus Kyoto is beautiful from what I've seen on TV.

  9. We've been slammed with so much bad news the las couple of weeks, I just avoid any social network news for the moment. Luckily it's quite easy as we are in the bushes with no wifi and bad cellphone reception. So hotspot when necessary! Feel honored...

Hope your Chinese was good and your week will be even better. Take care!

  10. I had to unfollow some people on Facebook so I won't see them in my feeds. I just couldn't handle it anymore. You also inspired me to go look for how to get a Biden/Harris sign for my yard. Planning on ordering one ASAP!

  11. I feel like both my feeds in Facebook and Twitter are heavily swayed towards Democrats, though not many of the people who chime in are even Americans, lol! I'm originally from Canada, so a lot of my social media friends are from there and since there's a heavy liberal bias in Canadian news, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. The state I live is blue though, but I'm seeing a ton of Trump signs. And yet, four years ago, I definitely saw more Hillary signs, so my guess is that people just aren't as excited for Biden this time around. And hey, bring on Godzilla! At this point, any kind kind of excitement will be a welcome distraction from 2020 :P

  12. Honestly I feel like Godzilla could only improve things at this point lol.

I immediately unfriended the one person on my FB feed who was tweeting about how everyone should stop living in fear of the pandemic and bashing Democrats and whatnot. But I really think Trump is gonna win again, and that thought is just so unspeakably horrifying.

Yay for Chinese takeout night! Sounds like a good pattern.

  13. Haha I love that 'dancing' Godzilla giff! 😍 With all the craziness you are going through over there, I am so pleased you are still enjoying the walking and ambience videos, and that you are finding comfort in your blogging friends. 😊 Take care, stay safe and happy reading in the coming week.

  14. I like the new Friday night Chinese takeout tradition. :) I know what you mean about Facebook because my feed is the same. I'm not on FB a lot (thankfully) but when I am it's a reminder that apparently my extended family and a lot of acquaintances have drank the Trump Kool-Aid. A lot. *sigh*

  15. Ugh. So much plain old fascism resurfacing (I see it in my corner of the world as well, of course...especially since the darn thing was born here). But those Biden signs are a breath of fresh air. I really hope that a change is coming! Have a great week!

Hope you have a great week and the new blogger behaves itself. :)

  18. Chinese takeout does sound wonderful. I should try that, since it has been ages since I had any. We can order takeout food here...and I also order groceries from Instacart weekly. A tiny bit of normalcy.

I try to stay away from FB when the nutters are out. Mostly my timeline has anti-Trump stuff...because I spent time blocking and unfriending some people. LOL

    Enjoy your week.

  19. Well, I only use FB to take care of my blog posts. But my private FB account? Well ... *lol* All I can say to the political situation is, that I hope that the US does not give this man a second term in office. The new blogger has changed many things. I hear that Google has a very long list of issues and bugs that need to be fixed. At least I know now how to create my posts there so that at least some things look the way I want them to look. Have a wonderful new week and happy reading.

  20. I definitely find my circle of blog friends to be comforting in these tough times. It's nice to check it with others and see how everyone's doing. takeout on Friday night sounds like a fun routine.

I like watching walking tours on Youtube, but with some I get a bit nauseousness when watching them due to the walking motion, not sure why. I don't have it with every video. I'll have to check out one of the video's you shared here to see if I like them.

I hope using the new blogger gets easier over time. I dislike it when things change as it always takes time to get used to the new thing. Have a great week!

  21. I have literally hide all my republican friends that just don't seem to get what is happening. I know everyone has their opinion but I just can't even stomach how they still go with everything that is going on. I will stick to just looking at recipes and bookish stuff. Only reason I keep FB anymore is for the COYER group.

I can't believe Blogger and WP did the same thing with the html stuff. How frustrating for those that don't understand and just wanted to post fun stuff.

I hope you have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  22. This year is so, so weird!
And I totally get you with the Twitter / FB feeds. Mine are the same, and I've had to resort to muting folks on FB - I just can't anymore (and I'm not even in the US!)
I think my normalcy is the fact that I can go to work, see my students, and also participate in making some parts of their lives more normal, too. I haven't been blogging or visiting much lately, as I think confinement made me too used to the quiet of my home. Seeing so many students, my colleagues and such every day makes me want to stay at home whenever I can. And I don't feel like being very social.
Have a wonderful week ahead, Greg.

  23. 2020 just needs to resign early. I just want this year to end and have 2021 be normal again. You are sooo right, checking in with blogger friends helps so, so much. I know the internet isn't always a friendly place, but blog hopping and seeing everyone I call friends from all over the world helps a ton.

The new Blogger is just horrible. So much so that after I couldn't change back to the old interface I just jumped ship. I'm very sorry, but I just couldn't take all the changes, so I just changed it altogether and went to wordpress lol
    Have a fantastic week!! <3

  24. Godzilla Greg??? Well at least 2020 would be amazing LOL And I am crossing all my fingers for your elections but ...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Godzilla might be welcome at this point. I saw a funny meme a while back that said it feels like time travel might be real and someone keeps coming back in time trying to save us, but then their change makes something even worse happen, because how else do you explain that the murder hornets just disappeared? lol, accurate, I think!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hey, if Godzilla wants to come I hope he stomps his way through my neighborhood first. I'm so done with this year.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Getting adjusted to a new editor is a struggle for sure. I know I have been dealing with it for Wordpress, hopefully you will get used to it soon and easily. Sometimes when they want something easier, they make it more difficult.

I have a feeling though next year won't be better than next year, just trying to stay as positive and happy as I can be, knowing that life may not return to calm and peaceful.

    Blessings to you.

  29. If Godzilla does appear I had nothing to do with it! I’m trying to avoid the news, with everything going in here in the UK it’s depressing, more people getting stabbed in France then all the stuff going on over your side of the pond it’s just hellish.

Hope your Chinese was good, have a safe and happy week!

  30. We still haven't found a good Chinese place here in Memphis and I miss it! We've found great BBQ (of course that was pretty easy) and finally found a couple of Italian places we like and we have pizzas, burgers, and tacos covered but no Chinese! I only use Facebook for my son's update page. I have a profile but it causes too much stress so I just avoid it now unless I'm updating his page!

  31. OMG, my Facebook and Twitter are exactly the same! I assumed it was because I use the sites for different things. My Twitter feed is my bookish online friends. My Facebook is for people I know in real life. I’ve always lived in “red” areas. There’s only 1 Biden sign in my neighborhood. My Facebook feed is Bible quotes, blatant racism + denials that racism exists, and easily disproven lies about Nancy Pelosi. My Twitter doesn’t have any of that. It’s wild to flip between the two of them.

  33. Ugggh...glad I'm not the only one who thinks that 2020 has been a pretty bad year so far. I'm just so stressed out by everything that's happened. Let's hope things are better in 2021.

  34. I do hope things settle in the USA, very disturbing from where I sit and see it all on TV news. I know, will he, won't he! We gotta wait. I just hope that you'll get Biden - even though I'd think someone younger would have been better, although I like him. I like visiting the blogs because its where we meet up with the real good people from each country. Take care.

  35. My rule on Friday is to never cook(lol), so I usually find something cool to eat to watch with a new Netflix release or one from the long list. I see so many comments about politics on Facebook and Twitter, but some are becoming increasingly dangerous and quite mean-spirited in nature. That's the part I can definitely do without. Sure hope you're doing well, and I agree - checking in with others definitely helps. Hugs, RO

  36. Friday’s are ‘leftover’ days for us since I grocery shop on Saturday, failing leftovers, it’s cereal or toast :)
I’ve muted or defriended quite a few people on Facebook this year, I’m totally unwilling to put up with covid conspiracists and trump cultists. I might live outside the US but it matters to me who your president is since there are global implications, and frankly anyone is better than Trump.

Wishing you a great reading week

  37. The new Blogger has decreased my blogging -- everything takes soooo much longer to put together. Also lockdown has drained my enthusiasm. But I know what you mean about staying connected; I really need to keep up on my blog hopping too. Love Time and Space ... but maybe because it's everyone's life right now. LOL

  39. I've sent in my absentee ballot and really don't want to watch or hear about any more political stuff - though I plan to at least watch a bit of the debate tomorrow night. I don't know how much Trump I can stand to hear. Minnesota is generally blue but my part seems to be turning a bit redder. Both Biden and Trump have made appearances here in Duluth this election cycle. I prefer concentrating on reading escapist fiction and watching baseball. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  40. I live in a blue state and still seeing Biden signs around here is tough. So many people put them out and then Trumpers steal them or destroy them. It's stupid. Like that's going to change anyone's mind. It just makes the moderate and liberal people hate them more. Anyway, I love that you share so many Japan walking tours! They're my favorite, of course, because they remind me of my time walking around Japan. I hope to get back there next year.

    ReplyDelete
  41. My Facebook feed is pretty even politically. I made an Asian style mushroom soup on Friday.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm sorry that the new Blogger is such a pain, I hope the development works it out soon.

This country really is a tale of two cities. I've removed anyone from my life that's been very vocal about being Trumpy so I mostly see hesitant optimism on my social media. It's super stressful.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I saw an article about a Gundam robot in Japan that can move and is 59 feet tall. In 2020, that seems like a recipe for disaster..

    ReplyDelete
  44. That's so funny you say that about facebook vs. twitter. I feel the same way and have unfriended quite a few people on Facebook just because I can't deal with their uninformed views anymore. That's pretty cool about seeing Biden signs in a predominantly red area. Saturday night someone went around our neighborhood tearing up people's Biden signs and stuffing them in their driveway culverts. I don't think they got what they wanted though because when I walked my dog this morning, I noticed even more people had put out Biden signs and several neighbors had written BIDEN/HARRIS in huge chalk letters on their driveways, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I live in more of a rural conservative area and I've been noticing more Biden signs recently as well.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Well you know how I feel about Facebook in general, and how I ruthlessly axed everyone I even suspected of having voted for Tr*mp in 2016, so. While I may never go on the hellsite, I certainly won't be seeing any crappiness! Twitter is definitely Biden territory, but again, that is because I won't follow anyone who is a supporter of the other side.

Interesting about your neighborhood. Mine is... bananas. So, like Michigan, PA is a notorious swing state, and my county is a notorious swing county (and also now notorious for trying to mess up the election by throwing away ballots so that Assface has "proof" that the election is rigged, but that's a topic for another time). And it is NUTS in here. I live in a townhouse development with 99 units. I swear, they are split right down the middle. I have my Biden signs and Biden flag of course, and many others do, but then there are a bunch of shitheads too! And my mom's development is exactly the same! It's seriously intense- I need to take a picture because there is one group of houses who are straight up in a battle of who can put up more signs, it's seriously out of hand.

Frankly, I will take Godzilla. Better than humans being awful to humans. ALSO I am still really jealous of this Chinese takeout. I need to find a place around here. And then like, order it. Sorry about Blogger, too. That is so rude.

  47. I've had to set a timer for Facebook. North Carolina is fairly purple but my particular area is weird (Yes, I'm in Oregon for my husband's job but NC is still home). The city is really liberal but the surrounding county is really Republican. I'm a county girl, so most of my friends and family are all in for Trump. It gets discouraging when people you know and otherwise respect are buying into the BS.

Debnance mentioned recently that her neighborhood in Texas has some Biden signs for the first time too. Maybe there's hope!

    Enjoy your week!

  48. Love the walking tours in Japan as I want to visit there someday. Just curious have you been?

  49. I lived in a super conservative part of FL and I remember the year Obama was running there were actually people brave enough to go out with signs and he won. The year Hillary ran - nothing. But apparently this year I hear there are Biden supporters so take that as you will.

It's a mixed bag where I live in WA so I can't tell lol I can't even go on FB because I learn things about people that I don't want to know but I also mute quite a bit on Twitter too.

My husband keeps saying we need a pulse to knock out the internet and start over. As much as that freaks me out he may be right.

And I've been bad at blogging/commenting lately but I agree - it really helps boost my spirits and keep me from drowning mentally.
