Sunday Post #83
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.
This has been a good week, although reading time has been mixed. It's been COLD, a good time to curl up with a book and a hot chocolate or a nice latte. The big news this week was a performance by The Real Group at our local arts venue. If you're not familiar with the Real Group, they're a quintet of a cappella singers from Stockholm. They were fabulous.

I've heard of The Happy Hollisters but I don't think I've read any of the books. I look forward to seeing what you think of them. I'm also looking forward to your thoughts on The Girl on the Train. I haven't gotten my hand on a copy yet so I'm living vicariously through everyone until I do. The Real Group sounds fantastic! What a great experience. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI have not read any of the HH, so it will be a new experience. I have to say that cover was a large part of me wanting to try them- just that beach scene kinda puled me in. I'm looking forward to trying them.
DeleteThe Real Group were great, they performed at our arts place which is new, and it was a great experience to see them. A cappella singing is so cool anywa.
Hope you enjoyed the heat wave we experienced today :). It was nice to be in the 20's! Look forward to your thoughts on The Girl on the Train.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice, not to toally freez ! Hope you are have a good weekend!!!
DeleteI look forward to reading your thoughts on The Girl on the Train. I recently attended an author event/signing with author Paula Hawkins at a local bookstore and bought a copy of The Girl on the Train, which I had Hawkins sign.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to reading The Girl on the Train soon.
I've never read any of The Hardy Boys books, I've certainly heard of them though. Blue you enjoy them and the rat of your new books.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week Greg. :-)
Trixie Belden..oh read those in elementary school and enjoyed them. Loved the Real Group rendition of Silent Night. I hope you enjoy Girl on a Train!
ReplyDeleteI liked those too as a kid... and it'll be fun to revisit them I think. The RG were nice to see...
DeleteThe Real Group was wonderful. So glad you got to hear them in person. So glad you're enjoying The Hardy Boys and other childhood favorites. I love the covers of these books. I haven't read any of The Happy Hollisters, but that cover is great. Have a great week, Greg!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jan. I did enjoy the Real Group, it was nice to see them live.
DeleteA trip into the books from childhood is a good way to get one's mind off the cold weather. Nothing like a little nostalgia to warm the soul.
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday post: http://www.bookclublibrarian.com/2015/02/weekly-book-recap-99.html
I agree! I have been indulging in nostalgia of late- I had no idea I would want to keep going with the HB books... or expand it at all. It's been fun... and I hope you have a great week.
DeleteThe old covers are just great! Would be fun to take all those covers and make a poster to hang :) Glad you are enjoying them all. How are you able to find them? Didn't think most would be in print anymore.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!
I read a book about a family that drove cross country and slept in their car and then they went to Europe and saw the Mermaid statue in Copenhagen and discovered a mystery involving garden gnomes. It is weird what I recall from the books I read frty-five years ago.
ReplyDeleteOh, I am wrapped up in nostalgia thinking of The Hardy Boys books and Trixie Belden. It has been eons, of course, so I'm eager to read your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI am also eagerly awaiting your thoughts on The Girl on the Train. Thanks for visiting my blog, and happy reading.
I'm enjoying the nostalgia too, it's been a lot of fun.
DeleteOh, I loved the Happy Hollisters. I collect their books too. I liked them better than the Bobbsey Twins.
ReplyDeleteHey that is one stellar music group! The first I'm hearing from them, but WOW. Completely stunned. :) I've heard much good things about The Girl on the Train. Perhaps I'll have to find myself a copy. :D
ReplyDeleteI used to love the Hardy Boys (and Nancy Drew, too). I've heard so much about The Girl on the Train. I need to read that one. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt is good you were able to enjoy some time out of the house. The Real Group sounds amazing!
ReplyDeleteI really want to read The Girl on the Train so I'll look out for your review. I hope you liked it. Have a great week!
I can't wait to read your review about the book The Girl on the Train. I keep seeing it pop up everywhere so I am curious if it is going to be for me or not? I am about to go and get some hot chocolate thanks to your post!
ReplyDeleteYay for hot chocolate! I might have to have some tonight as well. :)
DeleteI read some of The Happy Hollisters book but remember very little about them. Have you ever read The Three Investigators? They were good too.
ReplyDeleteStay warm and have a great week!
I really feel sorry for all you who are in the extreme freeze..it was 22 today and I thought I was going to die..and you think it's a heat wave...lol. :) Hope you enjoy all your new reads. :) I see you decided to pick up The Girl on the Train! :)
ReplyDeleteI left the house for the first time in 3 weeks this weekend. This is my first winter as a retiree, glad I don't have to get up and out this winter! Did you read Hardy Boys as a kid? I read all the Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, Robin Kane, etc. Loved those gangs of kids working together!
ReplyDeleteI've heard of Trixy but not the Happy Hollisters. I'm hoping it warms up, but it is nice to have a hot cup of coffee with me in the mornings when I'm reading at the store. I borrowed the audiobook of The Girl on the Train but I haven't started yet, so I'm not sure if I'm keeping it but it does sounds pretty good!
ReplyDeleteIt must be tough getting up early and going to work when all you want to do is kip down! Enjoy the books.
ReplyDeleteOh cool - I remember the Happy Hollisters - EnJOY!
ReplyDeleteand keep the hot choc and lattes coming - they're in high demand here too :)
While you still have some cold weather to go yet, chocolate and a good book is a good way to go!
ReplyDeleteI've not heard of The Happy Hollisters but the cover reminds me of a couple of Enid Blyton's Famous Five books which I also loved. Happy reading :)
ReplyDeleteHeya Greg. I haven't seen a cover like the Happy Hollisters in a long time. Looks like you're in the middle of your Hardy Boys stack. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely a cappella cover of Silent Night by this group. Thanks for introducing them. I also like the idea of sitting down with a hot beverage and a book. It rained today, which is quite the dramatic show for San Diego. Stay warm, and enjoy the rest of winter while it lasts.

Never heard of the Happy Hollisters, but I love a capella groups, my favorite weakness in this field is the Irish group Anuna, they're absolutely wonderful : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMydR6G0U4o
ReplyDeleteKeen to hear what you thought of The Girl on the Train and I have some series Trixie Belden envy.
ReplyDeleteWhen my (now 18yr old) niece was little I bought her some Trixie Belden but I'm not sure she read them. I must borrow them next time I'm there!

Yes! The cold just makes me want to snuggle up and read all day. If only those kids would take care of themselves! :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear what you think of The Girl on a Train.
I've seen Girl on a Train around a lot lately, and I hope you'll enjoy it, Greg! YAY for Trixie Belden. That sure would be a nostalgia read for me :)
ReplyDeleteI hope the weather will warm up a little bit, even if it is really nice to snuggle up inside with a good book and a hot beverage.
Have a great week ahead :)

I'm looking forward to your thoughts on The Girl on the Train. I really enjoyed it, but I didn't care much for the ending with the "villain monologue.
ReplyDeleteAn even better book, in a similar vein, is The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson. I just read it today, and I was pretty blown away. Like The Girl on the Train, it's got multiple narrators, unreliable narrator(s), lots of horrible characters (in a good way), but this ending is amazing.
