The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer
Another nice week, other than a bit of rain the weather has been nice. Lots of sun. I've been cruising through books to start off the summer and most of them have been pretty good, and I'm feeling like reading some fantasy- summer always puts me in the mood for that though. I'd like to read some urban fantasy as well.
Trust Issues Part 3 went up this week and it was nice to bring it to a place where I can continue the story, or move on to something else. It was intended to be an exercise in flash fiction and I never expected to do a part two or three, but it's been nice to get writing again. Maybe I'll share a fantasy story next. And Bookstore Spotlight may come back in July, if I can just get up north to visit a few.
I reviewed a fun novella Date Night on Union Station this week (and it's free on Amazon, although check first) and I received the book I won from the Goodreads giveaway. Tuesday I'll be discussing skinchanging and if it's bad in the context of the Game of Thrones books, and will be reviewing Exile for Dreamers as well. And I'll have a sign up post for the High Summer Read-a-thon coming up in July. And the usual thoughts on some show finales and various episodes.
And I'm listening to...

Another great recap Greg! Glad to hear the weather has been nice there, it's been really cold here. It's been kind of a quiet week for bookish news though, appreciate the star wars links!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope it warms up there, and glad you liked the links!
DeleteOur weather finally decided it was summer so the heat and the humidity have gone way up. I'd rather be cold than hot though so it works. Yay for bookstore spotlight! I hope that comes back. We are ready for the new Legend of Zelda game here. It looks like it should be a good one. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteYeah the heat is on the way, it was very humid here today too. I'm really looking forward to bringing Bookstore Spotlight back if I can just get to the stores and put it together!!
DeleteI love the look of that Zelda game! Never played one but do have a WiiU and need more games for it lol.
Wonderful recap as usual Greg^^ Glad to hear you got some sun, they kept promising us some but it never came out. 2 Saturdays in a row it was supposed to be nice all day and when I'd get off work, it'd start raining >.< HOWEVER, today is gorgeously sunny and I'm finished work in about 40 minutes so let's cross our fingers and hope I can enjoy it :D Happy weekend my friend! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you! Sorry to hear your weathers been crappy. :( Hope today stayed nice!! Hope your weekend is fabulous. :)
DeleteI am so far behind on 12 monkeys that I may just end up waiting until the season is fully open, see how the next week goes. Loved both pieces ofartwork
ReplyDeleteThank you, and I am loving 12 Monkeys lately. Hearing it may get canceled, I hope not. :O
DeleteAs always, you have a striking combination of videos, games and images to enjoy. I am out of my depth here, though, not being a viewer of any of these shows. I haven't even watched Star Wars since the original movie came out...way back in the day. LOL.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog. Enjoy your week.
I enjoy putting it together although it takes more and more time. And I know what you mean- there are so many shows now I can't keep track of em all! :)
DeleteYou have a great week too!!
YAY for The Invisible Library! I have that one as well, though I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to read it. Maybe next next week!
ReplyDeleteHave a fantastic week, Greg. =)
Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!
I'm loving your pulp fiction covers Greg... It reminds me of my childhood. Not that I read then but I remember seeing them and probably in my Uni holidays, seeing older books like that in second hand bookstores!
ReplyDeleteI've not watched 12 Monkeys (the show) but started iZombie recently and am loving it! I'm only part-way through s1 (and just watching it on free-to-air TV) but they're showing 2 episodes at a time so we're racing through season 1!
I do enjoy looking for them, some work better than others. :) And I also enjoy seeing old vintage books in used bookstores... I used to spend a lot of time in used bookstores especially in college but not so much.
DeleteReading fantasy and urban fantasy is actually something I feel like all year round :D I hope you'll find some good ones to keep you company this summer, Greg!
ReplyDeleteLove your weekly pulp cover :D
Have a wonderful week and happy reading!
Lexxie @ (un)Conventional Bookviews
I usually do but since I started book blogging I read so much stuff now I never did and it seems like my fantasy reads have taken a hit. I need to get back!
DeleteI'm looking forward to reading The Invisible Library and have had Date Night for a while. Moved it onto my summer reading challenge so I could get it off my TBR. Been binging on some Netflix shows as several have added new seasons. And doing a lot of reading. If only writing the reviews was as easy. LOL
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post
I know it. For me it's been reading and Netflix too. I liked Date Niht.
DeleteI'm glad you're enjoying the weather! Hope you can get to some bookstores - I always enjoy your Bookstore Spotlight posts. And I can't wait to see what you think of The Invisible Library. Have a great week!
ReplyDeletePS. I hope to get back to check out some of the videos but I'm on deadline and can't take time right now.
Thank you, I enjoyed the bookstore posts and it's been so long, I need to get back to those. And I totally understand, blogging and clicking on everything takes time and that's often in short supply!
DeleteThat's interesting that summer puts you in the mood for fantasy. I feel like it seems like it'd be the opposite, that summer would put people in the mood for lighter, contemporary... summery type books. Fantasy seems like a heavier genre. Then again, my reading moods never actually change with the season, so what do I know? Lol.
ReplyDeleteThat's great that the writing is going so well. I really should get back to writing, at least just pantsing some little stories, but I just haven't had it in me lately. But it's like a snowball effect, seems like it gets easier the more you do it and vice versa.
I don't even understand this pulp fiction cover, haha. They're so strange, who ever thought of those things?!
It does, for some reason. I love reading fantasy in the summer, I suspect it has to do with reading outside. Until I blogged I mainly just read fantasy... so I probably equate summer reading with that. Who knows?
DeleteMy writing comes and goes too. I'll go months without writing any stories then I get the impulse one day and crank stuff out. Trust issues was a pic- I just saw it and wanted a story about it. :) You should post some stuff...
Sometimes it's the taglines on those pulp books. That one... lol. Seriously? Who wrote those???
That pulp cover ... anatomy does not work that way. I find summer puts me in the mood for epic historical fiction for some reason. Have a great week. :)
ReplyDeleteFunny how summer reading is different for each of us, huh? I do sometimes change my reading taste depending on the season, although I don't think I used to. A new development? And yeah that cover is... off. I couldn't resist though after seeing the tagline...
DeleteHope you get to enjoy lots of Fantasy books Greg, the summer makes me want to read contemporary books, that are light and easy to read.
ReplyDeleteThe Invisible Library looks great!
Contemps are good too! :)
DeleteYay for nice weather! It has been pretty good here too. I love that everyone has their own idea of summer reads. For you fantasy and for me easy contemporary reads. Hope you get to a bunch of them over the summer. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGlad it's been nice there too. Contemps are nice over the summer, nothing too heavy and they do seem tailor made for summer. Have a great week too!
DeleteI usually prefer to read fantasy and mystery in the fall and winter months. I know that is when I first read The Lord of the Rings and A Game of Thrones and I'm pretty sure that's when I started Harry Potter too. In summer I make more time on my reading pile for contemporary "beach reads".
ReplyDeleteI have Exile for Dreamers on my TBR pile at the moment. I hope to read it soon but it will have to wait till after I get through my book discussion books.
I'm a bit worried about tonight's episode of Game of Thrones and the fates of some favorite characters. Two episodes left means some major deaths are likely on the way.
Hope you have a great week!
I'm with you on GoT, I think there might be some surprises tonight. I'm a little worried too! And I know what you mean about beach reads. It is nice to have something relaxing.
DeleteExile for Dreamers was good, I hope you like it. :)
I will be back around to catch Trust Issues! We have had nice weather here, too. The sunsets have been beautiful. Have a wonderful week and thanks for visiting my new feature. :)
ReplyDeleteI like your new feature. Great idea! And thank for reading Trust Issues- hope it doesn't disappoint. :)
DeleteThe weather is SOOOOO annoying. One minute its like living on the sun and the next it's like living underwater and then like living in alaska. This world really needs to make up it's mind. I'm getting confused and haven't put my winter clothes away yet because I'm scared it might snow. ;)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your Goodreads wins, I have only won twice and never won again. It's one of the hardest giveaways to win I think lol
I hope you have an amazing week, Greg! Happy Reading!!!
Thank you Michelle! You too. I was surprised frankly to win the GR giveaway- there were so many entries. And I hear you on the weather- although it's been hot here now and seems poised to stay that way. But until the last week or so it was all over the map here too.
DeleteI'm looking forward to your Bookstore Spotlights! Summer always puts me in the mood for some epic high fantasy. I started Age of Myth by Michael J. Sullivan and it is pretty good so far!
ReplyDeleteHurray for Goodreads Giveaways! It's a rare thing to win but I've gotten lucky quite a few times. :)
Have a great week, Greg!
Me too, I think I'm used to fantasy in the summer so my tastes just run that way when the nice weather arrives! And hopefully the bookstore posts will be up soon- I like visiting the bookstores and usually they like the attention too. :)
DeleteSummer does seem like the perfect time to read fantasy... wish I enjoyed it more. The Invisible Library looks good though. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteYou too JoAnn- hope your weekend is a good one!
DeleteIt sounds like you had a pretty good week! I love the covers that you share every week! Have you been to the bad book cover websites? They're so funny!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Weekly Recap!
No I haven't... I don't think. I'll be checking them out though- I'll google it. I'm always up for some bad covers... :)
DeleteI really need to check out 12 Monkeys, see if it's on NetFlix or Hulu. I'll definitely need to check out your Wednesday TV wrap up post. :) I hope you continue to have good weather, and have a good week.
ReplyDeleteHey Bea! Yes I hope you check out 12 Moneys- love that show! I don't think it's on Netflix though, but it is on Hulu- I think?? Great show- although I hesitate to say that because what if someone watches it and thinks it sucks?? Ha ha
DeleteBah! I'm so sick of the weather! It started out nice this morning, but has now reverted to windy and chilly. It certainly doesn't feel like June. Still, I've your pulp cover to cheer me up - I love the fact that despite her being an underwater predator, there is NOTHING streamlined about her shape:). Have a great week watching and reading.
ReplyDeleteThis is my Sunday Post - https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2016/06/19/sunday-post-19th-june/
I know, those covers. lol they are something arent they? Sorry to hear your weather is yucky, hopefully it improves. We've been hot all week maybe you can have some of that!
DeleteYay for bookstore spotlight returning! I'm always curious about other bookshops and even other people's bookshelves.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering about flash fiction. Is it okay to just leave it unfinished with no conclusion or do writers try to wrap it up since they seem to start in random places in the plot. I really enjoyed your writing and look forward to more. It's whet my appetite to find a site online to give it a try. Do you do that too?
LOL- Death Deep Down, she doesn't look like a shark, she looks dead to me! Those covers, just wow, is all I can say of the genre.
Enjoy the week, Greg.
I'm hoping to get Bookstore Spotlight back up and running, it's been too long! And I think it's okay to leave flash fiction unfinished- to be honest I don't know all the rules (if there are any) but I saw somewhere that 1000 words is a good length. That's kinda what I was going for although I ran a little over that. It was just going to be a one off but I wanted to continue the story a bit.
DeleteI have not done anything online although I think people do at Wattpad. I know LaLa in the Library has a story there I've been wanting to go read...
We had similar weather here this week, sun and some rain. But as my boyfriend has hay fever the rain was welcome.
ReplyDeleteOh I didn't realize Trust Issues was flash fiction you wrote. Once I have time I'll have to go back to part 1 and read them all. That's exciting you're writing!
I've played some of the Zelda games, but never got far. My english wasn't good enough back then to fully follow the story and hints and with all the puzzles it could be hard to figure out what to do when you don't fully understand everything. They were fun though.
I hope you'll have a great week!
Thanks Lola. I've never played Zelda but after seeing that game trailer I definitely want to get it! Plus there aren't enough games for the WiiU anyway so I'll definitely get it...
DeleteAs you know I haven't finished a Zelda game yet properly but already I am in love with this new one, it'll be a sad day if they every stop exploring Hyrule and everywhere else.
ReplyDeleteI've never played Zelda but I want to try this one!
DeleteThanks for the heads up for Date Night on Union Station. I went over to Amazon and it was still free, so I got it. Who knows when I'll have a chance to read it though. It looks good. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI hope you like it if you get to it.
DeleteI am trying to decide if I'm going to read The Invisible Library or not. The consensus seems to be that the narrator isn't great, so I'll need to actually "read" it. I'll be watching for your review.
ReplyDeleteI'm just a little ways into it and so far so good. It's very imaginative...
DeleteI get reading moods too, hope you read some great fantasy books! :) Hopes it's not to hot there, it's still pretty hot here but not as bad as some places.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading!
Stormi
It's been muggy here but at least the sun is out.
DeleteI really enjoy Trust Issues, and am glad you trust us enough to share it with us. I have a copy of Date Night on Union Station thanks to you and am looking forward to reading it. I am looking forward to the second season of Dark Matter. I hope you have a great week, Greg!
ReplyDeleteThank you, I appreciate your reading it! And I hope you like Date Night- I had fun with it! :)
DeleteIt's great you are had a good reading week. I'm trying to read more fantasy books too. I showed my daughters the Star Wars EA videos. They are both interested in pursuing careers in the video game industry so it's really exciting to see that Sacramento helped with the game. I hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThat's exciting, good for them. Video games are so mainstream now, what an exciting career choice that would be! Glad that video had a bit of a local connection to you!!
DeleteAhhhhh! You saw the new Zelda game!! Amazing, right!? I'm blown away by all the pictures of the vendor's booths at e3 this year! You know what I can't wait for??? Pokemon Go! Battling in the wild! Bring in on!! But where do I get my gym badges?? :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!!!
Oh my gosh I want to dive into that game and explore... love all the scenery. I would go freakin crazy at E3 probably...
DeleteI'm glad you decided to make 3 installments of your flash fiction. I bookmarked the third one so I don't lose the link. I will read it when I have a free moment.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week!
I hope you enjoy! And yes 3 installments seemed to work better... I came it as flash fiction so didn't want it to get too wordy...
DeleteSo summer puts you in the mood for fantasy reading, that's good although winter seems to me to be good for that too. Good the weather has been okay for you.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a fantastic week Kathryn!!
DeleteI really need to get ahold of The Invisible Library. And, I have got to get ahold of the dvds of Game of Thrones so that I can catch up to everyone! Hope that you have a great week, thanks for stopping by my Sunday Post earlier!
ReplyDeleteThe Invisible Library is good so far. :)
DeleteSome gorgeous art there. I hope you enjoy your books this week, and I'll have to check out The Invisible Library.
ReplyDeleteMy It's Monday! What Are You Reading? post.
I'm liking The Invisible Library so far. Hope your week is going well. :)
DeleteNice recap!! I love that pulp cover there. :)
ReplyDeleteSome of those pulp covers are... interesting. Lol!
DeleteSounds like you got some good reading time this week. I’m so behind on my reading.. Hope to get some more reading done tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you can send some sun over here.. It’s been raining all day! Sigh..
Have a great week and happy reading!
Hope it gets nice there! We've been muggy here...
DeleteQuite the week! Our weather here in the UK has been terrible... Rain, rain and more rain. Summer has just arrived and I hope that the weather picks up soon!
ReplyDeleteLove the pulp cover!
I only started signing up for read-a-thons this year within the bookish community, but I love them! I hope you have a lot of fun with your upcoming read-a-thon. Happy reading!
I did that readathon once before and it was fun and relaxed. Plus it's not til next so I have some time to prepare. :) Hope your weather improves...
DeleteAnother summer will go by and we won't get Up North either. It just won't work into the schedule. I hope you are able to get to go. The pulp cover are so unique and interesting, I wonder if the story lives up to the cover.
ReplyDeleteI wonder about those sometimes... I don't think I could read one but they're sure fun to find with those interesting covers! I'm hoping to get up north, trying for July but we'll see what happens...
DeleteWe are trying hard to get up north this year! Not sure it is going to happen though darn it. Hopefully you do, or Nise! Somehow it doesn't seem like summer in Michigan without heading north.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is listening to the Mistborn series and loves it, although the books are chunksters. He's a big fantasy fan as well.
Same here, hopefully July. I need to get to Traverse! And you're right, it's not summer without heading up north.
DeleteI'm thinking of trying Sanderson at some point, I've heard so much.
I'm enjoying Stellardrone while I write this. :-) I have Date Night on Union Station in my Kindle library so I may pull that onto the TBRSTL (TBR sooner than later) list.
ReplyDeleteThe Invisible Library sound like a fun time travel - I am such a sucker for books that involve books, bookstores, libraries, book clubs, etc.
Hope you find a urban fantasy to enjoy and have a great week.
Okay, I watched the 1st 12 Monkeys episode but wasn't quite pulled in. I'm totally going to giveit a couple more episodes though. Heck yeah for fantasy and UF! :D
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the new Zelda game...I absolutely adore those games, and this one is so different from the previous ones and I'm excited to see how the changes they made fit with the overall feel of the franchise. And all thr Star Wars stuff has me geeking out as well! Combine that with all the Harry Potter stuff coming out this year and you're looking at one seriously broke nerd over here. I hope you have an awesome week Greg!
ReplyDeleteI just picked up a copy of The Invisible Library - I can't wait to dive it! And, I'd like to try 12 Monkeys.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any fantasy in a couple of months... I think I need to get some, or some paranormal! Hop you had a great week!
ReplyDelete
