This week I'm looking at Promises, Promises by Naked Eyes. How cool is that name, by the way? 80's bands had the best names. :) Anyway- this song is clearly all about loss, broken promises, lies- love gone wrong, basically. The details don't matter, because most of us have been there, right? Things didn't work out. Anyway, it's a great 80's song.
So what do you think?
Lyrics
Never had a doubt
In the beginning
Never a doubt
Trusted too true
In the beginning
I loved you right through
Arm in arm we laughed like kids
At all the silly things we did
You made me promises promises
Knowing I'd believe
Promises promises
You knew you'd never keep
Second time around
I'm still believing words that you said
You said you'd always be here
"In love forever"
Still repeats in my head
You can't finish what you start
If this is love it breaks my heart
You made me promises promises
You knew you'd never keep
Promises promises
Why do I believe
Arm in arm we laughed like kids
At all the silly things we did
You can't finish what you start
If this is love it breaks my heart
You made me promises promises
You knew you'd never keep
Promises promises
Why do I believe
All of your promises
You knew you'd never keep
Promises promises
Why do I believe
Promises
Promises
Promises
Promises
Promises
Loved this one! And, coincidentally, Always Something There to Remind Me is my pick for next Sunday's post. :) I wish they had been better received... I really liked their music.
ReplyDeleteAn 80's classic. I'm definitely putting some 80's tunes on today at work, right after I get my fill of Adam Lambert which is on rotation on Amazon music right now.
ReplyDeleteYou always post the best songs/lyrics!
ReplyDeleteI forget how many good songs Naked Eyes sang. This definitely a standout, and when they crooned "why do I believeeeeee", you knew he had a broken heart.
