This week we are looking at novellas/ short stories. And since it's my blog and I'll cheat if I want to I'm gonna include both novellas and comics/ graphic novels. So I'll be showing off a few of my favorite short stories and a few favorite GN's as well. And let me know in the comments what your favorites are!
Probably my favorite short novel. It's only a bit over one hundred pages but packs so much story in those pages- love, betrayal, acceptance.
The first Murderbot
The second Murderbot lol- as good as the first!
The third Murderbot- which is not out yet but I'm calling it.
My favorite Tintin.
The Cave of Time- but really the whole Choose Your Own Adventure series because cool idea.
Alex and Ada
The Mutant Massacre may be my favorite X-Men story. Marauders set out to exterminate mutants living in the tunnels under NYC, and when the X-Men intervene there are casualties on both sides. This event changed character arcs and story directions for years.
Thunderbolts Ultimate Collection. Dark and crazy at times, this might be my favorite graphic novel to recommend. Villains posing as heroes, half the team are psychotic or just warped, and it's hilarious too.
This series is a trip.
The X-Men in the Savage Land collected here.
My favorite Winter Soldier story. Bucky spends Christmas thinking back on the things he's done, making some new acquaintances, and revisiting an old friend.
The Three Queen series! I've heared of it. I'm considering checking the series out, is it worth it?

Yes you should definitely try it!!!
DeleteOMG I used to love The Cave of Time lol haven't read any of the others but great post!
ReplyDeleteI used to love those even some of them weren't very good :)
DeleteOOh nice ones! Lots of new to me ones too! I still haven't read the second Three Dark Crowns books let alone decide if I want to read the novellas. I struggled with the first book for some reason and the fact that everyone loved it makes me wonder what I missed.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
The second book was better... I think more action? I definitely liked it more!!
DeleteI don't normally read novellas, but the TDC ones have been really great. Lots of good intel from those, which are really shaping my ideas about what is to come in that series.
ReplyDeleteI agree! And yes they are starting to feel essential?
DeleteTintin! I know that cover so well! Alex and Ada look very intriguing!
ReplyDeleteYay for Tintin!!!
DeleteThe Choose Your Own Adventure series was one I just adored when I was younger. So much fun!
ReplyDeleteI agree, I loved the concept of those (even if the execution ws sometmes, um, lacking).
DeleteI would almost read The Young Queens and The Oracle Queen just to get more information about that series and the world, because I felt the world-building was so lacking!
ReplyDeleteYou should, it adds a lot of depth.
DeleteI love that you mixed your list up. I have the first Murderbot on hold at my library right now because I've heard so much about it lately. I also love the winter soldier.
ReplyDeleteI think you'll like Murderbot. And that Winter Soldier is SO good!
DeleteI'm realizing while going through other peoples TTT that I have not read very many novellas lol.
ReplyDeleteSo with that being said... I haven't read any of these.
Great list though! Some interesting ones on there.
Here's our TTT: http://jennreneeread.blogspot.com/2018/07/top-ten-tuesday-novellas.html
Thanks, I've read a few more than I realized, but yeah I haven't read a ton either...
DeleteI picked up the second Murderbot book at ALA and it's so short that I hope to read it this weekend.
ReplyDeleteKaren @ For What It's Worth
Oh I hope you like!
DeleteMmm haven't heard of most of these. I do like how novellas can give you more info on a world of a book you enjoy. I almost feel like that is what A Closed and Common Orbit is to A Long Way to an Angry Planet. have a great week.
ReplyDeleteI like that too. The TDC ones have a TON of info. I'd love to see Chambers go that route...
DeleteI have an e-book copy of All Systems Red! It was free somewhere one day and I downloaded it on a whim. I guess that's a good thing if it made your list.
ReplyDeleteL @ Do You Dog-ear?
Oh m y gosh you must READ!!!
DeleteTintin is always a great choice!
ReplyDeleteI agree!!!!!!!
DeleteGraphic novels is a great way to spin the topic, especially since many of them are on the shorter end. Still haven't read Kendare's series, but it sounds dark... and interesting. I get 'Huntsman' (the movie) vibes from those books. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland, Greg.
I thought so. Saved my bacon since I had limited novelas to work with... :)
DeleteI didn't realize Planet of Exile was novella length. I'll have to see if the library has it online. I should be reading the first Murderbot soon. ☺
ReplyDeleteI guess it is? It's like 128 pages which I suppose is novella length these days- I'm not entirely sure??
DeleteYeah, I would consider that novella length. I am sure to read Exile sooner now. 👍
DeleteI've not read any of these but I have seen Martha Well's books and they might be something I want to read, will check it out sometimes
ReplyDeletehave a lovely day.
I really like Martha Wells.
DeleteI've grabbed the Three Dark Crown book 1 before but still haven't read it. I really need to get to it
ReplyDeleteI hope you like it, I think they're quite good!
DeleteI'm really dying to get to the Murderbot Diaries! I'm glad to see that book 2 is a good as book 1 :)
ReplyDeleteIt was! You really need to read these :)
DeleteI have the first book in the Murderbot Diaries and really need to read it. It sounds so good.
ReplyDeleteOh you should- I push it on everybody!!!!!!!!
DeleteLove Choose Your Own Adventures. The Planet of Exile looks good and I would give those Martha Wells a go.
ReplyDeleteI wish there were some good current CYOA's,,,
DeleteI've heard mixed things about the Three Queens series, but I am still interested in reading it. Great list!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT: Marie @ Pages to Explore
It does get mixed but I really like it, I hope you get a chance to try!
DeleteLOL, go ahead and cheat if you want to! I love the covers on Wells books!
ReplyDeleteHa ha right?
DeleteI’m not a fan of short stories and novellas but if GNs count then I’m in. ;)
ReplyDeleteGN's are awesome!!!!
DeleteMy husband loves Tin Tin too. I keep hearing great things about Murderbot. I need to check those out.
ReplyDeleteI used to love the Choose Your Own Adventure stories as a kid! I would put book marks in all the places where I would have to make a choice and then read until my chosen path played out and then go back and see what happened with different choices. Fun memories! Here is our Top Ten Tuesday
ReplyDeleteI've heard really good things about the Three Dark Crowns novellas. Nice list!
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I loved Choose Your Own Adventure books as a kid. I wonder if they have them for adults? I need to Google that.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I really need to read Queens of Fennbirn. Maybe I'll read the one I have but... no, no I won't, I need the one that matches my other books. Definitely agree with Alex + Ada. Also definitely agree with adding graphic novels in general because why not? Love that you added Murderbot 3- might as well have added 4 while you were at it hahah. Planet of Exile sounds quite good, too. I'll have to check that one out! Great choices!
ReplyDeleteThe choose your own adventure series are always fun to read!!
ReplyDeleteI used to read and review novellas all the time, but these days, they can't quite keep my attention. Glad you found these were great though! Hugs...RO
ReplyDeleteAAHH, Choose Your Own Adventure! Good call, I loved those!
ReplyDeleteHeck yes, Murderbot belongs on this list! I really should have featured Artificial Condition along with All Systems Red now that I think back. And oh, I can't believe I forgot to put Le Guin on my list too, I read an anthology of hers which had some awesome stories.
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
I haven't read anything but Ursula Le Guin yet, although I've heard really fantastic things! I do own Left Hand of Darkness but that isn't a short story...
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, GNs are pretty short ;-) I love that you included a book that's not even out yet lol.
ReplyDeleteOlder X-Men are always a good choice. :) I also love Tintin and Red Rackham's Treasure is one of the best.
ReplyDeleteGreat to know that the Murderbot series continues well.
I think I might need to try these Murderbot books as I'm seeing them everywhere!
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to read Ursula LeGuin! I tried one of her novels a while back and just couldn't get into it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these, but all the Martha Wells books seem right up my alley! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI need to pick up Alex + Ada one of these days... :)
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to get to the murderbot series for awhile.
ReplyDeleteI love Choose Your Own Adventure! Or I did as a kid, at least. My boy is reading a couple right now.
ReplyDeleteAhhhh Bucky! Love him! And love those covers for the Three Dark Crowns series.
