Well it's mid- July already. Is anyone else shocked? Remember when summer used to last forever? Clearly it doesn't anymore. It's been hot too. I'm kinda looking forward to fall already, with cooler temps and changing leaves. I need that bite in the air, cider and doughnuts, a harvest moon and pumpkins...

I'm still reading Blackfish City- that one's been kind of a slog. Not a bad book but just not super exciting, you know? I should finish it this weekend, and then return to either The Lies they Tell or Rachel Vincent's new one- which would you pick? I do have a read-a-long coming up for Record of a Spaceborn Few later this month or in August- whenever we get to it- with LaLa in the Library, Jo's Book Blog and A Dance With Books. Gonna be fun.

This week Movies That Suck featured The Guns of Navarone. This week will be Edge of Seventeen and I had a suggestion for Big Trouble in Little China, which I will happily accommodate! Plus the Sinbad movies are coming up. Life is goooood. Oh and my Nancy Drew/ Hardy Boys Tag is coming. And... since I haven't shared any writing in a while, I have a new flash fiction on the way, inspired by this image

  4. Yes summer is going by quickly. I am trying to enjoy it but I love fall so much I wouldn't mind it going fast! Hope you finish the slog of a book and get to something that moves quicker. Have a great week!

  5. I'm always going to be happy with Star Wars inspired pics. :D

Ah man, I don't know how to feel about Blackfish city now - That's been on my wishlist for months but I'm not sure I'll want to pick it up if it isn't that exciting. :P

Ohhh, I can't wait for Autumn. I haven't lived in a country that's had proper Autumn seasons for about 4 years so this is going to be so nice. :D

    1. Glad you liked those! I added them last minute :)

Blackfish City isn't BAD but it's just been very slow moving for me? But you may still enjoy it- it could just be me?

Yay for autumn! Hope you enjoy it this year!!

  8. I am very curious and excited by the Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys tag. I own both sets! It has been hot here too but I am not looking forward to fall because that means back to work lol. But I agree, pumpkins, cider, and the leaves are lovely.

    1. Do you? I hope you like the tag. I had all the Hardy Boys at one time and quite a few Nancy Drew's, but now I've only got a few of each. I even re- read a few a couple years ago...

  9. I like the cruise ship scene for Maggie's Murder Mystery. Would love to lounge on a cruise ride to tropical islands... someday. Have a great week.

  11. The Edge of Seventeen was very good and I'm really looking forward to seeing your thoughts on it. Also Big Trouble in Little China is like my favorite Kurt Russell movie - can't wait! :)

  12. Great images this week! And the Guns of Navaronne always makes me think of Pulp Fiction. Lol.

  13. I can't even tell you how many times I have seen Big Trouble in Little China. I don't think that is because I love the movie. It just seemed to be on a whole lot. This year is flying by isn't it! Have a great week!

  14. Our summers here last through September. I remember in Michigan we had winter coats on under our costumes for Halloween. Here we're still in shorts and t-shirts. Love the nod to Michigan. Those ship pics make me think of the ferry we took to cross the great lakes and to go to Mackinac Island.

  15. I'm curious about The Lies They Tell...and I enjoyed the movie The Edge of Seventeen...except I didn't like Kyra Sedgwick's character, but I always enjoy her.

Have a great week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  16. How long IS Blackfish City anyway? Hmm Goodreads says not that long, which is good, since it isn't going great. (Also, impressed that you actually are listed as reading it on Goodreads hah) Seems like lots of readers say that the second half is much better so... fingers crossed? You should read The Lies They Tell next because it's a different genre, and Strange New World is a little too close to the same as Blackfish City.

As usual, I've not heard of any of the movies haha. And Idk about fall. Like- did I love hiking through the damn woods and the park in 93° weather today? Very, very not. But fall means snow and I cannot. I will never be ready, it's so gross and inconvenient!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I completely agree: summer is somehow halfway done already and I don't even know what happened! I NEED MORE TIME FOR READING!!! (basically my inner monologue when panicking about the size of my review pile...) Anyway, I'm really interested to hear your thoughts on Strange New World. I've been hearing conflicting opinions so I'm not yet decided if I really want to read it or not. The cover snob in me is SO attracted to that cover (the aesthetics!!) so I may end up giving in and reading it just because of that (it's an awful reason, I know). I hope you have a great week, Greg!

    1. I love that cover of Strange New World- it definitely makes me want to read it! Plus the first one wasn't bad. I keep going back and forth with that one and The Lies They Tell as my next one. :) But I'm a total cover snob too!

  18. What do you mean by flash fiction? If it's what I think it is then I wouldn't mind reading what you wrote.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Flash fiction (as I understand it) is just really short fiction- like in the neighborhood of 1,000 words, more or less- although I see some that say it's even shorter and others say a little longer. Basically a very short short story. lol and hopefully the story will be up soonish!

  21. I remember being in school and feeling like summer breaks lasted forever, but now entire years go by in a blink. I can't believe my kids are as old as they are, and that I'm nearly 30 myself. It's insane how quickly time passes the older you get!

  23. Lake Michigan Beach looks pretty amazing, but I'd sure prefer to see it during the Winter months Gorgeous Greg.(lol) In fact, I'm almost ready to pay someone to mail me some snow from Switzerland or Siberia to cool things off here in NC.(lol) I agree, it just seems like the year has been flying by, but August(my birthday month) is whole lot closer so I can get all my restaurant freebies. Hope your Sunday is amazing! Hugs...RO

  26. It has been very hot but at the same time I am not looking forward to winter but a cool down would be nice. You should read The Lies They Tell as I have that one and need to get to it so want to know if it's good...lol.

Yay! Big Trouble in Little China can't wait for you to do that one...lol.

  33. Fall is my favorite time of year, so even though I'm enjoying summer, I will be so happy once fall gets here. Ooh, I look forward to reading your commentary on Big Trouble in Little China. I remember enjoying that one when it first came out. Curious to see how it holds up over time.

  34. I'd go with the Rachel Vincent one. Fall is my favorite but I'm not ready to lose the lazy heat of summer. I just stay in and read or quilt or knit if it's too humid. Anne - Books of My Heart

  35. That's too bad on Blackfish City. And gah, yes. Please let us have some Fall. lol

  36. I'm in total agreement with you on the need for some autumnal weather! Sadly, down here it won't arrive for another 3-4 months, so I'm stuck wishing for the time being. Hope you have a great week Greg :)

  37. Summer is going way too fast, but I do prefer cooler weather to the hot and humid we've been getting. Although I like cooler weather, I do love the summer pictures you posted. Very nice. Hope you have a great week!

  38. Greg beautiful artwork as usual, some really amazing ones this week.

While I'm really interested to hear your thoughts on The Lies They Tell I think you should read Rachel Vincent's have you read the first book? I have added this to my forever growing TBR pile when you first posted it.

  39. Noooo the cold lasted for so long that I'm glad to finally have the heat and don't want it to go away yet lol. I feel like I've had a lot of books like that this year, ones that weren't bad but weren't really gripping either. Better than bad books, I guess?

  40. I’m always ready for fall. I don’t like being hot. That werewolf drawing is awesome. He’s not doing a good job of blending in with the normal wolves. Have a great week!

  42. That Star Wars art!!! I don't mind the heat of Summer, mostly because I despise being cold and I hate rain which is all our Autumn weather is here. Of course our summers have become increasingly rain with each year as well. I miss the Summers of my youth, where it didn't try to cook you or drown you, lol.

I hope you have a great week!
