Happy New Year! Wow- the first Sunday post of 2019. Crazy huh? I hope everybody had a fun and festive start to the new year! I was thinking a week or so ago that 2019 was the year that Blade Runner was set in- and that got me thinking about where we are today. That was the subject of a post last week- and again it would be weird to watch Blade Runner now that it is 2019.

Sign ups are ongoing for The Bookish Games BYOC (Bring Your Own Character) edition. I think I have to sit this one out but if you've ever wanted to play- now might be the time! UPDATED okay I guess sign ups are over on the 5th. I'm doing the Spectator Chat this time due to the time requirements but looking forward to all the craziness.

Movies That Suck will return with One Million Years BC! Probably later in January. And this was a big week on the blog- I posted an End of the Year tag, a Favorite Posts of 2018 and a peek at 2019- Where's The Dystopia?

  1. I hope you're having a good new year so far! It doesn't seem possible that this is the year Blade Runner is set... huh!

  2. Wow, I really like this artist. Interestingly enough, I have a picture I took of my husband that looks exactly like "White Mountain Path", though less fantastical of course! But the layout is the same, with the silhouette of the lone figure in the distance flanked by tall trees. It's one of my favorite photos.

    1. I love some of his stuff. And that is awesome! I love the look of white Mountain, with the water in the middle of the path, the pebbles, and the kicker is the white citadel or whatever on the mountain peak!

  6. The festive period is pretty much the same as any other day of the year for us so it wasn't anything special. I reckon I have a viral infection or stomach flu as I've been feeling crap since January 1st! Typical!

  10. It's sort of odd when we are finally at that year, which was supposed to be all futuristic per some older movie. 2001? That year did not live up to the hype. And McFly's 2015 was nothing like ours. --sigh--

  11. It's always so weird to see movies that take place in the "future" with all the tech that people in the past thought we would have by now. I think the funniest one for me was when I watched Back to the Future. One day we will have our hover crafts. ONE DAY!

  12. Haha, I still need to watch the Blade Runner sequel and I was thinking it would be weird to watch the first one this year as well.
As always, love the artwork! Especially when the Northern lights are included! Would love to see them in real life someday.

  13. Cold Night Meet is so gorgeous. I always love the art you feature. I was not a big Blade Runner fan - especially the newest one. Hope you have an awesome 2019!

  14. I read all Tintin when I was younger.
Happy new year and have a great week !

  15. Damn, that artist guy is impressive. You wrote something about The Exit Alternative, right? I feel like I remember it. Love them all though, I feel like this dude should design movie sets or something. Also I need more information on Damocles, please and thank you.

  17. One Million Years BC. I love that movie. Great pulp covers and pictures, Greg. I even like the rainy one. We are finally drying out after 5 or 6 weeks of rain and muddy yards. Happy New Year!

  18. I like the image with ships on the water! I've been itching to read some pirate books, haha. Happy New Year, Greg! I hope it's wonderful and full of amazing stories.

  20. Happy New Year! I thought the same thing - it's hard to believe until you really think about it. πŸ˜‚ I haven't seen Blade Runner, but I'm curious about it now. πŸ€”

  21. My husband and I were talking about Blade Runner the other day and the fact that it is set in 2019. I am glad we weren't the only ones who picked up on that. I hope you have a great new year, Greg. And happy reading!

  22. Happy New Year Greg. I also haven't seen Blade Runner. Usually when I hear Blade Runner, I thing of Wesley Snipes in Blade! Have a great week.

  23. Still can't believe we're in the year the original Blade Runner is set in!

I like the Cold Night Meet picture.

  24. Happy New Year! As always, love the images you choose in your wrap-up posts! Also, it's so weird to think we're living in the future now from 'old' movies and books

  25. Happy New Year!! It's definitely crazy to think it's already 2019. Where does the time go?!
I've never seen Blade Runner. But I can imagine it will be strange since it is the year in the 'future' the movie is set in.
Have a great week Greg. Happy Reading.

  28. Oh yeah, it would definitely be weird to re-visit Bladerunner now.
One book I think was pretty spot on - even if things happened a little later - is 1984! The government doesn't even need to install special TVs in our homes to spy on us - we do it all for them, with our mobile phones, Alexa, Siri and the like...
    Happy 2019!!
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

  29. Happy New Year, Greg! It's my first Sunday post this year, too! Oh I love the two pics, Cold First Meet, and the guy sitting in a room of books with the rain pelting at the window!! Fantastic!

Here's my post for this Sunday wrap up, and my personal 2019 goals.

  30. The world doesn't seem very bladerunner-ish right now does it? Its weird how sci-fi always overestimates the amount of change happening in 30 years or so.

  31. I saw both Blade Runners, and am fascinated by both. I'm wishing you lots of good health, laughter, reading and movie watching in 2019. And of course, I appreciate the blog friendship! Hugs...RO

  32. I felt that way when I lived 1984. Little did I know that it would take until 2019 to live 1984. Oh dear.

    Have a great week!

  33. Happy New Year!! That is crazy about Blade Runner. Love that picture with the rain. Have a great week!

  34. I asked my husband if he saw Blade Runner, and he said yes but a very long time ago. I told him it was supposed to be 2019!

I always love your artistry and I do like the one of the Viking ships (?) and also the boy reading in front of the large rainy window. Keep up the good work in 2019, and enjoy all your books!

  35. OK sorry but Blade Runner might have been the most boring movie I have ever seen. I watched it for editing a story which was related to it but I know I would have preferred the book. The cinematography was gorgeous but I kept looking at the clock like every 2 minutes, is this over yet? Seriously. But it's not surprising I would prefer the book. lol
As always you share the most amazing graphics. Anne - Books of My Heart

  36. The image Cold Night Meet reminds me of a twisted horror version of Peter Pan. It's kind of creepy.
People in movies really had high expectations of the 2000's I think like 3000 or 4000 might be more in the future. :)

I hope you have a wonderful week, Greg! Happy New Year and Happy Reading!

  37. Yes yes I've seen your Blade Runner post and it was really interesting! How the world turned out compared with fiction ;-) Sorry you have to sit out of the Bookish game as I know you love them Greg! Have a wonderful Sunday ;-) Sophie @bewareofthereader

  42. So weird about Bladerunner. I guess at the time 2019 seemed far, far away and so much of that maybe seemed possible. And yet here we are - not a flying car in sight. LOL Love the artwork. The Deep Red one is stunning.

  46. I've never watched Blade Runner. I think it'd be quite cool to watch it this year... Everybody went nuts and had a marathon re-watch of Back To The Future in 2015, so why not? :)

  47. It's wild that this is the year Blade Runner is set in. Hope your new year is off to a great start. I'll be looking forward to the return of Movies That Suck. :)

  48. Blade Runner is set in 2019!!?? Wow, did not realize that. Most likely because I watched it such a long time ago as a kid. Are the two book covers you posted books that you have received?

  51. Happy New Year! I hope you have a great year :)

I've actually never watched Blade Runner. I don't really know much about it. Maybe I'll give it a try this year.

Movies That Suck sounds like a fun feature. I hope that the ones I'm excited about this year will not be disappointments. I think I was disappointed a lot with movies last year (and surprised that I liked some I didn't expect to). 2018 was the first year I didn't watch a single movie at the theater in years.

  52. I have seen Blade Runner more times than I can count — all versions. The joys of being a film major. First update of 2019

  53. Hmm we have reached the future! I'm enjoying a time travel book that shows differences of 1970's to the early 2000's.

  54. Oh, my gosh, that cover on the pulp book you're featuring is awesome. Love the digital artwork too. It's amazing what some people can do.

Hope you have a wonderful week.
