Sunday Post #360

I mentioned my vacation last week but I wanted to share a little more. As I've said before, tent camping is not for everyone! We got rained on and that was the WORST. Storms blew through the day of our arrival and also, helpfully, the night before we left. Good times. I did get some kayaking in, however, and paddle boarding also, so it wasn't all terrible. Will I tent camp in the future? Um, that would be a negative.

The masking and social distancing was interesting. We got take out for most of our meals and ate outside at a couple places, but all the businesses we encountered had very strict mask protocols and distancing, including one way routes through stores. I did make it to two bookstores though and below are pics.

This one is really nice.

  1. I can't say I want to go camping...ok I want to but I would miss everything nice! ;)

  2. I only tried camping once (about 25 years ago) and that was enough for me to know that I am not a camper. I'm more of a hotel with a nice restaurant and spa kind of girl. LOL But bonus on getting to visit a couple of bookstores! I miss wandering through bookstores.

😂 Bonus points for even trying! I would never have been so adventurous, even back when I was a young gal.

That's great that the anti-Covid protocol was respected and you managed to visit bookstores (honestly, which book lover wouldn't smell one of those even from a distance? 😂). And the Pirate's Cove looks nice (I mean, ominous? with those skulls? LOL).

  4. Those bookstores look nice! I'm glad all of the places you went had strict protocols. It makes you feel like you can enjoy yourself more instead of being on edge.

  5. It's been years since I went camping, and the last "camping" trip I took was in a cabin, so I don't think that counts. But at least you got out and the trip wasn't all bad😁

  6. My dad took us all camping a lot when we were kids - I remember one trip to Thousand Islands in New York where it rained a lot. A couple of my brothers were so worried that their tent would be swept away into the lake that they slept in the car!

  7. Awesome pics from your vacation. I'm jealous you got away for a few days...although I'm definitely not jealous about the whole camping in the rain part. :D

  8. I've slept in a camp before, but not in the rain. That sounds awful! I definitely don't ever plan to tent camp again. hah Yay for being able to visit a couple bookstores though.

  9. Yep tent camping is not for everyone, your pics look great and at least you managed to get away.

    Have a great week.

  10. Even if you will never tent camp again, it sounds like you did some fantastic things. It looks really lovely where you were, and the movement flow is interesting to me. I have only really been to the market since the quarantine began, and they didn't have anything too strict other than entering/exiting and lines.

  11. Ugh, I hated camping in a tent. I did it for a school thing and... never again, thanks. XD And yay bookshops! I miss bookshops. I mean, I'm clearly managing to get books in anyway, but it's not the same as going to a shop to browse.

    My weekly roundup/STS post!

  12. Haha, I love the camping gif. I camp a lot, but sometimes it does suck. I’m glad you got to social distance book shop. I’ve been getting all my books online since the pandemic started. I hope you enjoy your new books!

  13. Is Bellamy on one of those planets? I feel like he must be. At least you had some nice moments during the Camping Debacle™. Still, no one wants to sleep in a tent. They shouldn't even sell tents. I have not been to any kind of store (aside from grocery) or restaurant since the pandemic started, so it's interesting to hear how things were! I honestly am not ready to see the changes and how eerie it must be, so I'll just keep doing Door Dash if I get a hankering for outside food ha. Yay for bookstores though! I bet I haven't been to one in over a year at this point, so sad!

  14. Camping and rain are not a fun mix, but I'm happy to hear you enjoyed some of your trip! Yeah, we've done the socially distanced outdoor dining out here. All indoor dining is banned right now so that's the only way you can go out to eat. It was nice to get out. Not sure what will happen when it gets cold, though.

  15. Ah no! Sorry to hear about the rain on your camping trip - I have to admit I am not a fan of camping. But glad you still managed to enjoy your outdoor activities and some food and shopping. Maybe next time you need to get yourself a cosy cabin to stay in? 😊

Also thank you for the mention and really pleased you have been enjoying the channel I recommended. We really liked this video where she walks through the city at night with all the trees lit up.

Take care and happy reading! 😃

  16. I read too many horror plots to even consider camping by tent! My idea of camping is a 3 star hotel or log cabin! The good thing is that you got to visit a few bookstores!

  17. Hi there Greg! Sorry you rained out... We have rainy weather here today, but we did have a nice, not too cold week.

Have you ever been to Tokyo in person? Amazing city! My husband travels to Japan once a year (obviously not this year) and I went with once. It was gorgeous!

Hope your week will be good and I hope you are well rested after your holiday.

    Here's my The Sunday Post

  18. I love the pictures, too bad that the camping fun was cut short due to rain. Speaking of rain, I would love it if it rains here during this hot hot summer in Dubai.

  19. Yes... we used to camp when working with my first father-in-law on showgrounds in high summer. Great when the weather was perfect, otherwise - not so much. I certainly wouldn't now! Glad you had some nice times, though. And love this week's pics, Greg. Have a great week.

  20. Two of my favorite bookstores!!! I am so glad that you got to go north this summer. I miss it! I am most definitely not a tent camper.. glad you all had fun.

  21. I am to old for tent camping now! Use to do it when I was young and it was okay but sleeping on the ground is just not for me...lol. That sucks about the weather glad you had a bit of fun.

I hate mask and haven't been to Walmart since they started enforcing it and will probably be shopping smaller if I can, yes I am a mask protester. :) I have my conspiracy theories about this virus stuff...lol.

    Have a great week!

  22. You're brave to tent camp! I can't sleep on the floor outside, I feel like the spiders would get me because I am always the one to get bit by bugs. Nice pics, glad you got to hit up the bookstores. Enjoy your books this week.

  23. Those bookstores look fabulous!

I used to love tent camping when I was a teenager...and the campfires, too. Now I prefer hotels, and might take a hike in the woods if I have plenty of water, good shoes, and goodies. LOL.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  24. I tried camping in tent one day Greg and ...I was frozen the whole time! I never did it again LOL

  25. I used to go camping every year with my dad. We usually did tent camping until one year when the weather said no rain...it POURED. Our tent flooded out haha we had to sleep in the tiny section in the middle of the tent where no water was. We've rented trailers every year since lol

  26. I need a cabin to go camping. lol Sounds like you had a good time though.

  27. I truly hate camping. I went ALL THE TIME when I first started dating my now-husband and it was the worst. It makes sense as a COVID vacation though. Have a great week!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yay for bookstores. I love to seek them out when traveling too.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Tents are a no go for me. My idea of camping is a two-star hotel. Blech. Glad you got in some good time on the water though!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ah sounds like the kayaking and paddle boarding was good. yes tenting especially in wet weather - that was my last tent experience too! Good that the shops have strict regulations.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I’m more of a glamper than a camper but I do enjoy it mostly, you should try again post pandemic!

Wishing you a great reading week

  32. I am definitely not a camper, but I acknowledge that lots of other people love it!

Tokyo is on my must visit list! One day.

  33. A trip of ups & downs, but hopefully more of the ups! Like book shopping! The second bookstore photo you have shared looks super cute, and the water photo inviting.

I will have to look in to Vietnamese Girl Wandering The World videos - I love these kinds of walking videos; seeing snippets of the world from your armchair.

A lovely week to you & happy reading!

  34. Camping AT ALL is not for me. I prefer a hotel in pretty much every circumstance. Lol. Glad you made it back alive!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I know for a fact tent camping is not for me, I'm not sure camping is even for me. My husband wants to take our kid camping when she is older, I guess I'll be staying at home or nearby hotel!

I'm happy the businesses were strict with their COVID guidelines though!

  36. Ahhh Leelanau books, I will miss my trip this year. Definitely not a tent camper! Sorry the week you went was rainy as we haven't been having much otherwise. Going to miss the Coast Guard festival and fireworks this week.

  37. I haven't been to a bookstore in what feels like forever. I do like what stores are doing to try to enforce social distancing though. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  38. Sorry to hear about the storms. I've never been a camping person and I don't even want to try :) I love that you visited two bookstores and have some nice pics, too. Hope you have a great week!

  39. I think I'm well past tent days myself lol I'm glad you got a little R&R in though.

I had a staycation last week and finally got out into the world and did a little exploring - trying to stick with places that took the best precautions.

  40. Sorry to hear that the tent camping was kind of a bust. The rest of the trip sounds pretty great though, especially the kayaking, paddle boarding and of course the book stores. :)
