I hope everyone's New Year is off to a good start. This week I went to our new library for the first time- they've expanded it quite a bit and it seems pretty state of the art. It's two stories, has a nice reading room, fireplace, all that. Fiction is all on the second floor though, and they have an elevator, but I question that decision a little. I guess they figure anyone disabled or whoever might have issues with stairs can take the elevator? Nice kids area. I was kinda hoping they'd have more books- there's a LOT of space but they don't seem to have expanded their books much, since the previous library was known for not always having much. It would be a shame if they built this fabulous looking new library but we still have to go to the one in the next town over to get selection.

What's everyone watching? I've been dabbling in a few shows but haven't really found anything amazing. Maybe I need to start the Expanse. The new season is calling me, and I still need to finish Riverdale season three!

  1. My local library just renovated but I haven't been since they reopened...you've just reminded me I should go check it out. And I think fiction is on the second floor there too, but I've always thought that non-fiction might be more popular. And of course, the kids areas - those take up huge parts of our libraries!

  2. I need to get started on watching a DVD box set but I don't know which one...maybe Britannia or Vikings? Or do I go for a few I picked up in charity shops that I wasn't sure about to see if I can get them on the out pile? Hmmm. Either way I need to watch something tomorrow! Our local libraries think modern is 'Heart Shaped Box'!!! It's out of date for horror which takes up two shelves and half of them are Stephen King!

  3. I have so many shows I need to watch at the moment that I'm feeling almost paralysed by indecision so not watching any of them! lol. Instead, I'm binge watching The Good Place because my husband has been watching it and - like the Expanse - I end up watching it just by existing in the same space, lol. It's pretty amusing though so I don't mind. :)

I hope the new and expanded book range follows the upgraded library!

  4. Enjoy your new library! That's odd that they wouldn't expand the book selection, but hopefully they're still working on that part of it😁

  5. My favorite TV show at the moment is Dwight in Shining Armor which always makes me laugh.

  6. They probably don't have any budget left for books after the expansion, but maybe soon.

  7. The new library sounds really nice, Greg. I hope they will expand their collection, as you suggest, especially now that they have the space. I hope you are enjoying your current reads. I finally finished my first book of the year (and liked it quite a bit). I am close to finishing my second, another good one. So far so good! I hope you have a great week, Greg.

  8. The new library sounds like the perfect reading spot, and they have a fireplace! How cool is that?

I am currently rewatching Once Upon a Time (I stopped long time ago and now when I wanted to continue but forgot where I was).

  9. New Library sounds so exciting. I hope they expand the collection too.

I have not visited the local library yet, but to be fair it is not "local" and I have to drive 40 min to reach. So that has been a deterrent.

I hope you have a great week ahead.

  10. "It would be a shame if they built this fabulous looking new library but we still have to go to the one in the next town over to get selection."
LOL. Maybe they spent all their budget on the outside for now, and in a while they'll be able to get more books!

Miranda Meeks has some stunning art under her belt. No wonder one of her pieces made it to one of the latest hyped books.

  11. I definitely hope the book selection will be better at the new library for you! Why would they spend so much money on a new look and not improve the books right?!
Have a great week and happy reading.

  12. Now, that would be a shame to have an all new library complex built and have no increase in the library's holdings. When our library was new, they did take a bit to bring everything out of storage so maybe there will be more over the next few months. The library fireplace does sound cozy.

Night Shift looks like a great wintry mystery.

    Have a good week, Greg!

  13. Our library is going downhill since it was taken over by a Cultural Trust (...basically a charity) rather than being run by the local Council.

Oh well, at least we still have one. A lot of the libraries around here have closed, and some people have to go 2 or 3 towns away to find one. They do have mobile libraries, but they're only there at a specific time, and if you're not available at that time... *shrugs*

  14. Happy New Year! My own library suffers for space and caters to older generations so I have to request what I'm interested in and end up putting the majority of my books on hold or loan from other libraries. I still feel lucky to have a library close by to borrow from though!

  15. I wonder why they put fiction on the second floor? Seems like a bad move since I would think that most readers are looking for fiction. They completely renovated the library closest to my house a while ago. I liked it before because there aren't as many books anymore and that is why I am there. Love all of the art. Have a great week!

  16. Yeah, that would suck if they didn't add more books. Our library did a remodel too and I don't think they added much either just more room for other things. They have a community room, children's area, etc but there could be so much more!

Have you thought about trying Dracula on Netflix? It was okay and I would be curious of your opinion. :)

Have a great week and happy reading!

  17. Our library is just one floor, but they have a wall of floor to ceiling windows that overlook the town park, and the river. It used to be in the basement of the council building with no windows so it’s a big improvement, and the selection is pretty good.

Wishing you a great reading week

  18. I hope they fill the library a bit more with books. A new library is always nice to explore.

  19. Are you able to order books in from other libraries? We can go online and order books from anywhere in the county and shame on me because we've got right out of the habit of doing so! One of my New Year's Resolutions - read more library books! As for watching things on TV - nope. Right now, I'm underwhelmed. Though I'm looking forward to a new series of Vera starting tonight. I'd LOVE to watch The Expanse, but I'm guessing that's only available on Netflix... Have a great week, Greg.

  20. Your library sounds really nice. A fireplace? Wow, really nice! Hope you have a great week!

  21. Ooh, the new library sounds great! Hopefully with all that space they'll be expanding the collection soon.

  22. Well Greg I hope they'll fill in these new shelves with lots of fiction books! If I was living close by I could donate the ones that I don't need anymore. And as fas as TV shows are concerned, after The Witcher, my husband is now watching...Riverdale LOL

  23. Happy New Year, Greg! I haven't begun any new shows as of yet, but the buzz around You has peaked my interest. Lately, I've been watching L&O: SVU, The Strain, and Ripper Street. I've been thinking of checking out Jack Ryan, though, after I finish Ripper Street. My brother said it was really good.

  24. I'm in the same boat as you - apparently. I have tried to get into a couple new shows without any luck. Riverdale is one of them. I really enjoyed the first season but couldn't get into the second. Maybe I should try it again...
I hope your library expands on its book selection soon. Nothing worse than a fancy library without books.
    Have a great week!

  25. Oo a new library! It sounds fabulous. And I love that you considered disabled people in your assessment. Wyatt uses a wheelchair when we go out a lot, and our library has an elevator to the next floor up, which is the "old" part of the library. Our library is a mix of an old historic home and an addition maybe built in the 60s? The magazines are in the old part and I would need to take the elevator to get up there when he is with me. :)Hopefully you get a better selection soon!

  26. The same thing happened with my library. They moved to a bigger building, but they seem to have the same amount of books. There’s just more space between them. I hope you have a great week!

  27. Hopefully they will slowly be adding books for a greater selection. I am fortunate to have two close libraries to me with good selections. We just finished Wanted and Safe, both pretty good. Looking for another series to start. Hope you are thawing out from the ice/snow storm this weekend.

  28. I haven't found any shows that I'm all that interested in either. I did enjoy The Mandalorian but that was only 8 episodes so now I'm right back to looking for another new show.

  29. It has been YEARS since I've had access to a large library and I miss it so much! Ours are okay, but I'd love to have a really nice library again. I've been watching season four of Channel Zero on Shudder and I just discovered The Circle on Netflix!

  30. I find that to be a problem with a lot of newer libraries - there's a greater emphasis on providing space, computers and programming, sometimes at the expense of physical collections. It kinda makes me sad - I love just wandering through walls and walls of books!

  31. Our library is getting new rooms too. The new building is in the making and I am curious as hell how it will look when it is done somewhen in Fall. Have a wonderful new week.

  32. Truth be Told is pretty good, and I looking forward to Hunters (With Al Pacino no less) and The Outsider as well -- this one is a Stephen King adaptation, so I freely admit I might not go too far in it!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sounds like maybe the library renovation was more cosmetic than anything. No more books but you get a fireplace. Hm. And why put fiction upstairs? Weird decision.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I always tend to be a little behind things, but I have loved The Great British Baking Show and Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee of late. Both are good fun.

  35. I love Run and Dream but all the art is great. We watched Dracula, the new Netflix series last week. It was okay but nothing spectacular. We're still watching Lost in Space Season 2 and The Mandelorian. Mr. Barb isn't thrilled with either so but we'll get to them eventually. I actually watched episode 4 of Riverdale over the weekend. I'm almost current. I don't quite know what to think about Season 4 yet. Cheryl is over-the-top nuts in this one!

  36. Thanks to you, I just discovered Etienne Hebinger, amazing French artist

  37. The new library sounds fantastic, but yeah, I do hope they get more books if the selection isn't great---better to focus money there.

  38. The new library sounds great...it could be that they will be adding to their collection now that they have more room.

  39. I hope your new library expands their collection so that you can find things the interest you. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  40. The new library building sounds absolutely fabulous, but yes I can really understand the need for lots of books in it!!

  41. We got a new modern library about twenty years ao. It too has a lot of space, but not more books; although they do have a pretty good inventory. Maybe they were thinking about making people get more exercise by putting the fiction on the second floor? Ha ha. Ours was the opposite; the fiction in the old library was on the second floor (no elevator). The only thing that is on the second floor in our new library is the historical society and their local history books and documents. 📚

    Thanks for the ambient! 👍✨

I hope, you had a great start to the week today. 🌞

  42. A few years back they renovated and expanded our library. All state of the art and it even has a café, but for some reason I never go! There's lots of space too and it doesn't seem like they have more books.

I'm also searching for a good TV show to start watching. Enjoy your reading and viewing this week!

  43. Your new library sounds amazing! A fireplace?! I love it. Hope they get more books! :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hopefully their next step after all this expansion is to try and expand their book range too! But the layout of the new library is so cool. Even if a bit limited, it could be a nice place to go and read :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hmm... Perhaps expanding the book collection is the next phase of upgrading your local library; it would be a bit counter intuitive not to really.

I like the last image shared. Happy reading!

  46. Love the Nocturne Project art! I'm going through an artist phase right now :) I think I'm finally going to watch the 100! :)
