Sunday Post #289

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Book Date

So a month ago or so I was thinking about how St. Patty's Day was coming up soon, and now... it's here. This week. Where did the month go? In other news I've been lamenting the lack of a Movies That Suck post and I've been reviewing candidates for possible watching. This one came to mind...

Image result for point break gif

Also I've been revising my On the Run flash fiction. And I wrote something new! It's a road trip story featuring Hawkeye and Thor. That'll be on Monday. Also next week (the 25th) I'll be debuting a new feature called Tales From Northern Michigan, where I share stuff from - you guessed it- beautiful northern Michigan. First up will be snowy owls and an awesome eagle rescue.

I saw Capt. Marvel this week and loved it. If you follow me on Twitter you've probably seen me extolling its virtues. I also wrote a post about how Carol Danvers never gives up, and why I felt the movie is so inspirational- that will be up soon. And... I rediscovered my favorite game Stargate and posted some video below. Including an arcade in the Detroit area.

This past week I reviewed Lady S and I posted Cover Love - Sea Monsters which was fun to put together. Next week I've got a review coming for either You Owe Me A Murder or the Sky So Heavy- whichever one I get to.

Stargate is my favorite game. The words Yllabian Dogfight always meant you were in deep shit.

Here's a Yllabian dogfight at the 2:20 mark. Notice how loud the controls are- this is a game where you can reverse constantly, and there are seven buttons to master- in an arcade setting we're talking serious hand/eye coordination!

Okay or maybe just watch this one- some guy playing in an arcade. The best way to play. I love the comments and the random screaming you hear in the background. And if you want to see a Yllabian dogfight in a noisy arcade setting just skip to 8:45.

And switching gears a bit- wouldn't the Empire have been better served if all their officers had been this efficient?

  1. Haven't played Stargate, but dang it makes me anxious just looking at it! LOL. Doesn't mean I don't want to play though... :D

  3. Hey there Gorgeous Greg, and hope all is well in your world. That pulp cover is over the top in a good way, and I love it! Everyone who has seen Captain Marvel has had nothing but good things to say, and I can't wait to see it. I adore my super heroes for sure. Looking forward to Tales From Northern Michigan, which sounds like it will be a great post. Headed over to check out Twitter to get your thoughts on Captain Marvel. Happy weekend and hugs...RO

    1. Hey ravishing Ro- how are you? I keep checking to see if you have posted so I can leave a comment haha- no pressure though, I don't mean it that way. Just that I hope you're well. :)

Captain Marvel is awesome. And thank you- I hope people like Tales from Northern Michigan. :)

  4. I remember when we got our first game system which was Atari. We only had 2 games for it-Pac Man and Asteroids! I loved Pac Man and never got tired of playing it. When we went on holiday to the same hotel every year as a kid, I'd watch all the guests playing Space Invader!

  5. I'm so behind on the Marvel universe movies! I think I stopped at Thor 2 and because I disliked it so much I kinda sorta gave up on everything altogether? Considering how everyone and their parents are praising them I should really try and get back on the train. Or I could wait for everything to release and spend a few weeks binging them. Awesome images as always :)

    1. Thor 2 was AWFUL. I'm with ya there, although Ragnarok wan't BAD?? Not perfect by any means, but the humor was on point at times. Definitely the best Thor movie! I would say they are getting better, at least for me- I can't really watch the older ones much anymore, I just get bored, but Capt. Marvel and the Ant-Man/ Wasp was hilarious I thought!

  8. Captain Marvel was just amazing, I think because I went into it not knowing a lot about it, I ended up loving it more, the humour and action was just done brilliantly! And I've heard great things about Mcmanus' books, I need to get to them soon. Hope you have a great week Greg!

  14. Hopefully you are reading The Sky So Heavy! I mean maybe the other one is good too. Actually, I *am* a little curious about it so I hope you get to it at some point. Not like when I buy a book and then 239 years later remember I own it and read it.

I LOVE the Abandoned pictures. Like how great would they be for backdrops of some dystopian wasteland? Also, it should come as no surprise but I haven't a clue what movie that GIF is from for Movies That Suck and now I am curious!

  15. Yay for more On the Run. 👍✨

Yes to the travelogue! I love seeing things where people live. 🌳

That ambient is nice because it stays calm throughout the whole thing. 😊

I could never play arcade games of that type. Theyalways made me nervous. Ha ha. 😁
