This week is Top Ten Halloween freebie! I'm going with scary/ atmospheric reads- I'm not a horror fan so none of these will be that (with one or two exceptions) but all of these have a creepy or spooky vibe about them. In some cases the supernatural bits may just be rumors, in other cases they are definitely part of the story.
This is Not A Test, The Blackbird Season and Ten all look good to me! Like you I prefer creepy to horror.
ReplyDeleteI love the cover of that first one, and all the 13 ones look like they'd be such a whimsical kinda creepy!
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I can't wait to read Into the Drowning Deep and I've heard good things about This is Not a Test, too. Happy Halloween!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these, Greg, they are definitely what we need today :D Happy Halloween, and hope you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteI don't read a lot of horror novels, but books that are a bit spooky and have supernatural elements would definitely appeal to me this time of year!
ReplyDeleteNice and spooky
ReplyDeleteI think sometimes atmospheric reads are better than straight out horror. Depends on what you're in the mood for. I've heard good things about Ten. Did you watch the recent movie Lifetime made of it?
ReplyDeleteI don't really do horror but love the idea of spooky reads. This is Not a Test and Ten look super good. Great list!
ReplyDeleteThere's always something creepy about the number 13 for some reason, and your list looks pretty neat! Hugs...RO
ReplyDeleteOoh I agree with This Is Not a Test and Ten. :)

I certainly prefer horror to slightly creepy so I'm not familiar with any of these books. I have heard of three I think!
ReplyDeleteThis could have been a list of awesomely, creepy book covers too. I want to read several now based solely off their covers.
ReplyDeleteAs always, I love your covers. I don't remember seeing any of these books, and I am very intrigued by the "13" series - those look like books I could read/listen to with my boys. Definitely checking them out. Happy Halloween! My post DOES center on horror (Classic Stephen King), so you may want to skip it this week! ;)
ReplyDeleteWhy haven't I read Ten yet? That just seems like something I desperately need to read! I have the 13 series on my TBR and I really want to read The Blackbird Season. Great list and hope you're feeling better!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite kind of scary books. :-) This is a great list, Greg. I haven't read any of these, but several are on my wish list. Fear the Drowning Deep and The Blackbird Season especially.
ReplyDeleteGreat choices Greg. I'm thinking of picking up the Mira Grant. I've been wanting to give her a try for a while.
ReplyDeleteFor What It's Worth
I am NOT a scary book person, but these totally appear to fit the bill based on the covers. I am impressed you found 3 books with the number 13 on the cover. Well done.
ReplyDeleteOh, have you reviewed Into the Drowning Deep yet? If so, I must have missed it! I'm very curious about that one, and it does seem very atmospheric. And Jenna Black's Nightstruck was pretty creep for a YA novel, I have to pick up the sequel sometime!

It feels weird to be talking about creepy books. Books in general. Idk. It is kind of weird, right? But anyway, I guess I will, for that is the point. The Wood and Fear the Drowning Deep are definitely great creepy books. I love the covers for all the "13" books, too, they're really pretty. I definitely want to read This Is Not a Test, The Blackbird Season, and Ten. Great choices!
ReplyDeleteOh I love the covers of these ones!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these, but pretty much all of them are on my tbr!
ReplyDeleteWonderful list!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a horror fan, either, lol, but I have read This Is Not a Test. It definitely creeped me out and reminded me why I don't usually read zombie books!

ReplyDeleteAll of those covers are amazing! I'm not a horror fan either, but I do enjoy atmospheric reads. Fear the Drowning Deep is one I've been wanting to read for a while now.
ReplyDeleteI like The Freeks and 13 Treasures (need to read more of that series)
ReplyDeleteThe Wood's cover is so simple and yet so creepy already.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are doing well, Greg. <3
Oh I love the cover for 13 Curses. How pretty!
ReplyDeleteEvery time I see Freaks I want to read it and then I forget to add it to Goodreads. I don't think I have ever seen it on ebook sale though. :)
