Sunday Post #179

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

January is almost over! Hard to believe. It actually hasn't been that bad weather wise (you know, for January). This week saw some alarming developments- someone somewhere said this was the ugliest first week of a presidency in memory- hard to disagree. And "alternative facts." The cool thing was the rise of "alt" park service Twitter accounts. After being muzzled early in the week a rash of alt accounts appeared spreading news of climate change and other things that we're apparently not supposed to know.

I did some writing this week although it was mostly brainstorming. There's a chance that Trust Issues IV will see the light of day- I thought I was done with that story but now I'm not sure.

This week I read How Will I Know You? and it was very good. I've been on a roll so far- this is the third really good book I've read in 2017. I'm already looking forward to my best of 2017 list- at this rate it's going to be interesting! I also read Freeks and am currently in the first Mercy Thompson book. Yes I'm finally reading them!

How Will I Know You?

Song of the week

Last Weeks Stuff:

Cover Characteristics this past week was all about the retro SF for Vintage SciFi Month. Tuesday Tagline was a good one I thought with not one but two awesome covers. My Top Ten was a freebie and I looked at my favorite SF locations of the last year  And then I reviewed Rising Tides (a dystopian) and shared Bookcover Spotlight #85.

Next Week:

Cover Characteristics will look at humorous SF covers. Tuesday Tagline returns and on Wednesday I'll be discussing stargates in fantasy/ SF. And I'll be reviewing Three Dark Crowns. Friday will be Bookcover Spotlight #86 and somewhere I'll fit in my reaction post for The 100 premiere (because The 100 is life).

PULP COVER OF THE WEEK:

Carey, Donnell - Kisses Can Kill! (Hanro, 1951)

NEW ARRIVAL/ UPCOMING REVIEWS:

The Wanderers (The Wanderers, #1)

  2. Yea to reading Mercy Thompson! I should be getting my hands on book nine in the next couple of weeks so I'm looking forward to that. I really hope you enjoy the series. I can't quite belive January is coming to an end and we've only had a couple of cold days really. Makes me think a bad spell is on its way!

  3. I've been so distracted this week and haven't gotten much reading (or viewing) in... those "alternative facts" are making me crazy. Loved seeing the alt National Parks account spring up. Many other government agencies now have alt accounts on twitter now, too!

  5. HA! That's exactly what my monthly wrapu up is going to say when it comes up next week "January hasn't been that bad weather wise"
So scary that the doomsday clock moved three minutes because of this first week! It had never moved this much!

I have to catch up with you writing and read what I have pending of Trust Issues I really like your writing :)

YAY! finally Mercy Thompson! I need to stop procrastinating with that one book.

Now off to check you Cover Characteristics but before I go and talking about retro SciFi.. Greg you gotta check my review of Hell Divers. Have you read that book yet??? It has your name all over it!!!

  10. I have been eyeing the Treadway book, as I enjoyed Lacy Eye...last year, I think.

I still can't believe that we have a president who tweets all the time, and seems to be throwing a tantrum regularly.

A man behaving like a child in the White House is a scary thing. One thing to note: his behavior makes the antics of Nixon, et. al. seem minor.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

  12. It is hard to believe January is almost over. I might be able to look stupid, but idk what these alt Twitter accounts are that you're talking about?

Yay for writing! All I've been doing lately is *thinking* about writing lol. And whoa, that time lapse video is so cool! Though to me the most impressive thing is that she actually painted herself. That's gotta be hard to get all the angles and lines and everything. And that's also awesome that you're already finding such great books :-)

    1. The Park service started tweeting from alt accounts (not the official) after they were shut down by Trump earlier in the week. they started posting climate change stuff and other info after being told they couldn't. It then spread to other agencies so there's a bunch of "alt" twitter accounts out there now...

I know, I didn't do ANY writing for months. It feels good to be doing it again. And yeah it's been a good start book- wise. :)

I remember my mother telling me about all the consequences a "bad" American president can have on the rest of the world. I was about 16 or 17 back then. And the other week we talked on the phone and I mentioned it. "Do you remember how worried you were?" And she just laughed... then silence.

  55. I am pretty sure that the picture of "dystopian future" at the bottom should probably say "This time next Thursday...". Seriously, what the actual hell is happening!? I mean, look, we knew it would be bad. Of course. But THIS!? This is... not only is this some kind of strange dystopian fiction, but it's like, we'd bash on this for being full of plotholes, having unrealistic, one-sided characters, and really shoddy world-building. Because you don't go from Obama to... Literal Hell in 8 days! I mean, you do, clearly. But... how even!?

Okay, I am trying to focus on books for a second. Idk if I can. Well- I am glad that your writing is going well! I have, as usual, abandoned mine post-NaNo and come up with an entire new "thing" that needs to be written... next November.... if the earth isn't a literal garbage fire. So yes, keep writing! It is cathartic, I am sure! Also looking forward to your thoughts on Freeks, and Three Dark Crowns! And also... The 100 is TODAY. Today. So I mean, at least we have one thing to look forward to!
