Top Ten Books That Are Underrated/ Hidden Gems

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a new Top Ten list will be posted. Everyone is welcome to join. Link back to The Broke and the Bookish so everyone can check out other bloggers' lists. It's a fun way to get to know fellow bloggers.

This week's topic is Top Ten Underrated or Hidden Gem Books.

A School for Unusual Girls (Stranje House, #1)

This is a good series with two books released so far but I think it might fly under the radar a bit.

The Blue

I'm not sure I've seen any other reviews of this one, and I loved it. You can check out my thoughts here. I push this one every chance I get.

The Immortals (Olympus Bound, #1)

Greek gods and Manhattan. A modern day Artemis hunting predatory men- and ritual murders.

Sanctuary Bay

Boarding school (on an island) plus SF elements.

World of Water (Dev Harmer Mission, #2)

This is an excellent SF set on a water planet.

The Complete Morgaine (Morgaine Saga #1-4)

Morgaine must close the Gates no matter what, even if it dooms entire worlds. A great examination of dedication and ruthlessness in pursuit of a goal.

Love & Gelato

Switching gears here- this was a cute story set in Italy about a girl who goes there to spend the summer with her father. Who she's never met.

The Girl from the Sea

I did see reviews of this one, but not a ton. I thought this was solid but that  TWIST.

Tides

  1. These look like some great books! I have the audiobook of 'The Immortals', but haven't started it yet. Sounds like I need to do some more reading! ;)

  2. "A modern day Artemis hunting predatory men." My inner feminist likes the sound of that, haha. I do recall you mentioning or reviewing most of these. It's kinda sad how many books out there are so great but so unknown or underrated!

    1. Right? She's kind of a badass. :) And yeah this topic was tough as I felt like I was using a lot of the same books. That's the problem with TTT...

  6. I love The School for Unusual Girls series. I thought we had to stick with 2016 releases for some reason or it would have made my list too. Love & Gelato was fantastic.

    1. It has quite the twist. I didn't love the book but the ending was pretty twisty.

  8. I certainly plan to read The Immortals this year at some point. Your blog was one of those who alerted me to this in the first place and who can resist that cover?

  10. I'm almost finished listening to Love and Gelato. It's giving me such nostalgia for Italy! And gelato, of course. Both A School for Unusual Girls and The Blue look like books I'd want to read.

    1. I can see where it would definitely give one nostalgia, especially if you've been to the Florence area.

  11. The Immortals! I love a good Greek Gods in modern times book. Another recent on I loved but seems forgotten is Gods Behaving Badly; though it is a more humorous take.

  38. I can't remember if I picked up A School For Unusual Girls, along the way, or not. I vaguely remember it being on sale at some point (you know how I love my Kindle sales, ha ha), I will have to check. You still have me looking at The Immortals. I interacted a lot, A LIT with the author of Tides on Twitter, Tumblr, and her blog, usually authors who are doing their own promotions at least offer an e-copy of some sort at that point, or a book to giveaway on your blog. I don't think some authors get how much bang for their buck they are getting from bloggers, especially bloggers who are really active on Twitter. It is almost like they think if they give you a review copy they have lost a sale, they need to think about how many sales that e-copy can generate in an active blogger's hands. I saw Tides at the library. I might borrow it to read sometime. Did I see a sequel at some point? I think I remember seeing a sequel.

  39. A School for Unusual Girls sounds awesome - I've gotten really into Historical Fiction in the past year, and this one seems like something I'd love.

  41. GREAT list, Greg! Most of them I've never heard of, so I'm indebted to you for putting them on my radar. I'm bookmarking this page, too, so I can start adding the whole list to my Goodreads shelves! :)

I did read the Morgaine trilogy years ago, and LOVED it!! Well, Cherryh is an EXCELLENT writer, and I need to read more of her books. I was not aware, though, that a FOURTH volume had been added to the Morgaine books, so thanks for featuring this omnibus edition, too!!

Thanks as well for visiting and commenting on my own WOW post!! <3 :)

  42. The Immortals sounds great. Got to love some Greek Gods.

  43. I haven't even heard of any of these! Excellent list. They all sound great. I love the cover of The Blue. And Love & Gelato is calling me. I don't know if it's the cover or your description, but it sounds like it is just the thing I should be reading right now. Adding to my TBR for sure!

  44. Every time I see Love and Gelato I'm reminded that it's a MUST read. I'd say seeing it on ALL THE BLOGS is even a sign! :)
