Sunday Post #81
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.
It's been a quiet week on the blog. Not much going on, got some reading done- not a lot- but some reviews are on the way. Went out to Carabba's today (love that place), but other than that it's a quiet weekend too. Maybe I'll get some reading done tonight.
My Hardy Boys project is well underway, with two reviews up and more to come. I'm having a lot of fun picking out which ones to read, and it's fun revisiting that world again. It's been a long time... I just finished The Short- Wave Mystery and my thoughts will be up on Tuesday. I'm thinking of expanding this to include other vintage juveniles as well. It is nice to go back and see how they hold up.

I've been enjoying your Hardy Boy reviews. I meant to pick up a few when I was at the library yesterday but was in a rush. Next time though. They sound like such fun. Look forward to seeing your thoughts on Girl on the Train and Death of a Dishonorable Gentleman! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you, I've been writing them (and reading the books!). It's just something different, and a lot of fun to revisit those simpler times. :)
DeleteI think those other two books sound good too, and am looking forward to getting into those!
The Hardy Boys! Even seeing the cover makes me feel nostalgic. I really need to dig mine out and revisit one or two. Hope you enjoy The Girl on the Train as much as I did.
ReplyDeleteI know- those cover make me nostalgic too. some of that cover art just bring back a lot of memories! Hope you have a great week, happy reading!
DeleteSomething tells me that I should have requested and eARC of The Girl On the Train. Everyone seems to be reviewing it quickly, which usually means it waseitherreally good, or really bad. I like reading both extremes. I will have to drop back and read Kimba's review. I wish I had some free reading space to revisit some old series. A friend of mine has been reading a bunch of Nancy Drew books and is going to do a big blog post about them. Maybe I should re-read some Bobbsey Twins books! Have a great week and keep warm!
ReplyDeleteI've seen good reviews for the most part, with an occasional dissenter. Kimba's was good. I'm looking forward to checking it out.
DeleteCannot wait to see what you think of Girl on a Train. These Hardy Boy review are taking me on a trip down memory lane! Stay warm, and read on!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to it too, after all the hype I'm anxious to take a crack at it! I've seen good reviews for the most part, with an occasional not so enthusiastic one, but I'm curious.
DeleteThose HB reads are a trip down memories lane for me too. I don't remember much, so they are new for the most part. A simpler time. :)
I see the Girl on the train everywhere, I'd love to read it. Never read the Hardy boys, though, I used to read The famous five or Nancy Drew, or slightly different, The black stallion :) Have a great week !
ReplyDeleteMe too, and am very curious to get to it and see about all the hype. I loved The Black Stallion movie as a kid, thought it was very inspirational. Have not read the book.
DeleteI really want to read The Girl on a train. Everyone seems to love it. Have a great week.

Me too, I'm very curious. Hope your week is great!
DeleteI agree about the Hardy Boy covers. They make me nostalgic for my Nancy Drew books. Barnes & Noble has a tote bag with a Nancy Drew cover. If I didn't have so many tote bags already, I'd buy it.
ReplyDeleteMy post: http://www.bookclublibrarian.com/2015/02/weekly-book-recap-97.html
The art on the cover makes me nostalgic too, something about them. I have to say that's part of the draw for me- especially as I don't remember thes tories much at all!
DeleteI love old cover of books. I have a feature I want to do around October that has older books, but I can't seem to find them. I am glad you can still find Hardy Boy Books.
ReplyDeleteI haven't really done much reading either but I am hoping to get going this week with 2.
Have a great week Greg!
It's funny, those books are still after all these years. Still in print, and easy to get- glad I don't have to track them down all over. My week was not very reading oriented- maybe this week. :)
DeleteLooks like fun reading. :-) I keep seeing Girl on a Train. I think I may need to read it. LOL Thanks for sharing.

I know, I've seen it EVERYWHERE. Good grief. :) So I want to read it just to see if it hold up.
DeleteI'll be looking for your review of The Girl on the Train. I have that one on my TBR. I have fun with my reviews of old books. I noticed your Hardy Boys ones are much shorter than mine. I need to cut mine down because they take forever to write!
ReplyDeleteI hope to have that one up next week, if all goes well. My reading time has been kinda low and I hope to get some more books soon.
DeleteWhen I first started blogging, I joined a challenge to revisit some old favorites from my younger years, and reread several books by Louisa May Alcott, including Little Women, etc. Also reread Alice in Wonderland.
ReplyDeleteI would love to reread some of my Nancy Drews. I enjoyed your Hardy Boys review. Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Thank you, and I agree. There's something very comforting about revisiting these old classics
DeleteEveryone is talking about The Girl on the Train. It sounds really good so I hope you enjoy it. And I love those covers of The Hardy Boys. It brings back good memories! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI know, and I'm anxious to see what all the hype is about. I like the HB cover too, they do bring back good memories. Some of those in particular just make me want to read the book!
DeleteThe Hardy Boys! I was so obsessed with them (and Nancy Drew) when I was a kid! Ooh, this is making me really curious, wonder what I'd think of them now... I'm tempted to reread a couple :D Enjoy your books, and have a great week, Greg!
ReplyDeleteI was very curious about them too, and it has been fun to rerea them. I read a lot of those too. :)
DeleteI used to love The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew. I've heard so many good things about The Girl on the Train. I should read that one too.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Thank you, you too. I liked those books growing uo as well, and it is fun to revisit them.
DeleteI think it's so cool that you are doing the Hardy Boys project~!!! I love when blogs have a little project going on. It's been quite around the blog for me too. Been just busy and when I think about with what I have no idea! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI have not read those books in ages, but a few times I've wondered what it would be like to go back to them. so I am... and it's been surprisingly fun. I kinda need a project to keep me focused- I was in a rut as to what to read next, so this helps. :)
DeleteYou are courageous to go back and look at old favorites from earlier times, I see above it is working out though. Heard so much about The Girl on the Train and just read one with a point of difference by Sheila at Book Journey.
ReplyDeleteIt's been years and years since I have seen a Hardy Boys book little lone read one. I'm glad you are enjoying them. I always preferred them to Nancy Drew.
ReplyDeleteHave a great reading week,
Shelleyrae @ Book'd Out
I actually am enjoying them a lot, which surprises me. I expected to be bored and for them not to age very well- but it's a into a simpler time.
DeleteI can't remember if I ever read the Hardy Boys books. I loved detective fiction as a girl and read a lot of Nancy Drew until I became a teenager and switched to Agatha Christie. I used to think that they should kill Nancy off when I was a teen. It seemed like she shouldn't have been able to get out of all those sticky situations. I hope you are enjoying rereading The Hardy Boys. I'm not sure I'd like rereading Nancy Drew :)
ReplyDeleteI am curious about Death of a Dishonorable Gentleman. I ordered a copy for the library and plan on checking it out when it comes in. I love historical mysteries so much more than modern ones.
I like historical mysteries so much more too. The Hardy Boy books have been a surprise, I didn't think I'd like them but I've actually enjoyed revisiting them a great deal. Who knew? It's a into a simpler time, and although not perfect, I am getting a lot of enjoyment out of them.
DeleteKeen to hear what you thought of The Girl on The Train.
ReplyDeleteMy brother read Hardy Boys mysteries, while I was more of a Trixie Beldon and Nancy Drew fan. (Very stereotypical, but I guess it was the 1970s!)
Deb
Nostalgic when I see Hardy Boys. Takes me back to Mallory Towers and Nancy Drew
ReplyDeleteHooray for the Hardy Boys! The Girl on the Train is everywhere... I've finally added my name to the library hold list.
ReplyDeleteWow The Hardy Boys..how cool! I hope your enjoying them! I got Girl on the Train in audio yesterday because Kimba made it sound so cool on audio..lol. :)
ReplyDeleteI am actually enjoying them- surprised me!
DeleteI love rereading childhood favorites!! I generally read the Little House series every single winter. :) Enjoy your Hardy Boys!
ReplyDeleteI remember those books! Those would be good to revisit I would think. I'm enjoying the Hardy boys a lot, who knew it would be so fun? :)
DeleteI love rereading childhood favorites!! I generally read the Little House series every single winter. :) Enjoy your Hardy Boys!
ReplyDeleteLove the Hardy boys reviews! It's making me want to grab some of my childhood favorites and give them another read! I hope you enjoy your week Greg!
ReplyDeleteAwesome, I'm enjoying it way more than i thought I would. and it has made me somewhat more to revisit some other childhood faves as well.

ReplyDeleteMy It's Monday! What Are You Reading? post.
I have not actually read it yet, although I hope to have it up in a week or so. I'm quite anxious to get
DeleteI was looking through some of my old books and I do love those old covers. I like the ones printed right on the book, not on a cover sleeve. It's been so long since I've read and Hardy Boys. Sounds like fun!
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post - http://fuonlyknew.com/2015/02/07/whats-new-on-my-bookshelf-96-and-the-sunday-post/
I've thought about revising the Nancy Drew books that I loved as a kid. It would be interesting to see if they are as good as I remember. Have fun with your Hardy Boys project!
ReplyDeleteSo many of us on The Girl on the Train bandwagon. I'm only a little way into the audio but the narrators are good. Old childhood favourites bring back so many good memories. Have a great week and happy reading :)
ReplyDelete! can't wait to read your review of The Girl on the Train. I really liked it, but I still need to write my own review.
ReplyDeleteI am hope to get to it soon. With all the hype I'm anxious to see.
DeleteOops, what I meant to say was I'm anxious to see how it is, I've heard a lot of good stuff. I think I've only see one lukewarm reaction to it.
DeleteI used to love both The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew when I was younger :) It's so nice to see that you are still enjoying these!
ReplyDeleteI've heard a lot about The Girl on the Train too, I hope you'll enjoy, it Greg.
