This has been a pretty quick week with Christmas approaching. Lots of last minute shopping (is it last minute shopping time already??) and frustration with Amazon Prime and two day shipping that slides into three days or longer. Sigh. I'm actually thinking of canceling Prime because I seem to get virtually no benefit from it relative to the cost. Anyway... I've been watching Impulse season two on Youtube this week and I love that show. So many things going on- is anyone else watching?

In other news I hope everyone who celebrates has a happy and safe season!

This is one of my favorite recent ambience finds. It's just background noise for a space station but I love the occasional announcements that go out. Fun.

I love this prehistoric ambience.

  1. To be fair, it's not all Amazon's fault in this case with the shipping. The shipping delays with all carriers have been astronomical this year due to a massive influx of online shopping over the Black Friday weekend. I don't work for Amazon, but I do work for an online retailer, and we have been seeing our customers' packages being delayed for up to 8 days because FedEx and UPS can't keep up with the workload. In the 28 years I've worked in the industry, I've never seen it like this.
But yeah, it does seem like the cost outweighs the benefits through Amazon Prime lately.

  2. Last year sometime I did the 30 day trial membership of Prime and KU at the same time and found that KU was better for what I was interested in. But now it is evening out a bit, so I will keep Prime a while longer. Plus the discount at Whole Foods helps. Shipping has been off the chain for a couple weeks now, I can't even imagine how bad it will be this week.

  3. We use Prime Video a decent amount but I definitely agree that the shipping window has gotten longer lately. Usually I more want free shipping (I hate having to spend $25 if I don't necessarily want to or having to pay for shipping) then super fast shipping so it doesn't bother me but I can see it losing its value. I hope you have a wonderful holiday and a great week!

  4. I've been having some issues with shipping too, but for me, I think around Nov-Dec it has more to do with stuff being out of stock. Sometimes it's a 3-5 day wait just for the stuff to come in before it can even ship, but otherwise I've been pretty happy with my Prime membership especially since they started their own delivery service. It seems like every time I turn around, there's an Amazon van in my neighborhood dropping off stuff! Hope you'll get all your stuff in time for the holidays, it does get a little crazy this time of the year!

  5. I used to use Prime and next day shipping always worked for me. But I don't really do online shopping around christmas time because shipping becomes mad as demand is so high. Hopefully everything will arrive on time :( The cover for songs from the deep is beautiful!

  6. Ugh, that sucks with the issues with Prime shipping. I guess I'm lucky because I've really only had good experiences and we've had Prime for years. I even had a couple same-days deliveries last week. Love that.

  7. I did a trial years ago of Amazon Prime and when my first two orders arrived late, I cancelled the trial! Amazon's overall service this year was poor so I certainly won't pay extra for it!

  8. You always find the best ambiance videos! With me it's UPS that makes me crazy. They are delaying a lot of deliveries due to bad weather on the east coast. I guess it's just that time of year! Have a wonderful holiday, Greg!

  9. I'm surprised you've been having issues with Prime---mine has been super fast, even over the holidays (I do think I had one thing that took longer, but it wasn't something I even ordered for Christmas, so I didn't really care). Sorry you've been having issues!

  10. Shipping is always crazy around Christmas - which is why I am totally not doing that this year :)). I either buy the presents or in case of my family (they live miles away) I will send them the presents in January.

    Have a lovely holiday!

  11. My daughter just told me she wanted something, which I sent her a picture of like a month ago, and Amazon cannot deliver it until the second week of Jan. I was sad. Good luck with all your shopping and I hope your holiday is amazing.

  12. I felt the same way about Prime. I had it for a little while, but it wasn’t worth the cost. I hope you have a great Christmas!

  13. The Perfect Wife was a really good read. You read my blog, so you know I try to get deals whenever I can(lol), so I've managed to score FREE Prime 3 times, which I know is near impossible. The first time was when they initially launched it. Then I got it a few years later, and when I tried to cancel, they kept adding on more days-yay! The last time was a few months ago, which came in handy for exactly 2 items I mailed, and they dd get there overnight. I'm pretty sure they're done with me about now.(lol) It helps with the shipping sometimes, but I was more concerned with getting the movies. Hopefully, they'll get things in order so your packages arrive on time. Sounds like they need to add lots and lots more people next year. Sending some hugs your way, and hope that you're feeling well, Gorgeous Greg. RO

  15. I'm not sure if this will be your last post before Christmas, but just in case, have a happy one (if you do celebrate, which seems the case)! I hope all your gifts will get home on time!

  16. I think all the deliveries have been delayed. I have the Target Red Card and I get free 2-day shipping with it, and they haven't been on time either. Still, I'd rather online shop than go to the mall! I don't set foot in any mall Thanksgiving til after the New Year!

I haven't seen anything on Impulse. Is that the video with Daniel Craig above? That looks interesting. Have a wonderful Holiday, Greg! :)

  17. I’ve never heard of Impulse but that clip is enough to interest me!

Wishing you a great reading week and a joyful holiday season

  18. That's exactly why I cancelled Prime while back. I got no benefit from it at all. I can still get free shipping just by ordering I think it's $25 now.

  19. Greg if you want to change your perspective on Amazon delivery, read The Simple Wild! It made me look differently at all the delivery guys! Merry Christmas!

  20. I am surprised, I haven't had any issues with Prime this time around. I got most of my stuff on time and even with no shipping which was great. I am sorry you had a bad experience. I know the mail and shipping has been so bad with the storms in the middle of the country.

I am hoping to watch the Witcher and Stranger Things this weekend.

Have a wonderful Christmas Greg! Happy Reading! xx

  21. I like those sea rock harpies! I just ditched Prime too.

  22. My Christmas shopping is pretty easy because I really only have to buy gifts for my son. Everyone else gets a big chocolate bar and a Barnes and Noble gift card. Ha ha. ๐ŸŽ

I love the space station ambient. I have always wanted to have an extra room that I could make into an authentic looking bridge. It would be the perfect background track. ๐Ÿš€

I love the Snow Field image. Art like that makes one's imagination run wild. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Have a wonderful Christmas week. ๐ŸŽ„

  23. I love the art for this week. I am not a fan of all the late holiday preparations but I can't seem to get myself to get things done any earlier. It does seem like delivery with Amazon tends to take longer than their promised time quite often. Plus they have raised the price pretty high. I hope you have a great holiday!

  24. Great images, as usual. I like Unicorn Rider.

I am going to check out Impulse. Enjoy your episodes.

Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog. Have a great holiday!

  25. Not with Amazon itself, but other companies, I've had a lot of trouble with shipping & deliveries this festive season - paying for express shipping, and most definitely not getting that service. I bet this time of year is just manic for the delivery services.

Ooo… Thanks for sharing the ambience videos. I do quite enjoy these myself, usually going for more nature ones, but will have a look at those shared for sure.

I also like the pulp fiction cover too; interesting perspective.

Wishing you a lovely week, and happy holidays!

  26. I've been very lucky with Amazon Prime. Everything was delivered when they said it would be. In one case it actually arrived a week early. Hope you have a great holiday and a great week!

  27. I really started to use Prime for the movies/books/graphic novels/magazines this year but I agree- they're playing fast and loose with that 2 day shipping promise. And they don't tell you until it's really too late that it will take 3 days (or longer).

Although, now that I'm in WA - right near Amazon - I get most things in 1 day.

  28. I've been having bad luck with Amazon this year too. Shipping that takes too long and then more and more it seems like my items are damaged or are poor quality. I might have to make a change in 2020. Oh well, I hope you have a wonderful holiday, Greg. :)

  29. Hope you had a good Christmas!
Our postal service was breaking, I think, under the strain of Christmas deliveries... Something that'd usually take 1-2 days was taking almost a week. Amazon took a hit here too. If it wasn't delivered by a courier, it was super late. Sigh.
