Sunday Post #202

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

Last week was 4th of July and it was pretty nice weather. I had a good reading week - I have 5 books going right now which is something I never do- but nothing was grabbing me and it just happened. Honest. I'm happy to report however that one took off for me and so it's off to the races. I also received some killer book mail this week- 5 (yes 5) ARC's from ALA courtesy of the always awesome Shannon at It Starts At Midnight! Thanks Shannon!! And my giveaway win from For what It's Worth also arrived- a grand spanking new copy of Song of the Current. Needless to say I have some awesome reading ahead. My book mail gets are below under New Arrivals.

Still watching Shetland (awesome) and I started Fortitude on recommendation of I Wish I Lived in a Library. Freaky!

I reviewed All Systems Red this past week, which was great. I also posted flash fiction- A Hidden Truth- on Monday and I'll have a new one up this Mon as well. This time I'll be finishing up On The Run with Part III- I had several readers ask me what was next after Part II, so here it is. And I'll have my Jon Snow discussion too.

  1. Yes, thanks to you Greg, I'm almost finished binging on Orphan Black. Phenomenal program! Wow! You sure went way back with The Three Roads. Makes me wanna break out my old Archie Comics from back in the day. I had no idea that you could find pics like that on Pinterest, and it's very cool! You find some really neat stuff! Happy Saturday and Sunday! Hugs...RO

    1. Ooh I'm glad you're liking Orphan Black. Love that show.

Thank you, hope you're having a great weekend.

  2. If I ever start watchings films and tv series instead of just reading, I do plan to look at Fortitude. I've avoided everything about it so I know virtually nothing about plot but I like the idea of the isolated setting.

  3. I have no idea how you are juggling 5 books. I can only do 1 book and 1 audio at a time. I am glad one finally caught and kept your interest though.

    1. I never do that many, I'm usually a one book at a time person. Somehow weirdly I started 5 books, and now I gotta juggle 'em!

  4. Your book mail looks awesome! I'm looking forward to your Jon Snow discussion- new GoT next Sunday!! :D Jon's always been one of my favorite characters, even in the books, and I can't wait to see where his arc goes.

  6. Okay, DYING at Helena and Kira eating peanut butter and sausage. It seemed so NORMAL until the sausage hahahha. Also, is Helena PREGNANT!? Damnnnn. I won't lie, 5 books at once sounds like a nightmare. I am curious to know which one finally captured your attention! (And, tbh, the ones that didn't hahah.)

Glad that there will be more flash fiction! I need to know what happens to No Name and Anna and Hamilton ;) And The Three Roads... that looks like a terrible situation. Assuming that the position she finds herself in is the aftermath of the murder, not the passion, anyway. Or both, maybe both. Hope you enjoy all of your books, too! I have a feeling you'll read them before I do, with the exception of ODT!

    1. I know, right? Only helena would do something like that. And yes she is pregnant- sorry! I guess that's a spoiler!!! Okay one of the five was The Collapsing Empire- but I finished and now I think I'm good. NOW I have One Dark Throne and I need to read that- so the other four left are gonna wait.

Tomorrow the flash fiction will be up. And thanks! I'm so glad you're looking forward to it. Yes that is an awkward position, to say the least. :)

And I'm imagining you're done with ODT already and I'm just starting. I need to get my ass moving!!!

Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.

  21. I did start watching Fortitude as the setting looks amazing and it ticks all my boxes but for reasons I can't remember I stopped watching it, then the second series started here and I think I'll do a binge and watch it all back to back.

  25. Congrats on the new books! I still need to read Three Dark Crowns but I know so many people dying to read the sequel. I am usually reading at least 3 books at a time but lately I've been stuck on some and starting others so it's around 5 books as well. :)

  27. It's nice when you find a book you can't put down! Hope the rest of the books are that way. I never used to read more than one book at once but now I prefer it that way. I wonder why that is. I think it may be because I feel like I am jumping through some sort of worm hole or portal. I can go to Hogwarts, or 18th century Scotland, or present day at any time. Ok, enough rambling. Have an amazing week.

  28. Glad to hear you had nice weather for the 4th. We're still battling a massive heat wave here. It's soooo HOT! It was 114 degrees her yesterday, hotter than Palm Springs was! It's a bit cooler today, only supposed to get to 106 but you can't do anything but stay inside with the air conditioner on or swim in the pool.

You've had a great book week! 5 books at the same time? I hope you love them all. Great post, Greg! :)

    1. It was nice! And yikes that IS hot! 114?? I'd melt. :)

I think you're right, the AC or the pool would be the best options! I thought it got hot here at times but we don't hit those temps. Hope it cools off a bit for you!

And I know- 5 books? I never do that! Luckily I'm making my way through. :) Have a super week!

    1. It did turn out to be a good ARC week. :)

And yes I've alreadf noticed a few of them are falling by the wayside. I almost never read that many, but luckily I found one that grabbed me and now I'm good to go.

  34. I also started juggling multiple books and usually in different formats (ebook, audio & paperback). But right now I have 2 ebooks, one is an ARC I'm struggling with. Part of me wants to DNF it but I'm sort of still curious about it. So it's been put aside for now. I love the images you found for this week. I can imagine different stories behind each one. I hope you have a great week!

    1. I ended up with so many in the process because I couldn't find one that grabbed me! Then I managed to finish one and I think I'm back on track.

  35. What good looking books. Reading multiples must be going around because I've got 2 going to - and I hate it! I always love looking at the artwork your featured. I am also LOVING this season of Orphan Black and Helena is one of my faves. I'm always amazed that even though all the characters are played by the same great actress, they seem like different people - she's very talented.

  42. It sounds like a great book hauling week for you Greg! Awesome. I love that ‘The Salt Line’ cover, very pretty. And I heard some great things about ‘A Map For Wrecked Girls’.
Five books at the same time? Wow!! I just had a discussion post about that this week. I’m happy if I’m reading one book.. I’d love to read at least two.. But I just can’t seem to manage it all that well.
Have a great week and happy reading!

  43. I love the cover of Obsidian and Stars. I've heard good things about the Secret History of Us nd A Map for Wrecked Girls ... so good reading ahead! The Valerian clip was cool. I am SO mad that I'll be out with friends on Sunday and will miss the GoT season opener in real time -- well, I'll have fun with friends & I can catch up on the show, but you know what I mean.

  47. I have Ivory and Bone on my TBR; I keep forgetting about it but prehistoric is a period I like ever since I had read Jean Auel's series back in the day. Song of the Current sounds good; I like how there's a pirate angle. Have a good Monday.

  48. I'm so glad you're enjoying Fortitude! We're almost done with the 2nd season and are really liking it though it is creepier and bloodier than the first season. I think Shetland is next on the list. I love the setting for it. Awesome book mail! Song of the Current looks good though I"m strictly basing that on the cover! Have a great week!

  49. Nice pictures you've curated there! I especially like the last two; they have a sort of Star Wars vibe going on. And I'm glad that at least one of your books really drew you in this week. It's always frustrating to be in a bit of a slump.
