Sunday Post #198

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

2nd week of June! Wow.  And it's been nice too. Sun all week. I rebounded a bit with my reading and stayed away from Netflix- kinda. I read Grit and am in the middle of Brave New Girl right now- I think I'm going to read Dangerous Girls next.

I've been reading a ton of thrillers all year (some of you have noticed) and very little SF. So I was kinda surprised this week for Top Ten Tuesday to find some SF stuff that I didn't know about, and I'm happy to report that my SF TBR is nicely replenished.

I reviewed One Of Us Is Lying this past week.  Next week is Grit,  a very nice debut.

The art you've found this week is great. The telekinesis pic really stood out for me.

  2. When I was preparing my TTT post for next week, I noticed that I'm very short on horrors on the tbr that don't have zombies. Might be time to hunt a few down I think. This week has felt like the middle of winter which suits me just fine!

  8. I like The Girl in the Rain pic above-- would make for varied flash fiction!

Glad to hear your SFF tbr is replenished. I know it's your go-to genre.

I was thinking of watching Luther (I like the main actor) but the seasons are so short there, I wasn't sure if there were enough shows done to make a good binge. I guess the answer is yes :)

Have a good week and stay cool!

    1. You're right- that would be a good flash fic prompt! And yes it feels good to have some new SF. :)

Luther is good, the main actor is phenomenal, and the villains are nasty (just forewarning). I think it's a good binge. I actually liked the later seasons being shorter, as I don't want to spend 10 hours on every season.

  10. I need to read more thrillers - I really enjoy them but for some reason only pick them up rarely. I'm glad you've found a ton this year to like! The artwork as usual is beautiful and it does really fire the brain. The more futuristic images had me longing for an intergalactic life and feeling little melancholy that we won't get there in my lifetime. Sigh.... Where did that come from?!? Dang beautiful, imaginative artwork!

    1. I have found a lot of good thrillers this year, so far. Maybe it's just because I'm reading them more? I seem to go in phases though- this year seems to be thriller phase for sure!

And I know what you mean about the art. SF art has always appealed to me for that sense of wonder. I would love to have an intergalactic life but we're not going to see that , are we?

  12. The Brave New Girl cover is intriguing. I am going to start watching the Downton Abbey series soon. Unfortunately, it is not on Netflix. I have to check out the DVDs from the library. I only get a week to watch a whole season. Thank goodness I am on summer break!

  20. Glad you found more time for reading this week. I tried to do better but only read two books. I kind of blame that on watching the new Beauty and the Beast. I also watched episodes of I Love Lucy because I needed some humor in my life.

I have never been to a Comic Con (aside from my library's) but hope to go to a real one some day so I am curious about what tips you'll be sharing. I was in Indianapolis at their convention center for a library conference while Indiana Comic Con was going on and it was hilarious because we had cosplayers pointing at us and saying "look, it's a librarian".

  22. Ohh, curious to hear your thoughts on Brave New Girl! I liked it, despite some of it being a little ridiculous haha. Also, I finished One of Us is Lying last night, and you were right, SO good! I will say, the end was... mildly underwhelming? But overall, I liked it (especially the characters!) so much that I didn't care. And I hope you love Dangerous Girls! It's a trip haha.

Looks like that Telekinesis girl got caught on the Go-Sci ring during Praimfaya. Sad. She's going to be up there for at least 6 years and 7 days... The Cabin and Waiting to Land remind me of the Ark too. I keep telling myself that I am going to watch something new on Netflix, but instead... well, you know. One of these days haha. Glad the weather has been nice there! It was cold and rainy here, but now it's supposed to be 90 and sunny for the next few days, which I love, because pool weather! Hope it stays nice there too :D

    1. I think my thoughts on Brave New Girl will be similar to yours. It's perfectly serviceable, not bad even, but yeah a little ridiculous. But I'm only halfway through so I can't say for sure yet... Glad you liked One Of Us Is Lying. I was glad they didn't go with some ridiculously convoluted uber- plot to explain it, even if aspects were a little iffy.

I love that Telekinesis pic, and you're right. She could be floating up there on the Ark. :) She's gotta long wait! Are you still on your rewatch? I would say you gotta watch 12 Moneksy so I have someone to discuss it with, but it's not on netflix. :(

      Enjoy the pool!
