Sunday Post #175

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

New Years Eve! It's hard to believe that Christmas is in the rear view mirror already. Are you doing anything fun? I'm actually looking forward to a quiet night for New Years- and as much as I love the holidays, I'm kinda ready for them to be done? Hopefully 2017 will be a better year than 2016 was...

I did a bit of reading this week and did a little Netflix-ing. I've been trying to find a new show and so far have had mixed results. But... January means the return of The 100 so life is good.

Also I've been thinking about my first review of the New Year and which book I wanted it to be, and I decided on... Starflight! So my review will be on Thursday. Other than that I also shared some movie thoughts and had the usual Top Ten and whatever else. Now it's the last day of the year. Happy New Year!!!

  2. I hate this day more than all others except our stupid bonfire night! So many fireworks go off that you can't hear the TV unless you wear headphones so that is the plan tonight...maybe start a new TV series or watch a few films!

I like the Star Wars travel guide!

  3. I've been so hyped for The Lost City of Z, it better be good! I still have one more week of winter vacation and so far I've been going to the movies like crazy and binge watching at home, it's nice to have days off LOL!

  4. I didn't realize how much of a pressure it is to decide on which book to review first in 2017 until you mentioned it. Whelp.

    Happy New Year, Greg!

  5. An interesting Sunday post as always! I'm under pressure too about writing reviews! There are 4 reviews am yet to write and I dunno which one to go for first!I like the last four water/ocean related art a lot! Yes daring mermaids are awesome ^_^ Happy Happy New Year 2017 Greg..Hope you have an amazing year ahead!

  7. Something jumped out at me-- with your pulp cover-- I used to watch Honey West on tv in mid-60s,vand even had a Honey West "Barbie doll". Lol ☺

I love the cover of Starflight.. and I just love covers in general, so I should do your fun cover meme in the new year! Maybe šŸ˜‰ I too am so over the chaos of the holidays. I cringe from all the look back features on tv of who died, and what horrible actions happened in the past year. A downer-- I'm crsving some quiet reading and introspection right about now. Hope 2017 is good to you, Greg.

    1. So Honey West was a thing? I had no idea. It does always amaze me though how I have no problem finding pulp covers- there were so many!!

Anytime you want to do the cover meme feel free. I do enjoy coming up with covers it might be one of my favorite things every week.

    2. So who's posting the weekly cover topics since Sugar & Snark seem to be on a break? Is it chosen ahead of time? Thanks-- I've decided to join for some weekly fun.

  13. Happy New Year, Greg! Please how do you get the topics for Cover Characteristics? I can't seem to find a list and it doesn't look like she is doing it anymore.

Now that Christmas movies are over I can get back to Netflix watching :) Haven't binged watched anything in a while and need to finish Fuller House season 2 :)

Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!!

    1. Happy New Year!! You know I just make up my own topics for CC as it's been on hiatus for months. I imagine it's coming back at some point? But don't know. So you can do your own topics if you want... or if you ever want to know what topics I'm doing let me know. Kristen over at Metaphors & Moonlight does her own topics too, and occasionally we do the same ones.

      Delete
    2. Ok, I might do that same thing, I saw you do it a few times and wanted to join in this year but like you said has been on hiatus. I will check out Kristen's topics maybe I can do it with you. Might start doing them next week.

    3. Hey Michelle! Yeah I'm just winging it- this week I'm doing Night in the City. Trying to keep it going as it's a fun meme, assuming that Sugar & Snark are coming back. If they don't I'll drop it at some point. But for now...yeah Kristen occasionally lets me know topics she's doing and we coordinate. Other weeks we do our own thing. Would love to see you jump in- it's pretty relaxed. :)

  14. Your First Book looks interesting....and I love your Star Wars Travel Guide. So sad about "Princess Leia." Sigh.

I had trouble finding a Netflix show this week, too. I watched the whole first season of Paranoid, and it was okay, but not a favorite. Then, today, I settled into The Crown and watched half of the season. I'm going back for more.

Enjoy your week...and the New Year. Thanks for visiting my blog.

That artwork is gorgeous! I've been having a hard time finding a new Netflix show to watch. I just started Colony and The Magicians but neither are really drawing me in. I even read The Magicians years ago but it must have been too long ago, I guess. I guess that just means more time to read! :D

  29. Happy New Year! We had a quiet New Year's Eve which was fine with me :) I've been trying different Netflix shows with not much success. That's okay, though, since everything starts coming back this week anyway. Hope you have a great week!

  30. We had a quiet New Year's Eve too. Today will be rather quiet too, I think. I am not feeling up to going out and I know my daughter wants to have a Harry Potter movie marathon. We're only into the first movie, so we'll see how far we make it today. :-)

I hope you have a very Happy New Year, Greg. I look forward to your review of Starflight!

  36. Happy New Year, Greg! I feel about 2016 about the same as you and I've got this horrible cold I just can't shake, so I welcome feeling better and 2017!

Love the Star Wars travel guide! And can't wait to see Rogue One! And your first book of the year sounds great, so I downloaded a copy! I don't read enough science fiction, thanks for the recommendation. Lost Girls sounds good too! I haven't decided on my first book yet, but going to crack the spine on one tonight.

Have a great rest of the week!

  37. I feel the same, the holidays are fun, but it's also nice to have them all over and things go back to normal again. I am looking forward to your review of Starflight, I keep going back and forth on whether I want to order it or not, so it will be nice to read another review for it. I didn't really put any thought into my first review of 2017, just scheduled posts like I normally do. But now that i think about it, it is a good review luckily.

That Star Wars travel guide looks great! Those mermaid pictures are nice too. Have a great week and a happy 2017!

  38. The holidays are nice, but now I'm in the anxious/worry zone. Already thinking about things I have to do on Monday. I wish I had a few more days. I am a bad show watcher. I hate wasting time on a show I discover I don't really like and then quit, but I recently watched How to Get Away With Murder and I loved it! Perhaps it's worth a try after The 100. Happy 2017!

  41. AWESOME post, Greg!!

I have "Starflight" on my TBR, and hope to get to it this year. Looking forward to your review!!

That was a GREAT song! Perfect for the New Year!

The trailer reminds me SO much of Indiana Jones! It's really uncanny. Of course, I've been a Harrison Ford fan for years!

That Star Wars Travel Guide is TERRIFIC!! I'm going to check it out in the larger size. How cool would it be to actually be able to travel to all of those planets? Lol.

Velhagen's art is absolutely incredible! He concentrates more on the overall landscape, whereas Frazetta really concentrates on the human figure.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Sure hope that 2017 is a much better year for all of us!!

    1. Thanks Maria! I'm halfway through starflight and so far so good. I don't love it but I am liking it. Glad you liked the song- I love that band!

I agree- I'd LOVE to g oto those planets. Well some of them. lol

I think you're right now that you mention it- Velhagen does seem to be all about the landscape and the setting, whereas frazetta is known for his figures (and their lack of dress which I often joke about)!

Hope you had a great New Year!!

  44. Oh wow! Thanks for sharing the Star Wars Travel Guide. This was the first year in a while I didn't deem the weather too cold to go downtown for New Year's Eve, but having Sebastian at home for the first time in about five years was important enough to keep me home. Ha ha. I love going out, but being home for a quiet night doesn't bother me anymore. I am looking forward to what the new year brings with your blog. Here's to a better 2017!

  45. Ugh, I'm so hesitant when it comes to book adaptations..Lost City if A was a fascinating book that could work brilliantly as a movie...Or could just be hopelessly cheesy....We shall see!

  46. I would like to read The Wanderers. I might even have a copy on my Kindle. I will have to look.
We did some Netflixing here yesterday. I look forward to what my husband will drum up. He is usually the one to line up the programs as I have more interested in watching than sifting through the hoards of shows/movies to find something good, but he quite enjoys it. Happy New Year.
