Sunday Post #165

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

This week has been hit or miss- started out nice (and warm) but then around midweek it cooled way off. The trees are really starting to turn now and we've got yellows and golds, even reds. The cold really can speed up the process, sometimes you can tell the difference from one day to the next. As October winds down I find that I haven't been reading many scary books- I'm still getting through books I hoped to read in Sept. - so I hope everyone else is getting their scary on.

It's been busy on the blog and I've been splitting my time between books and Netflix- yes the Netflix ban is over! A friend of mine from Chicago came in this past weekend and we got to catch up- that was nice. Other than that not too much happening. I didn't have a lot of extra stuff for this week but then Pinterest happened- how many boards can you have up at one time?- and I discovered a bunch of cool stuff, so I shared some of it below.

This week I reviewed Replica and am reading The Wanderers- hoping to have that review up next week. My discussion post on Wednesday will be- How Scary Is Too Scary- so I hope you can come by and share your thoughts on scary reads.

The Wanderers (The Wanderers, #1)

Song of the  day...

I'm listening to Balligomingo again and discovered some of their remixes- this one is a bit more upbeat than some of their stuff, almost like a techno dance track, but I kinda like it.

  1. Yay for the Netflix ban being over. I've decided I need to do something about getting it before The Gilmore Girls return! I've seen two series advertised recently which look amazing so hopefully they're on here in Australia as well as in the US!

It's been getting warmer here, but today (interestingly) it's raining and cold. So... I LOVE it!

    1. The ban is definitely over. lol I can't stay away from it for too long. And I had heard that Netflix had expanded to Aus- I hope you have a good selection.

  2. I haven't exactly been banning Netflix, but find I'm spending less time there. This week, no time on it. Week before, I had started a show called Luther that I enjoyed.

I'm excited that toward the end of this week, The Fall will have a new season. Have you watched it?

I am very much looking forward to Gilmore Girls resurrecting themselves....I have a feeling it won't be enough for me, as there will be four "seasons" that will be followed by a drought.

Enjoy your week, and the cooler weather; I'm definitely loving it! Thanks for visiting my blog.

    1. I spent a lot less time there lately- although with the new episodes I imagine I'll be there more. For a while. :) I have not Seen The Fall although I think I've seen it on my home page- so maybe it's recommended for me? And you mentioned Luther and I've seen that rec'd as well- is it kinda like Marcella in that it's a detective show?

  5. There are definitely a lot of beautiful colors outside this time of year. I love the way it looks.
Sounds like a great discussion. I’ll try to come by Wednesday!
I love those Star Wars pictures! Ow.. and the POP! they are all soooo cute.
    Have a great week Greg!

    1. I love fall too- the colors and everything. I hope you can make it by on Wed- seems like a good month to discuss scary reads. :)

I need that Jyn Erso pop! lol

  6. Yeah, I feel like I started out October with all these Halloween-ish books I planned to read, and even though I did read a few about vampires, I do that every month so that doesn't even really count lol. I managed to read Dracula, but that's kind of it for scary or Halloween-ish.

I'm pretty sure you can have as many boards as you want, haha. I've seen people with like a hundred. And I have 36, plus a few private ones. So I'm sure you're fine lol.

And that's awesome that you got to catch up with a friend :-)

    1. See I wanted to read scary in Oct but I didn't really have books planned out, and I guess that didn't help. My reading slowed down too. But I just started one that I hope is a bit creepy, so we'll see- maybe I can salvage a bit...

I have a few boards now, and I find more stuff all the time. Crazy. But it's been nice for my art searches. :P

And yeah it was nice to catch up, it had been over a year. We're all so spread out, all my friends from childhood and college seems like.

The changing colors of the trees and leaves always makes me happy and nostalgic at the same time :)
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading (and pinteresting...)

    1. Netflix sucks away so much reading time- if I let it. So I stayed away for a while- although with new episodes I'm back to watching. :) Gilmore Girls sounds fun, I've never seen but I know a lot of people love it.

  12. I was on Pinterest for hours yesterday. It is a great place to look for library program ideas and I love creating boards for my programs.

I haven't read any scary books this month though I did read several mysteries. Today I plan to watch It'sthe Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown which is more my speed than horror at this time of year :)

I will be checking out your review of Replica. Still on the fence about reading it.

Hope you have a great week and some nicer weather.

    1. I could spend hours there too (and have lol). Mostly I'm looking at art although I want to spend some time on food but haven't gotten there yet. :) I can see it being great for program ideas though, absolutely.

I have read woefully few scary reads. I don't like horror but I do like a good tense read- but just don't have very many on deck. Ah well. And Charlie Brown is good any time!

Replica is good, not great. I did like the dual format.

  13. You will be both sorry and elated that you have found Satan's Picture Book. Don't go in without a crucifix and some holy water, or you will never find your way back out. Ha ha. We had the same fall in temps. I hate having to turn the heat on, but I hate having to close the windows even more. I am a fresh air lover. I am looking forward to your Dead Girls Society review. The synopsis certainly makes it sound interesting. Have a fab week. :)

  16. haha I laughed out loud at the Star Wars meme. I mean, come on, who doesn't love Star Wars!? lol The leaves have changed around here too. I love how beautiful it is around here in the Fall. I'm hoping we don't get any storms because then it blows all those pretty leaves off the trees and I'mnot ready for them to go away yet. lol! The weather has definitely cooled off too. We went from a day in the low 80s to a day in the 50s. Yuck! I'm a sissy about the cold. Hope you have a great week!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Is that great or what? And yeah I don't like it when the storms do that either- then you gotta rake em (or not lol). Sounds like our weather too- we've had days in the upper 70's/ low 80's yet but then nights are 50's or even 40's. Although we're more in that lower range now.

  17. Pinterest! Oh man, I have like 30 boars or more, like thousands of pins and all about the geeky things. LOL! I'll never ever get bored of Pinterest. We had an unseasonably hot and humid day yesterday in the midst of a rain storm, it went up to like 25 degrees! Other than that though, things have cooled off and with the wind most of the leaves have already fallen here!

LOVE the Millennium Falcon artwork especially but ALL THE STAR WARS THINGS :D Have a great week Greg! xx

Ha ha I didn't hear that lol. But I understand... I actually didn't like the new Star Wars movie that much, I think a lot of it has to do with childhood and nostalgia. For me anyway.

      Have a great week Trish!

  20. I'm assuming you're happy that it's got a lot cooler... We're still having weather significantly warmer than the seasonal average, which I'm really glad about. Glad you're enjoying Netflix again - I tend not to bother as I have a habit of falling asleep in front of the TV so don't watch all that much.
I love the Star Wars artwork - many thanks for sharing it and have a great reading and watching week, Greg:)

    1. I do like the cooler temps, by and large. It's the really cold stuff (plus snow) I'm not looking forward to. Ha ha and I can fall asleep in front of the TV too... it's funny, if I happen to watch Netflix or something on my computer I don't seem to have that problem, I guess getting comfortable in the living room makes me more likely to snooze. :)

Glad you liked the Star Wars stuff!

  21. Wow, you've been busy. Yay for no more NetFlix ban!
The weather is cooling off here too though we had 2 days last week in the high 70s. smh Our leaves are turning but thanks to an ongoing drought, they aren't as vivid as some years.

  22. I tell ya', I am feeling a little jealousy over your changing leaves. I love the colors of fall but we don't really get that here, although we are getting some nice temperature changes.
The Wanderers has been on my list for awhile, so I look forward to seeing what you think of it.
Love that you share a pulp fiction cover. I am a big fan of Hard Crime books, mostly because of those wonderful covers.

    1. Isn't raking the best (in my sarcastic voice)? Ha ha although to be honest I kinda like it, it's nice to be out in the wind. I used to love burning leaves as a kid but now we can't do that here, although they still can out in the country.

  38. I...I don't even want to think about a Netflix ban. It's just too scary to even think about! ;) We are into full fall mode in my neck of the woods, but thankfully winter is still a ways away (we usually get a couple of snow days each winter, during which time the entire city shuts down in a panic and declares the coming snowpocalypse...)!

Glad to hear your Netflix ban is over! It wouldn't go down well in my house, not for me as I'm happy to read but the other fmaily members!

I can get addicted to Pinterest too. As a school teacher it's a go to for ideas in my classroom - themes and activities wise.

  40. I sometimes think I would quite like to have Netflix, but then I remember how much time I have had for other things since I stopped watching TV - like watching some of the 50 or so DVDs I own and still haven't watched - and think "maybe not". Still it would be nice, just occasionally..

I've been watching way more tv than reading this past week or so. Need to back track a few of your posts so I can get some new ideas!
