Sunday Post #124

I hope everyone's New Year is off to a good start. I had a good week, got a little reading in and things have calmed down with the holidays over. I love the wide open nature of a new year- the whole year is sort of spread before us and it feels like anything is possible. Will it be a good year? Who knows- but the potential is there. New books to read, new worlds to discover- and perhaps to create, if you write. I hope everyone's writing goes well this year.

Last week I discussed the new Star Wars movie (first discussion post of the year- it's not too late to come share your thoughts) and also reviewed Desperately Seeking Susan, a way fun movie. And of course Top Ten Tuesday which has become a regular for me.

This coming week I'm going to post my favorite movies and shows of 2015, as well as my thoughts on the new show Zoo and a film review of Escape from New York. My A Dance with Dragons re- read this week focuses on Melisandre- curious about the red witch? This chapter answers some questions even as it asks new ones. And my Bookcover Spotlight this week will be a Nancy Drew selection.

BOOKISH NEWS:

Books of Amber, Lady Knight Reads and The Overstuffed Bookcase are hosting a rewatch of The 100. The event is already underway and runs until Jan. 21- which is when S3 premieres. They're watching about 3 episodes a week plus a livewatch on Twitter. The 100 is available on Netflix and you can go here for all the info.

  1. That time travel show looks AWESOME. (Plus isn't that the dude out of Prison Break?! I loved that show). XD Happy new year to you too!! I love the possibilities of starting a new year and how fresh and ready for action everything feels. Hopefully that feel will stick with me throughout the months. ;D

Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!

  4. I'm extremely impressed with that Ewok village! I love lego and work very close to one of their stores. I'm always tempted to get one of their giant sets to build something.

I'm looking forward to seeing your post on your favorite movies and tv from 2015!

And thanks for sharing a link to my review of "Attachments"!

  5. Lindsey Stirling is awesome! I bought her album for a friend after seeing Roundtable Rival on YouTube, because I know she used to play the violin and for some reason automatically got the mp3 files from amazon, so I listened to it and ended up loving it. I don't watch her videos as much, but when I do I'm always impressed by the cinematography and costumes. Looking forward to The 100 returning and I hope you have a great year! :)

    1. I love Roundtable Rival is how I learned about her, had never heard of her before that, but a blogger posted the vid and I was like, cool.

I'm looking forward to the 100 also. Am tempted to do that 100 rewatch. :)

  6. The Ewok Lego village looks like such fun. I look forward your post on your favorite movies and shows of 2015. I hope you have a great week, Greg! We are enjoying a quiet Sunday at our house this weekend. I am hoping for more rain, but we'll see.

  7. Oh, Lindsey Stirling! That Skyrim piece of hers was one of the first I ever saw of hers and now I'm a firm fan. I hadn't heard The Last of the Giants before, but ooh, it is an atmospheric song. I'll have to remember that one when I'm looking for fantasy inspiration actually. It brings up such interesting pictures in my head. Thanks for sharing it!

    1. I'm pretty new to Lindsey Stirling but definitely a fan now. I like how she does the different fantasy songs, she must be a fan too!

I thought Last of the Giants was very atmospheric too, and with that video and all the snowscapes it really adds to the impact. Glad you liked it!

  8. A few shows I haven't heard of there, but I can relate to a few. I've enjoyed The 100 but both seasons I've seen have finished in a way that have made me think the next season will be tedious. (S2 wasn't so I'm hoping S3 isn't as well!)

I couldn't get into Zoo but must admit I only watched the one episode. It wasn't very popular here in Australia and after a lot of promotion it was moved to very very late at night after only a few weeks.

    1. The 100 I enjoyed but S2 was much better for me than S1. Zoo I was super skeptical about but tried it one night for a lark, and surprisingly I liked it, but I had to get a few episodes in to be sure. the first one is iffy because the premise is so silly, frankly.

I have tons of TV shows I watch but have just really started watching movies again and am always looking for recommendations. Have a great week!

  13. The beginning of this post is so inspiring! There is something so refreshing about the new year. Even if it doesn't HAVE to be a new year to start new things, it just feels more possible and motivational somehow. And Lindsey Stirling is ridiculously talented!

I think as bloggers too there's an added dimension of where we want the blog to go, what we want to write about. It's such a creative endeavour...

  14. I feel exactly the same about New Years, they feel exciting to me and a chance to start with a clean slate. Love them and its refreshing to see you think the same as most people I know dread them!

Ohhh and Legends of Tomorrow looks very promising!

    1. Yes, exactly! There's just a sense of potential... a clean slate, i like how you put that. And it's early enough in the year that the year isn't all screwed up yet- ha ha! Hope you have great Sunday!

I'm reading the 5th Wave now and with the movie being released the 22nd and you being such a big sci-fi fan I was wondering if you had posted a review. I ran a search but it didn't come up. 20. I just put away a 32gal container of legos I bet I can make a ewok village with that lol.

I love Lindsey Stirling, you need to check out Tyler Davis (I believe that is her name) she does all types of gaming music and a complete Legends of Zelda soundtrack. It's amazing. I listen to both of them at work when I design because it's relaxing. Lindsey also does a really cute Pokemon video.

I want to do the Top Ten but since I have my own meme on Tuesday I don't want it to get lost that day. I am still trying to see if I can fit it in.

Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  22. As a fan of Arrow and The Flash I am looking forward with cautious optimism to Legends of Tomorrow. I just hope the two original shows don't diminish in quality!

I like the idea of January being a new beginning. This time of year is hard for me as winter settles in but February is my most difficult month and the one I wish I could hibernate through. I love spring and summer so winter is a long slog. I growl at people who get excited about the snow :)

I can't remember if I visited your Top Ten post or your Star Wars post so I'll have to check those out. I also look forward to your list of top movies. Have a great week!

I am not a fan of February either, it's a very bleak month here and always cold. I could do without it. I am looking forward to spring and the growing things. :)

      Have a great week Christina!!

  23. The Lego Ewok village is cute! I wonder if we'll see Ewoks in either of the next movies? Looking forward to your fave movies and TV shows of 2015, should be fun.
