Sunday Post #52 Happy July 4th!

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

Wow, what a week! A lot going on, but I did finish a book and got a good start on another. I posted an older review for Rutherford Park as the new book just came out, and a discussion post last week- thanks to everyone who came by and commented. COYER is in full swing- including the Fun in the Sun readathon this weekend. I didn't have any COYER reviews this past week but I have a few coming up...

I'm thinking of doing an occasional feature where I spotlight bookstores- there's nothing like a good bookstore, and I like nice indie stores as well as used bookstores. I did a post like that last summer, and with vacation aproaching it reminded me of my favorite "getaway" bookstores. So you may see this pop up from time to time. That inaugural post from way back last summer can be found here

AROUND THE BLOGOSPHERE:

Go check out Anya's Sci-Fi and Fantasy Friday linky- there's a linky for reviews as well as giveaways and discussions. Very nice! And one of the prize this week is a copy of The Falconer! Some great reviews over there this week...

Ellen over at Glamorous book Lounge has been reviewing movies lately. You can check out her posts here

Melanie's Muse has an awesome readalong going on for the fourth and fifth Ice and Fire books. Her latest post is here

    1. You too Rita, I like the idea of spotlighting bookstores- I don't need much of an excuse to visit them, but now I can claim I'm scouting them for my blog LOL! Yeah right! :)

    2. Greg, I like the spotlighting bookstores idea. I "stumbled" upon quite a few last spring when we made a trip to the NW. It was really fun to specifically seek out bookstores and wander around.

  2. I hope you had a good 4th of July - the US way of celebrating independence is so much more festive than we have in Finland for our independence day.
Kind of bummed too that US is out of the world cup, but I'm now cheering for Brazil (my favorite team when I was a kid) and Netherlands :)
    Have a good week!

  3. That new feature seems really great. I'd love to see all those pretty bookstores even though a little piece of me will die. I wish one day to visit some bookshops around the world. I mean we have nice ones here, but I hate that whenever you get inside there is someone near you. I wish they'd let me browse through the shelves. But yeah, I've got library for that. Anyhow great post! :)

    1. Thanks Tanja. I love bookstores and could spend hours in them... there are several in England I'd like to see, and probably throughout Europe there are some amazing ones I'm sure.

And yeah sometimes you just need the place to yourself! :)

    1. Cool, have a great time! It's fun that there are several bloggers from this area who can relate to all the same places. :) You'll probably know the bookstores I feature, whenever I get around to them.

  8. I love the idea of the bookstore feature...there is something so wonderful and nostalgic about them. When I enter my favorite mall and see a clothing store instead of the beloved bookstore that once was, I feel very sad.

Reminders of bookstores should lift our spirits.

Thanks for sharing your week...and for visiting my blog.

  9. We have no little indie books stores by us but if we go away and I find them I must stop in. That is a great idea to spotlight them :)

Have a great week Greg and happy reading!!!

    1. One of my favorite things, whether on vacation or otherwise, is to find a new bookstore. Once I see one I almost invariably have to go in and check it out... :)

  10. A bookstore feature would be great. We used to have a few around here, but we're now only down to Barnes & Noble. Even though I primarily use an e-reader, I still love looking in bookstores.

    Have a great week!

  11. Oh, I love your idea of spotlighting bookstores, how wonderful. My fave local bookstore moved and now it's 45 minutes away instead of 15. :(

  13. A feature on bookstores sounds lovely! We really don't have much here that isn't a chain so really unique bookstores are always fun to explore! I've added Rutherford Hall to my TBR and am looking forward to your review on the sequel. It's too bad about the US team. We're still watching but I don't feel quite as invested!

    1. Me too, US and then France losing it kindasapped my enthusiasm, although I probably will keep watching. I hope you like Rutherford PArk, i think it's quite good!

      I agree about bookstores!

  19. I really enjoyed an older Cat Patrick book, I'm keen to read more of hers and The Originals sounds good. I love seeing posts about people's local bookshops - Brit bloggers are often making me green with envy at the beautiful bookshops they post about! Certainly interested to see what's in your area. :) Have a great week!

    1. I stumbled across it last summer, and enjoyed it a lot- I think you may like it. I didn't think it was a series but then saw the sequel in the works- which is now out! I'm glad she decided to continue the story...

I've been thinking of doing a bookstore feature myself. It would be nice to venture out and visit some I rarely get to. Hmmm... might have to do that here soon!

  25. I would love to read some posts on your favorite bookstores. Hopefully with photos! I haven't done much traveling over the past couple of years, but I've thought it would be fun to make a point of visiting a bookstore in every city I go to.

  26. The bookstore idea is great! It's always great to point out bookstores to people who are local to that area and the rest of us can always gaze jealously at the beautiful places! :)

  27. I hope you have a great trip and get to relax (and read). I think the bookstore spotlight is a great idea! I wish we had more bookstores in my area, so it is good to support the ones that you have. Thanks for visiting my blog on Sunday (I'm just now getting around to visit everyone) and hope you have a great week!!

  28. I love the bookstore spotlight idea. And you could ask other bloggers to submit guest posts for bookstores near them, perhaps.

Sorry it's taken me so long to make a return visit! We're teaching our daughter to drive and I've got a big work project, so it's been harder than usual to squeeze out time to visit blogs.

I've been eying that Clockwork Key book on your blog for while now. I'm looking forward to your review; it looks cool.
