Sunday Post #397

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! As promised I have my loot below- I got a Barnes & Noble gift card and um may have bought a few extras as well. In other news- it's fascinating to me the differences in how countries are addressing the virus surges. Some have major restrictions while here it feels wide open.

have walking tours this week- also I reviewed Godzilla vs Kong and posted part three of To Love Is Human.

Tonight Virtual Japan is premiering a blossoms video in Kyoto.

I'm liking the idea of sharing a tweet occasionally to generate discussion.

  1. YAY Telegraph Club is a wonderful choice! I probably need to buy that myself one of these days, such a great book! I feel you with the restrictions versus... whatever the hell it is we're doing here. Just think, people in New Zealand and such don't even have to bother anymore. On account of they're not the worst and can follow directions for a finite period of time. I am tired.

Japan is gorgeous as always. The video of the cherry blossoms has also convinced me that if I ever DO get to go to Japan, I must go during cherry blossom season, it is just beyond beautiful!

  3. I hope you enjoy your new book loot, Greg! Book shopping is awesome but it's even better when it's "free money." :)

  4. This is the first time I saw Last Night at the Telegraph Club and it looks interesting! Definitely looking that up!!

  5. I love the eagle cam! The look on the mama's face when the dad almost landed on her, lol.

  6. I'm jealous of Australia and New Zealand. They have lives back to normal while the rest of the world is still stuck in this 'rona hell.

Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy your birthday loot!

  7. Oh my goodness! The Eagle cam video was hilarious. I am going to share it with as many people as I can. And I'm glad you got your birthday loot from B&N, hope it all turns out to be superb!

  8. Aside from the constant ringing in my ears (thanks, tinnitus), I hear EVERYTHING! I have to run a white noise machine to concentrate when I am awake and to fall asleep at night.

  9. B&N is always a dangerous place for me to go. I hope you enjoy everything you got. Have a great week!

  10. Well you have to get a few extras. I think that's a rule! Glad you had a good birthday! Love the Eagle cam! I always love any kind of zoo or nature cam and eagles are fascinating animals. Have a great week!

  11. I watched Godzilla vs. King Kong, but I couldn't get into it. I felt it dragged on in some places for too long.
Really love the cherry blossom video. Japan is so beautiful in the spring!

  12. I wonder if we'll be on lockdowns again in the future with the spread of variants. I hope we all get vaccinated in time to stave it off.

I read and loved Her Dark Lies by JT Ellison so I'd like to try Good Girls Lie sometime. Happy reading Greg! :)

  13. Love the eagle cam! Interestingly enough, earlier this week my family and I made it out to the Darlington, MD to where the bald eagles nest at Conowingo Dam - I've lived in the area for almost 10 years and this was the first time I visited, pretty amazing that such beautiful, magnificent creatures can be observed so close to home. We saw about a couple dozen, it was amazing, so I really appreciated the link!

  15. Last night at the Telegraph Club has a real Greg-like cover! I like the title as well and I hope you'll be able to tell us more about it soon! Birthday hauls are the best!

  16. Hope you enjoy your new books!! That twitter question is funny. I guess I don't hear all that stuff either. Not unless maybe it starts to hum really loud. Once I get use to noises in the house most of the time I don't even realize they are making noise.

Have a great day and happy reading!

  17. After the dreadful year we've all had - I think a few extras sound just what's needed! And thank you for that lovely eagle cam. I'd stand on the edge of my nest gazing out at that view, forgetting my mate incubating the eggs, too... Have a lovely week, Greg:)

  18. Eagle 1 to Eagle 2: "Will you just move that stupid tail out of my face?" 😂

I'm wondering how the Japanese cope with all those cherry trees! I mean, when they shed their petals, it must look like snow! Do they have an army of petal-collecting machines?

    Enjoy your new books!

  20. Great visuals!

I enjoy J. T. Ellison's books, and thought I must have read Good Girls Lie...but I haven't! So off I go to add it.

Enjoy your week and your outings. Stay safe. Thanks for visiting my blog.

  22. Happy Birthday! I always hear everything, I can hear it now and the ticking from something shaking on my desk while I type.

Last Night at the telegraph club keeps popping up. Looking forward to seeing what you think

Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  23. Bookstore gift cards are the best! And yeah, I can definitely always hear the fridge. And the TV. And the fan. XD

  26. Happy Birthday and yay to a gift card to buy books! I agree, things do see quite open here. A friend was watching Wrestlemania last night, and it's on again tonight and Florida was doing it big! I mean there was no 6 feet of separation, very few masks, and the crowd was over the top. It was like watching the superbowl! Hope you're feeling well and sending hugs to you, Gorgeous Greg! RO

  28. Happy birthday! Your spaceship video makes me think of the movie I went to see this weekend, Voyagers. It was pretty good, kind of a Lord of the Flies set in space and with girls. Have a great week!

  35. It was your birthday so of course you were allowed to overspend the gift tokens. We have just put a two week ban on all flights from India for two weeks because all our border cases were about 70% from there. Not many of us vaccinated so still got to be careful.

  36. I think there's a rule somewhere that you have to buy extra books when using a B&N gift card. ;-)

I was just on Gofita's Pages, where she reviewed Last Night at the Telegraph Club, coincidentally enough. I hadn't even heard of it before today but it sounds good.

    Enjoy your week!

  39. Oooh always fun to go book shopping! Hope you enjoy everything you picked up! I actually just saw Godzilla vs. Kong last night with the fam! I loved it, but I am not really into the universes of these movies lol - I think I've only seen one of the Godzilla and one of the King Kong movies so I am definitely no expert xD

  40. Oh, the Japanese cherry blossoms. So pretty!

I love a gift card to a bookstore. Best gift of all.

    Happy birthday!

  44. Yes, the differences in the pandemic responses have been interesting to follow. Just within the U.S. there are such huge variations. The schools in my daughter's district are about to go back to 5 days a week in-person next week (my daughter will still be virtual since that's the program we had signed up for). Hopefully it will go without a hitch. Your new books all look so good! I hope you are having a great week, Greg.
