This week my reading has been kinda ambivalent. As in, not much. I did watch the finale of The 100 though, and have mixed feelings (and about the season generally). Still, I love the show. Oh, and the news this week was that next season will be the last. I still have to finish The Rain and Big Little Lies. And... I'm still feeling the hangover from Black Spot. In other news, I was thinking about summertime memories this week- with it being August already, summer is going fast. Remember when summer seemed to last forever?  

That reminded me of a favorite memory. When I was a kid we used to vacation in a town about two hours or so north of us, and there's a National Guard camp there. Every year on our way up we'd pass these convoys of National Guard trucks and jeeps and whatnot. I used to love watching the convoys... truck after truck after jeep- it seems like they went on for miles.

I love ambient music and sometimes I just let this play. It's fun to just leave it on my screen and watch the fish- the only problem is the music seems to get a little repetitive. The following one is a new mix from JediMaster, who puts together pretty good ambient/ space mixes every month or so. This one is nice.

    Summer does seem to be zipping by too fast. I've just gotten used to the new rhythm and soon I will have to change things up and adapt again when the school year starts, I don't know if I'm ready! Lovely art picks this week, by the way. My favorite is the one with the giant eagle - now that is one big bird!

    When my friends and I were kids, summer did seem to last forever! Every day of the six week summer holidays was full of activity, going out walking and enjoying being out of school. If it rained, we were in each others houses playing with toys or as we got older, gossiping! I don't know where the time goes now though but I'm ready for the cooler weather!

    I am not depressed this summer because of that the summer has zipped right passed me. last year and the year before that was slow feeling to me. I had no idea that space ambient was a thing! Now I must go check it out.

    This summer is going by extremely fast. My favorite memories of Summer are from when I was a kid and would go camping with my Aunt & Uncle.

    There were a few things that marked every summer when I was a kid - block parties, playing in the fire hydrant, Dan the ice cream man, and going to the "Farm", which was just a place where we rented a bungalow in Upstate NY. Good times.

    I grew up in RI so most of my summer memroies are beach related and laying int he back of a sandy staion wagon on the way home - exhausted.

    I do think that I will always remember THIS summer though. It's been the best one I've had in years witht he concerts & other events in the park, the incredible weather & the amazing food from the farmers market.

    I was just thinking about that the other day--how summers seemed so endless. And now they go by so fast. I can imagine as a child loving seeing the convoys go by. I am an adult and still loving watching the military planes flying overhead taking off and landing from the nearby airfield. My daughter doesn't seem as fascinated. Maybe she's too use to it.

    One of my favorite summer memories was going camping with my parents in the Sierra Mountains, up near Donner Pass. It's so beautiful up there. We'd pitch our tent and I would either wander off on my own to write or read for hours on end . . . Such a different time than today. I loved being outdoors, so close to nature. Except at night when it was cold and I had to sleep in my sleeping bag on the hard earth (there was always a rock!). Haha. I especially loved it when it rained and we all crammed into the tent, and avoided touching the tent walls so the water wouldn't seep in. The thunder so loud, it shook the tent, as lightning lit up the sky.

    In 2000 My family and I went to Mackinac City and spent a doy on Mackinac Island. (It's hard to believe that was almost 20 years ago.) The next year was my cousin's wedding in Montreal. Now when I go up north it's a place near Oscoda. I guess those are my favorite summer memories. Thank you for sharing favorite memory.

    I always die for the art you find! But I love summer memories! My dad made us eat MREs on vacation to save a buck because there were 5 of us. Hahah my brothers would demolish them then demand more food. It was hilarious how perturbed my dad was at that. "They did eat them dear." Was my mothers reply. And I love Rex Stout!!

    I know, summer used to last now it flies right by. I like August though, it's a long month and the cooler mornings and evenings are a nice break from the heat. That's a nice summer memory. When we were little my mom would drive us to Florida almost every summer. I remember those days.
    I started watching Black Spot, I'm on episode 2.

    Somehow, as an adult, summer doesn't mean as much to me as it did when I was a kid! It's just too many days of too hot weather! But as a kid, I loved going to my grandparent's house at the beach.

    Summer memory as a Kid would be one we in august. My mom, my sister and I and my aunt, cousins and nanny would go to wildwood for the week. We would spend all day in the pool and walk the boardwalk. I would pick on doll I wanted to try and win in the arcade and play for tickets and at the end of the week my dad would join us. He would ask what I had picked and we would play until I got it. I always had so much fun those summers. I would love to do something like that with my family but money is stupid. ;) lol

    One of my favorite summer memories from childhood was our annual camping trip...back when the nightly event was the Fire Falls from Half Dome. Obviously not a thing that happens now...safety, and all.

    I'm so behind on The 100, but I was sad to hear it was ending so soon next season! I guess it's better that they are ending on their own terms instead of being cancelled. Agreed! The Summer is going by FAST! It will be time for me to get back home and school in a few short weeks!

    When I was a kid the Summer seemed to last a long time. Now it still seems to last a long time but only because I hate the hot weather. I would much rather have overcast, rainy days.

    I remember one summer, I spent the whole day sitting at my grandma's kitchen bar area just reading HP, I think it was The Half Blood Prince. My uncle would come for lunch and sit there and be amazed that I hadn't moved all day because I was so invested in the story.

    Summer ended for us on Monday and I had gotten so use to our summer routine that now that I'm on school mode, I'm dying from waking up so early.

    I've seen Wilder Girls around, I love the cover, I hope you enjoy it!

    I started Black Spot but I need to retry. I put it on before bed, could barely hear it so I put on subtitles, but then I noticed the subtitles didn't match the dubbed dialogue haha I need to watch it when I don't have the AC on and can actually hear it lol

    Summer does go fast. Trying to spend the remaining days with the grand kids. So not much reading is getting accomplished. Yeah, not real impressed with The 100 this season, but will watch next season. I did finish GoT and am looking for another series.

    I assume all these amazing forest pictures are brought to us by your Black Spot hangover too? They're fabulous, so at least there's a bright spot!

    Aww that is a nice memory! I am trying to think of a particular summer memory, but I don't know if I have just one? I have a lot of great memories from my summer swim team. During the school year, we had fun but it was so much more serious, so summer was just full of fun stuff!

    Love the giant bird, and "After Battle" is poignant.

    Summer memories: sleeping outside in the backyard with my Scottish terrier on guard duty. A week at Camp Fire camp. Backpacking with my family. Eating breakfast on the back stoop. Summer will always be my favorite season.

    Yeah you are right how summer used to to on forever. As kids I loved the river and sea and swimming at both. Hmm sounds like a similar reading week to myself.

    As a kid I couldn’t wait for summer. From when I was about 12 we were allowed to go to the beach on our own, it was about a half hour bike ride and every weekend a bunch of us would load up with soft drink & junk food and spend all day Swimming & surfing. It was pretty idyllic..if ‘dangerous’ by today’s standards since we were completely unsupervised & this was pre mobile phone days.

    I hate to think that summer is almost over. We had so much rain this year, I feel as if I never truly indulged in outdoor life. We finally finished Big Little Lies. I love the acting in that show! y favorite image this week is Fangorn Forest.

    We used to go camping in the summer and one year I totally wiped out my bike going down a hill. I've never been so bruised and battered. However, they are still good memories because my Dad was there. I was an only child and both Mom and Dad worked so summers got pretty lonely sometimes - probably where my love of reading kicked in so it's all good. Glad you have such awesome memories.

    This summer has gone by super fast!! As a kid we used to take a road trip every summer. Every other year we would drive to Oregon to visit our Grandparents. On non-Oregon years we would drive to a fun new place we hadn't visited before. My favorite was The Wisconsin Dells!

    I had many summers going to daycamp with my cousins and brother. Groups would go all over the city, especially the parks. The blue tarp would be out to put our lunches on and we'd have to FOB, flat on back or butt, after we ate to settle our stomachs after lunch.

    I think that my favorite summer memory would be running around at my grandmother's house with all of my cousins. We would dig in the dirt and just have a great time. I miss those days. I hope you have a great week, Greg!

    The movies that suck post sounds fun! You should do one of the best netflix/hulu shows out! I need recommendations! I remember when Summer felt nice and long. Now, it's over in the blink of an eye. My favorite summer memory as a kid and teen was going to my grandparents house every weekend. My aunts, uncles, cousins, and family friends would get together and spend all day and night in the jacuzzi and swimming pool. They would blast the music, bbq, and the adults would hang out and talk, while the kids played volleyball, sharks and minnows, Marco Polo, and a ton of other games.

    I can't wait for fall but this has been a great summer. And you are right, it is flying by so fast, I'm trying to hold on with both hands!

    I have so many summer memories, but I really remember swimming with my cousins, and then eating around the table, dripping wet towels wrapped around us, getting our Doritos and sandwiches damp, but laughing and having fun. Even while shivering in the sunshine. Lol.

    What a neat summer memory. For me it is probably the first time I went to Cape Cod. My family never took me on vacation before that year. They left me with a friend when they took my older sisters. I still remember the doll they bought me.

    Great books. I've seen Wilder Girls a lot of places.
