This week is the Top Ten First Books I Ever Reviewed. This is kinda fun! I get to go back and look at some of my earliest, most horrible reviews! But at the same time I'm kind of anxious to take this trip back in time, so let's can the chit chat and take a peek!
Lot of middle grade reads here. Funny how our tastes change. I cringe when I read some of my early reviews! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I read surprisingly a lot of middle grades and now I hardly read any!
DeleteAaaaw the Secret Zoo looks so good though. Its interesting to look back at what we first started posting about right?
ReplyDeleteOkay how fun is that though! I don't even remember what the first books were that I reviewed on my blog I would so have to look, if it even goes back that far still, I don't think it does. I think I had to delete stuff dang it!
ReplyDeleteIt was very educational to go back and look at my earliest reviews haha!
DeleteI feel like Tides looks really familiar as if I've seen that one on Amazon or Goodreads... or something! Or maybe it's just the author's name that rings familiar. 'Zoo' looks fun and cute!! Love that cover. :)
ReplyDeleteShe has written a few books since then? And I really liked Tides!
DeleteOh wow, I read 13 Treasures a long time ago and I think I enjoyed it- don't quite remember though! I know I never got around to reading the other books.
ReplyDeleteThe other books were even better- I really like that series!!!!!
DeleteOh, Glow! It didn't really blow me away or anything, but it'll always be special to me because it was the first book I ever won from a Goodreads giveaway, lol!
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Same! I never did read the third book...
DeleteWow! I'm not familiar with many of these books, but they do look fun! My TTT
ReplyDeleteThese were quite fun, I don't think I really disliked any?
DeleteI love this topic, it's fun to see what books everyone reviewed in the beginning of their blogging days! (I don't particularly like the re-reading aspect of my own, but I enjoy others, haha). This reminds me of how long I've been wanting to read The Secret Zoo! :) This is such a fun list.
ReplyDeleteRight? It is interesting to see where everyone started! Although yes I don't always enjoy going back and reading my own reviews. :)
DeleteI have had the 13 Treasures books on my TBR forever it seems. I love some good middle-grade and these look cute. I love your first picks - what a different variety.
ReplyDeletewww.tbrandbeyond.com
Thanks! I hope you get a chance to read them!!!
DeleteI'm surprised that I don't really recognize any of these. But I really love the cover for Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh.
ReplyDeleteSuch a good one!
DeleteNice! These are new to me ones. I think it's funny how we're all embarrassed by our first reviews. I don't even know if I could consider my reviews, actual reviews either. Lol.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
That's a diverse bunch of books -- and I hear you -- the early reviews are not good for me too!
ReplyDeleteGreat list! There are so many lovely covers here. I love The Secrets of NIMH, I should give the book a try.
ReplyDeleteI loved that show!
DeleteWow, you read a lot of kids' books back in the day. That's cool.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT.
I really did! It's kind of amazing to me to look back...
DeleteInteresting list of books! I think these are all new to me!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing everyone's early books they reviewed! Love the cover of Glow!
ReplyDeleteI'm fond of that too...
DeleteI've read The Secret Zoo but never continued on. Such colorful books Greg and I love that frog. This has been a fun topic this week.
ReplyDeleteIsn't this a fun topic? I enjoyed looking back over old reviews and seeing what I was reading back in the day! I love that you were all about MG since that's a genre I enjoy as well. MRS. FRISBY, especially, is a book (and movie) I remember so vividly from my childhood. Thanks for the trip down memory lane :)
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
Thanks Susan. I really liked Mrs Frisby. And I miss all the MG!
DeleteI would have never guess you read so many books for younger readers. I love it. Middle grade books are some of my favorites. You should try the Ramie Nightengale books by Kate DiCamillo. So Good! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the rec!! :)
DeleteI love that you have so many MG books as your initial reviews.

Nice list! I enjoy reading children's books as well! I love the cover for The Secret Zoo. Here is my Top Ten Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of those.
ReplyDeleteYour list just looks so fun! Like everything you read was an adventure.
ReplyDeleteI like many of the book covers in your post!! I can't say as I've read any of the book found in your TTT post this week though.
ReplyDeleteHere's a link to my TTT post for this week: https://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2019/04/top-ten-tuesday-first-ten-books-i.html
I only remember about the first one on the blog but other than that? I would have to investigate lol
ReplyDeleteOoh these were totally different from your current reviews Greg!
ReplyDeleteIt's so funny how we all are cringing at our first reviews. I wasn't brave enough to even read mine. Those 13 books look really interesting.
ReplyDeleteI know most people hate their early reviews but I kind of like them. I felt so much less pressure back then and wasn't influenced by anyone's style and they feel like a purer form of reviewing than what I do now. And also, I'm kind of lazy when I review now lol
ReplyDeleteKaren @ For What It's Worth
Fun list! And I absolutely love Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh! :)
ReplyDeleteI loved The Secret of NIMH! You seem to still have similar taste, except for less middle grade now.
ReplyDeleteGreat list, Greg! This was a fun post for me to put together, too. I liked the walk down memory lane. I see you have quite a few middle grade books listed here... Do you read many of these nowadays? I don't feel like I see many MG reviews on your blog.
ReplyDeleteI have not read nay of these but perhaps I will put some on my tbr. Here is my post https://paigesofbook.blogspot.com/2019/04/top-ten-tuesday-first-ten-books-i.html
ReplyDeleteI thought this week's topic was like "meh", but then I really enjoyed looking back. Not so much at my reviews as a blogger, since they are fairly new, but the older ones on GR. I am going to take a look at these 13 series, that captivated you so much in the beginning. I like the covers, and you know me.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen these books before. I really like the covers of the 13's :)
ReplyDeleteElle Inked @ Keep on Reading
MRS. FRISBY AND THE RATS OF NIMH I love that book. I read it to my girls and we cried. Hope you did it justice!
ReplyDeleteLots of Middle Grade. I love it! 👍✨
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun look back! I didn't read the original Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, but growing up I did have a kind of graphic novel version of the movie adaptation- The Secret of NIMH. In fact, I still have that book because it has too much sentimental value to part with it. :)
ReplyDeleteYep, it was fun. My tastes have somewhat changed, at least I can say I've grown as a reviewer. :)
ReplyDeleteI only read Glow, although I did read Tuesdays at the Castle. I hope you enjoyed going back in time!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that I can figure out when you started blogging because you said you read and reviewed Glow! I remember when that book was a hot blogging topic ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's so fun seeing our original reviews. I haven't read any of these yet, but I see a few on my TBR>
ReplyDeleteAsh @ JennRenee Read
I remember seeing Glow making the rounds quite a few years ago! I love how that cover still looks good today. Awesome list! :)
ReplyDeleteWow, lots of great middle grade reads. Do you still read it on occassion or have your reading tastes changed much since then? My first review was a Beth Revis book back in January 2013. This TTT has been brilliant, I've loved seeing everyone's old reviews.
ReplyDeleteIt has been fun to see everyone's early reviews, especially when they link to them. I checked out a few of yours, and realize that I've been reading your blog since pretty early on -- I commented on your Wednesdays in the Tower review, back in the day! I've also enjoyed revisiting some of the books that are still on my (massive) TBR list. Tides is one; I meant to read it the year it came out, but never got around to it. Perhaps someday!
ReplyDeleteI love that you started out reading MG!! It's fun to look back and reminisce!
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
I haven't read any of these - and I wasn't brave enough to read any of my earlier reviews.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
I love the variety of books here. It has been fun to watch everyone take this trip down memory lane to look at old reviews. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the variety of books! I think a lot of us feel the same about our first few reviews. I still think I'm terrible at reviews but not as terrible as before.
ReplyDeleteTina @ As Told By Tina
A random, random question: I've picked Cherryh's Morgaine Cycle from your blog years ago and put it onto my tbr list. I think you had it listed as one of your favourite books? My question: Have you read the "Foreigner" series? If yes: any good? I'm intrigued.
ReplyDeleteoh wow, I haven't heard of any of these!
ReplyDeleteI reall ylike the idea of looking back on the books I first reviews, I'm sad I missed this weeks theme, maybe I'll look back anyway and see what those books were.
ReplyDeleteOKAY, I'm feeling a MASSIVE throwback to Glow. I don't remember anything about it. AT. ALL. But, I did have an ARC of it. I still have it somewhere around here. Such a throwback. Also, a lot of these are unfamiliar to me but ??? curious. I definitely feel like looking back on our earliest reviews as bloggers is a mixed bag and may or may not cause intense flashbacks of embarrassment and joy.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fun topic! I actually haven't heard about any of these books before :o
ReplyDeleteI have seen this post around. I can't even think what my first ones were. I will have to check that out. Great post!
