It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Book Date
Well it warmed up this week (that being relative) but at least is's not zero! I'll take it. And I had a better reading week, so yay for me. After a little bit of a late December slump I seem to be full speed ahead so that's good. Hope everyone is having a great first part of 2018.
I finished the River At Night this week- great story! - and am debating what to read next. Maybe Vault of Dreams which I acquired thanks to Shannon at It Starts At Midnight or The Woman in the Window, which is getting ALL the buzz. I'm still binging Longmire too on Netflix- I'm into S3 now.
Last week I reviewed The Complete Morgaine, an old school SF book that partially inspired my Gates stories, and also Intrigue in Capri, a short novella in the Amory Ames series. This week I'll be taking a look at The Young Queens (the new Kendare Blake novella) and The Birthday Girl. And... I'm happy to report that On the Run 17 will be up Monday! If you need to catch up you can find previous installments here.

I'm so curious about The Woman in the Window. I hope it's a good one!

I am too! In fact I started it and so far, so good. :)
DeleteI want to go live in the Saturated Future! That one is SO pretty, and just different. I am going to skip the Antarctic Base because no. (Seriously though, that would be so fun to do, just once in life.) Also, it was 65 here today, and will be 3 tomorrow and I don't understand (or like) this winter.
ReplyDeleteOh fun, Vault of Dreamers! I think the second book was my fave. But it's a fun series all around. And don't forget that Neal is on his way :D YAY for more On the Run!
I do too! The Antarctic base- too cold. And 65?? We hit 57 a few days ago, then the next day it was 25.
DeleteYes Vault of dreamers. I didn't forget, and I can't wait to get into those...
Love the choice of artwork this week too. Interesting concept for Saturated Future, and amazing how much atmosphere some cool colors can add to a setting in Antarctic Base!
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Thanx!! I agree about Saturated, and I just loved the colors for Antarctic Base!
DeleteThe weather really warmed up here this week, but after the rain yesterday, we're back down to cooler temps which I love, of course. I used to listen to Pat Benatar all the time, and really enjoy her music. Glad you've been able to catch up on some of your reading. Mine has been on a back burner too, but I'm full speed ahead with the latest from the great James Rollins called, The Demon Crown. I really like that Murder on the Orient Express pic. Happy Weekend! Hugs...RO
ReplyDeleteSame here, although we only got one day really of warmer temps. Then it plunged again! And I was lucky enough to see PAt Benatar a while back.
DeleteI like that artwork too and happy weekends!!!
When you say it's warmed up I'm guessing you don't mean like it warmed up for me. It hit 70 here several times this week. As you say, warm is relative. LOL Hope you enjoy The Young Queens. I hear nothing but raves for that series. Love the Pat Benatar clip! That's definitely my era. Takes me back to junior high/high school. :) Hope you have a great weekend, Greg!
ReplyDeleteOoh I would love some 70's right about now! It's freezing here. Send some this way if you can. :)
DeleteThe Young Queens was great- just a novella so it was a quick read, but it added some things. And that happens to be my favorite PAt Benatar song, so I couldn't resist!
The Woman in the Window reminds me of a Alfred Hitchcock movie. It has gotten cold here again in Iowa. Even had a snow day on Thursday. Enjoy your books.
ReplyDeleteIt has a VERY Hitchcock feel. I just read it last night and today lol and it was quite good. :)
DeleteYay for snow days! We still have some too...
We're having a bit of a warm-up yesterday and today, too - it's a nice change from the freezing temps, but unfortunately it's not going to last!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you liked The River at Night!
Ooh I could use a warm up. It's cold here still. :(
DeleteThe River at Night was quite good!
It warmed up here too. So nice not to be completely freezing all the time. Yay to getting past your slump. I need to check The River at Night out. Hope you hav a great week!
ReplyDeleteSo true. We hit 57 on Wednesday but then the temp plunged again. Argh. The river at Night was quite good!
DeleteReally looking forward to your reviews on The Woman in the Window and Birthday Girl! Those books look so good, and I'm dying to read them.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week and yay to getting out of your slump :)
Amy @ A Magical World Of Words
Both books were really good. I just finished The Woman in the Window this morning.
DeleteThanks, have a great weekend!
It's cold here but at least we aren't getting those terrible snow storms so I'm ok with that.
ReplyDeleteYeah we have a little snow but luckily it's not storming. Hope it holds off over your way!
DeleteHmm never seen Longmire
ReplyDeleteLongmire's pretty good, it took me a few eps to get into.
DeleteIt's TOO warm here where I live. We don't have Winter/snow in our country, so it's only chilly during December. Once we shift to January, the chill almost dies down completely, and by February, it feels like Summer again. D: So glad you're getting out of your reading slump!
ReplyDelete- Aimee @ Aimee, Always
Thanks Aimee! Sounds like your temps are pretty nice year round, or does it get too hot in the summer time?
DeleteIt's pretty warm here where I live. I mean, we don't have winter/snow here, so during December it's pretty cool and chilly, but it's almost completely gone by January. By February, it'll feel like summer again. D: Anyway, so glad you're getting over your reading slump!
ReplyDelete- Aimee @ Aimee, Always
Whoohoo! Yay for getting your reading mojo back! That's always exciting. :) Have a good week, and happy reading! :)
ReplyDeleteYes it is nice, I was having trouble finding anything I wanted to read but my last few have been great!
DeleteI am glad your temps have warmed up, Greg, and I am glad to hear you are back to reading again. I seem to be in a little reading spree, but I imagine it will slow down any day now. Especially as work gets busier. I hope you enjoy The Woman in the Window. I really enjoyed it--although it wasn't quite what I was expecting. Not entirely, anyway. I hope you have a great weekend, Greg!
ReplyDeleteI am from Minnesota (but live in Nebraska now) so pretty much ice runs through my veins, but I do agree that it is nice to be above 0. The wind chill will get there eventually. Glad that it is warming up a bit for you too, it is hard to turn pages when fingers are cold!
ReplyDeleteI need to catch up on the Blake series for sure. Another goal for 2018! Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteI love the Murder on the Orient Express poster. Very retro!
ReplyDeleteIt got warmer here this week, too, but today was around 34 and tonight will drop to around 15 or 16. Brrrr. Another cold drive to work -- it was 7 last week when we left the house.
Love that Murder on the Orient Express art. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteYay for Longmire! I do have to admit some of it was a bit cheesy but the series was fun. Love the Murder on the Orient Express photo. Glad to hear it's a little warmer weather for you, too, Greg! :)
ReplyDeleteI am loving Longmire. Katee Sackhoff is awesome, and Standing Bear is great too. :)
DeleteI love that pic too, it just has atmosphere!
I seem to recall the name Cherryh, but I don't remember where I read about that :) lovely artwork as ever! Have a great week, Greg :)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week too. :)
DeleteNot zero is def a good thing! Glad your reading is getting back on track too :-) And I've had Vault of Dreamers on my TBR for a while! Looking forward to hearing what you think.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a good thing! We hit like 57 last week and I was ready for the beach. Well you know one can dream. :) And Vault of dreamers is coming up soon on my TBR...maybe next, or after that, they keep moving around!
DeleteYay for the weather warming up (even if it just means it's less cold). Sometimes I think having the weather just do one thing can get to you, especially when it's cold because pretty much all I want to do is curl up under a blanket then. You read loads this week! I have to say, I had a bit of a slump at the start of this year (it's still ongoing) but I figure I'm watching loads of TV so I'm cool with that. I'm impressed you're so far into Longmire, hope you're enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good week (and the good reading continues for you).
Yes any warm up is good! And I agree, the cold just makes me want to hibernate lol. I hear you on the slump- I had one too at the tail end of December, even in early January I just wasn't sure any books appealed to me. Luckily I seem to be over it- hope you are soon too!
DeleteAnd yeah I'm surprised how far along I am w/ Longmire- guess that show grew on me. :)
I nearly bought The Woman in the Window yesterday, but hesitated and didn't. Now I regret it, as all the hype makes me want it. So now I'l have to go back next week for it!
ReplyDeleteLove that Murder on the Orient express picture.
I almost picked a different book and then at the last minute I went with Woman in the Window, and I'm glad I did, but I totally get it. I've done that before too. I hope you like it when you get it- I thought it was quite good!
DeleteThe weather here was terrible we had fog for a day and a half and it was just so dull. Glad you here you are having a great reading month so far. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteYou too! It got foggy here too with the warm up and then the cool down.
DeleteI'm glad the weather has warmed up somewhat - we had a brutal easterly blowing at the start of the week which I'm very glad had now gone. But I'm really sick of this weather now and could do with some warmth! Ah - the Morgaine series - I'll have to pop over and see what you made of it as I LOVE C.J. Cherryh. Have a great week, Greg.
ReplyDeleteI agree, and the cutting wind is the worst. I can handle the tmps if the winds not making it feel twenty degrees colder lol. And I loved the Morgaine series, although that's all I've read of her at this point.
DeleteYou have a great week too! :)
I love that you always include art and so much fun stuff in these!!
ReplyDeleteI am so interested in Woman in the Window omg! I can't wait to hear how it was.
Vani | Off-Color Lit
Thanks Vani! The Woman in the Window was excellent.
DeleteOh my god Agatha Christie! I really hope you read her books if you have the chance, they're truly master pieces.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Anne @ The Reading life
I need to read some Christie ASAP. I've been meaning to, I hope to actually do so this year!
DeleteYay for a good reading week. And being above zero! lol we made it into the 70s! after being at 2 degrees but are back down to the teens again. So mean! Hope you find some good reads this week!
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy, I can't believe how the temps have fluctuated! 70's though- man I would some 70's right now. :)
DeleteGlad the reading slump is over. We have had weird weather this week. We had a couple of days in the 50s and then the temperate dropped drastically and we got hit with snow and ice. It was only in the teens yesterday. I can't wait till spring!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that there was an Amory Ames novella. I really enjoy those mysteries.
Hope you have a great week!
Me too! And the weather has been terrible. SAme here- we got 50's briefly and then snowmageddon descended again.
DeleteThe Amory Ames novella was pretty short but it was cute- not bad.
Many books there and always some wonderful illustrations! have a lovely week!
ReplyDeleteYou too!!
DeleteGlad the slump has passed, it feels good. The weather was annoying around here. It was 60 on Friday and today is 16...I give up! :)
ReplyDeleteThe gif picture is cool, creepy name but cool!
I hope you have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading! :)
Yeah the slump was annoying- I mean I had been doing good with reading and then bam nothing appealed. Luckily I seem to be over it...
DeleteI thought the same thing, cool pic :)
Intrigue in Capri got my attention. Seeing Pat Benetar brings me back to memories of my high school years! I actually liked The last Jedi...
ReplyDeleteIntrigue in Capri was a fun little read. And PAt Benatar... yeah. :) I'm glad you liked The LAst Jedi! I didn't so much but I know a lot of people did, and it's nice just to have Star Wars again.
DeleteI'm glad you had a good reading week. I like the cover for The Young Queens. I'm wondering what it is about. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe Young Queens is a prequel novella for Three Dark Crowns, and that series is so fun!
DeleteYah for the "warmer" temps. Enjoy the new books you got this week. I am looking forward to starting The Woman in the Window. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI hope you like it!!
DeleteThe River At Night has been on my list for a while now. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteThe River at Night was really good. I hope you like it if you get a chance to read it.
DeleteI'm very curious about The River at Night, and I love "Cemetary." I feel like there is a really good story behind that piece of art😁
ReplyDeleteI think there's a good story there also!!
DeleteYou always find the most interesting art!! I love it! I hope you have a great week.
ReplyDeleteHa ha thanks!
DeleteThe Woman In The Window is getting a lot of buzz and its now high on my list. I recently binged all of Longmire and I loved it all over again. I liked how it was wrapped up and hope you do too. Great pictures this week and loving that Agatha Christie cover.
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post
The Woman in the Window was good, and there's a twist I didn't see coming. And Longmire is great- I keep wondering will Walt and Vic or won't they??? :)
DeleteI loved Longmire, and when the final season came, I binge-watched it in one day. Sadly, I will miss those characters, especially Walt. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI am also loving The Woman in the Window...hope you enjoy it, too. Stay warm(er). And thanks for visiting my blog.
It warmed up here too but now cold again and windy. The Woman in the Window is all over the place, I need to read it too. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty warm where we are too. Glad you had a great reading week!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Sunday Post!
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog and join in this week’s Book Photo Sundays!
I'm glad your reading slump is going away! I've heard a lot of good things about The Woman in the Window. It's one I think I'll have to check out.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
The Woman in the Window was quite good.
DeleteGlad it warmed up a bit, anything is better than 0! I am glad you enjoyed River at Night, I wasn't a fan. I do want to read Woman in the Window and I am patiently waiting in line on the online library for my turn...lol.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading and have a great week!

Week in Review
I've had Vault of Dreamers in my classroom for awhile now, and the cover just made it look boring to me. I guess I should rethink that.
ReplyDeleteI like the Orient Express art best.
It went from 65 to 28 here, but it still feels warm compared to last week. So, what did you think of The Young Queens? Did you think there was something to them talking about a blue queen? I have my suspicions.
ReplyDeleteAck that's crazy, although we had much the same. I liked The Young Queens, just as readable as the books. And absolutely yes- I don't thik that blue queen reference was a mistake. :)
DeleteWe warmed up for a few days but it rained and then it dropped back down to freezing every night. We've had cold snaps here before but never this extended period of old or so early in FL.
ReplyDelete<a href="http://www.fwiwreviews.net/</a>
We warmed up for one day, everything pretty much melted, and then it dropped again and we got more snow! Weird how cold it's been in FL though.
DeleteIsn't the weather just so apocalyptic? :) Glad you find yourself a full reading speed now. I love to hear about where writers find their inspirations like The Complete Morgaine! I'll be catching up with On the Run really soon!
ReplyDeleteYes it's like snowmageddon. Or cold ocalypse? Anyway I just updated my writing archive, so it'll be easy to find On The Run now (the later ones).
DeleteI'm on the wait list for The Woman in the Window! I hope you enjoyed it :) Can't wait to read your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteI liked The Woman in the Window a lot. And it had a twist I DIDN"T see coming.
DeleteIt was warm today, but it’s going to snow tomorrow. I guess that’s an excuse to stay inside and read. Enjoy your new books, and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Sounds like a good excuse to me. :)
DeleteI had to stop my youtube video and listen to Pat Benatar. :D
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to your review of Vault of Dreamers! I've been on the fence of keeping that one of my goodreads to-read list or not.
I love the high notes she can hit in that song!
DeleteI'm kinda anxious for Vault of dreamers, I hope it's good!! :)
I'm from the same Brooklyn neighborhood that Pat Benatar is originally from- small world, LOL. I picked up Three Dark Crowns when it was a Kindle deal recently and am really looking forward to reading it. Hope you have a great week and that it's not too cold where you are!
ReplyDeleteIt did warm up this week in my area only to get cold again in time for the weekend. I am hearing great things about The Woman in the Window. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGood to have books you enjoy, sometimes after a great one it is hard to find a good one to follow, but sounds like you have some promise there.
ReplyDeleteA little warmer and more reading makes it a good week! It still relatively cold down here in FL, too... what a crazy winter. Hope it's another good week for you.
ReplyDeleteYes, funny how 34F can feel downright balmy! Love colors of the cover for Intrigue in Capri. I'd have a hard time picking a favorite image this week. All are great.
ReplyDeleteI am in Melbourne where temperatures are erratic. Nothing like zero of course but strange for this tropical girl!
ReplyDeleteThe Woman In the Window has me intrigued . . . I am so nosy about books like those! It's currently 7 degrees here, ugh!
ReplyDeleteI missed your images :) I hope the start to your 2018 was great!
ReplyDeleteGlad it's a little warmer for you. We have more grey skies here in the Bay Area. May have rain later this week. You had a good reading week; I had tried listening to Kendare Blake's first book in that series but found it would be better if I read it as there are details I need to pay attention to. I better put it on my 2018 list; thanks for reminding me.
ReplyDeleteWarmed up here too. Then it started to snow. I liked the Morgaine books when I read them years ago. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThe Young Queens had me intrigued when I first read the synopsis a couple months ago- can't wait to see what your thoughts are!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that you have a 'Pulp Cover of the Week' :) When I was a kid I always wanted to buy books with garish covers, even if the reading level or subject material was (more than) a little outside my age group.
The Young Queens was really good- short but provided some nice new information in that series. And thanks! I love finding pulp covers, they're fun to share. :)
DeleteI have a friend who has been to Antartica. He's a photographer. Thanks for stopping by earlier.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you liked The River at Night. Looking forward to The Woman In The Window. Enjoy the snow early this week before the next warm up! LOL
ReplyDeleteYou got The Woman in the Window! It looks amazing so I can't wait to see what you think of it. I have the Ashely Weaver series on my TBR. It looks great. Hope you stay warm. For some reason it's snowing here! Not happy! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThat Saturated Future art really speaks to me. I really love retro sci-fi art and literature. It reminds me of my childhood.
ReplyDeleteThe River at Night looks intriguing. I'll have to check it out. I also really need to get on The Woman in the Window. I started the arc way too early and ended up putting it aside--and now it's out. Eek! Happy reading! Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteIt warmed up a little here this week too, although they're now calling for more snow tonight so I guess the reprieve was short-lived, lol. My sister just finished The Woman in the Window and she says it's fantastic. I'm hoping to get my hands on a copy soon. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe Vault of Dreamers is excellent! I hope you enjoy it, Greg! :)
ReplyDeleteOh this cold weather is terrible. Something to look at, through the window and not venture out into. lol. Hope you are having a great week and staying warm!
ReplyDeleteI am cold in Florida so I know you must be colder. Makes me want to stay curled in a blanket - reading of course.
ReplyDeleteYou've shared some great images as usual. Your new titles sound/look interesting. Stay safe, warm and Happy Reading!
That's great you had a good reading week and the weather warmed up a little bit. The Antarctic Base picture looks pretty neat. Have a great week!
ReplyDelete
