Sunday Post #134

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer

This has been a nice week weather wise with lots of sun early in the week but it got windy towards the end. It also got cool again so no 70's this week. I read a book and part of another and started Allegiant. With the movie coming out this weekend I figured it was time to read the third book and see what the deal is. St. Patrick's Day was also this week and I hope it was a great day for anyone who celebrated it.

This week I discussed urban fantasy and got a lot of great recommendations. I'll be posting discussions on Tuesdays going forward as I take a break from Top Ten Tuesday- feel free to stop by and join in. I'll still do a Top Ten here and there, just depends on the topic.  I also reviewed The Passenger.

This is amazing and one of the best items I saw all week. A Stormtrooper in Love.

    1. Wasn't that fun? The winter has been the same here- pretty mild actually. Although I still complained. :) Sorry you got snow! I think we're over it, but you never know. The sun is out today- so fingers crossed. :)

I liked your review of The Passenger, a book I enjoyed. I also heard that Season 2 of Bloodline is coming soon...Yay!

Thanks for visiting my blog, and enjoy your week.

  4. I can't believe I never got Allegiant on time to read it before the movie :( [of course the waiting line is humongous!] but I'm glad you are reading it! :) can't wait for your review :)
I used to have a DeviantArt obsession. Spent countless hours there. So much talent! Thanks for sharing that gorgeous piece :) Now off to read your urban fantasy discussion post :)

there's so much neat stuff at DA, I love finding pieces that are imaginative.

  5. Oh, thanks for including a link to my review of Missing, Presumed!

I must check to see if 12 Monkeys is out on DVD here. (I also must stop relying on my local Blockbuster video library as I'm sure it's gonna close any day now. Not sure my internet speed is fast enough for Netflix though!)

Off to read your review of THe Passenger to see what you thought!

  6. I wanted to watch 12 Monkeys when it first started, but then decided to wait until the whole first season was out. Looks like it's that time! Oh man, Orphan Black is starting soon! Looks good! Have a great week, Greg.

  7. Our weather has been even more ridiculous than usual this past week, too! It snowed on Wednesday, and on Friday we could be outside in a T-shirt. I guess that's kind of a true sign of spring, tough.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading, Greg.

  9. Blegh, I hate wind. That would not be a nice weather week for me lol. But at least you had some sun!

You always find the best artwork! Very cool pictures.

I didn't celebrate St. Patty's Day, but, oddly enough, the book I started reading the day after just so happened to also start the story the day after St. Patty's Day lol. Enjoy Allegiant and have a great week :-)

    1. Yeah the wind was ridiculous, like 50 mph gusts.

Thanks, half the time I find the art by accident while looking for something else!

That's fun, what are the odds of that? :P I was actually hoping to find something Irish or Celtic themed to read around St. Patty's but it didn't work out. Some Celtic themed UF would have been fun. Oh well...

  12. So you read the Divergent books, huh? I can't decide if I want to read the books or watch the movies... How close are they? Is book or movie better or just different? I've stayed away from the movies but they look so good!

That Persian inspired Deviant piece is amazing!!!!

I hope it gets warmer again next week - We were teased :)

    1. Okay here's my thing about Divergent- I read the first two and liked them. But I put off book three. I saw the movies and liked them too- a lot of people say Insurgent sucked because they deviated so much, but I liked the movie version of Insurgent. So I'm actually with the movies a bit. I would say watch the movies and just take 'em as they are. And if you don't like 'em don't throw anything at me. Ha ha.

I love that piece too, no idea what it's supposed to be but very imaginative. And yes I want warm!!!

  13. Weather was nice here and then it rained and I about froze as it was like 40 and I had gotten use to 60's and 70's...lol. I haven't read the Divergent books though the first movie make me kind of curious...lol.

  15. Great post as usual, Greg! I just went back and commented on the UF discussion... I follow you on BL, so I don't know how I missed that post.

I love your pics from DeviantArt. That one looks mysterious and would be a good prompt for flash fiction, lol.

I need to start the cozy series of Julie Mulhern. I have the first, The Deep End, and I want to read it but I just read a cozy, A Muddied Murder, and wasn't feeling more "cozy love" this week.

Looking forward to your discussions this week.

  17. I was really enjoying the warmer weather so it was disappointing to have to get my sweaters and winter coat back out for the end of the week. I think it is supposed to get warmer later this week. I hope so anyway!

I still haven't read Allegiant and don't think I will. I loved Divergent and liked Insurgent but the ending of Allegiant was spoiled for me and I didn't feel like reading it at the time. One of my coworkers was just talking about that Lisa Lutz book yesterday. I'll have to check out your review.

    1. Well it's finally spring (officially). Let's hope the weather takes heed and cooperates! As for Allegiant, I wasn't super hyped to read the third one and let it go- I'm only reading it now because of the movie and wanting to read it first.

The Lisa Lutz book was interesting, not a bad read but I saw several glowing reviews which is what made me pick it up, and I didn't love it. Glad I read it but didn't think it was awesome.

  23. We also had some nice weather over here. Makes me greedy for even better weather to be honest. I can’t wait for those warm summer days.

I’m really curious to find out your thoughts about ‘Allegiant’. The movie looks great.. but I thought it was the lesser book of the three.

    Happy reading ;)

  24. I was so surprised by the end of Allegient but haven't seen any of the movies. I heard they weren't that close to the books and it put me off. Hope you enjoy.

  25. We got some strong winds earlier in the week. We're fortunate there is almost always a nice breeze even on the hottest of days where we live. I am not sure if it comes with living at the top of a hill or just luck of where we live as compared to the rest of the city. What did you think of Allegient. I haven't seen the movie yet. Not sure if I want to in the theater, but we'll see. It's hard to find the time to go since no one else in my family is interested. I hope you have a great week, Greg!

  26. We lost our springlike weather. It got down to 12° last night, but we were supposed to get an ice storm and it looks like we dodged a bullet, so I am not going to complain. Thanks for the link to the Lord of LOtR FAQ because at some point in the future I want to do a complete read including ones I own that I have not read beyond The Hobbit and The Ring books. I love doorknobs! In fact at one point in my life I collected them. I got tired of dragging them around when I moved, so I sold them to buy a guitar. XD I haven't done a Top Five Friday in a while because the TTT prompots have been a little boring lately. I will make sure I drop in on your discussion posts. Have a wonderful week. :)

I enjoyed your review on The Passenger. It's gotten so much coverage and lots of love from the crowd, but I like your take on it. It's in my eReader, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but now I will be forwarned about some of the repetitiveness.

Thanks for sharing the trailer for Orphan Black!!!! I can't wait!!!!

  29. I have read the first two books, but still haven't read Allegiant yet I hope you'll enjoy it. We had some nice days, but also some cloudy and colder ones.

  30. Ooh, what do you think of Allegiant so far?! I REALLY loved the book! I know it's controversial, but I still believe it ended perfectly. :') I'm a little dubious about the movies though. :P And tbh, I haven't seen that much promos for them, unlike when the first one came out?! I guess the dystopian phase really is getting quiet.
    Happy reading and watching! :D

    1. I'm not too far into Allegiant (this little thing called Netflix ruins my reading time lol) but so far it's okay. I like Tris and Four a lot and I'm glad to see their story continuing- and we're finally outside the wall (they just left) I've been WAITING for them to finally venture out and really anxious to see what's out there.

the movies I think are pretty good, I know they deviate from the books (especially Insurgent) but I still like them. And yes dystopian seems to be slowing down a bit... which is a shame maybe because I still like it. :)
