This week has been good, for the most part. I got some reading done and I have a few reviews planned for the Vintage Science Fiction challenge. It's a bit windy as I write this, but otherwise not much is going on.We still have a fair bit of snow but the temperatures have been warming, so it's melting a bit. It looks be a quiet weekend so hopefully I can get ahead on some of my reviews.

Still no snow and it was 60 today...I don't think I've seen Catching Fire yet. Mockingjay should be on DVD soonish so maybe I'll just wait and watch them together.
ReplyDeleteI think they would go well together, especially since Catching Fire ended on a bit of a cliffhanger. It made me really want to go right in to Mockingjay and see what happens next. Wow you guys have warm temps- we were too but not quite that nice. :) Have a great weekend.
DeleteOh man, I haven't watched any of the classic Hawaii Five-o in for ever. My Grandfather and I use to watch them together...brings back memories. I am hoping we stay warm and avoid anymore snow. Hope your week is filled with awesome moments!
ReplyDeleteI've been watching them all week! LOL. Some are better than others- it has aged, but I'm still enjoying them. A blast from the past!
DeleteWe were still below freezing here today. Tomorrow (actually later today, lol) it is supposed to be near 40°, but it is going quickly back to teens and twenties on Monday. I have to catch up with the last two Hunger Games movies, myself. Have a terrific week.
ReplyDeleteWe were 40-ish I think... felt a bit warm. :)
DeleteI only got around to watching Catching Fire over Christmas and I loved it. I can't wait to see Mocking Jay now!
ReplyDeleteWe had snow here this week too. It lasted about 1 hour LOL
I felt the same way. I'm ready for the next movie! Glad the snow didn't last... that's quick!
DeleteOh gosh I haven't watched Hawaii Five-O in a long time. That's a blast from the past that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week Greg and happy reading.
It is a blast from the past... and it's a silly at times, I have to say, but still fun to revisit. Have a great week!
DeleteI am so jealous of the snow :( We haven't gotten any yet and it's freezing here. Today is a warmer day but it's suppose to rain. Yuck!
ReplyDeleteThe covers of the Vintage SyFy are Fantastic. They make me think of the library when i was younger, I don't know why lol
I have yet to really watch the Hunger Games, I wasn't a fan of the books and I watched bits and pieces of the first one and just wasn't feeling it like the books.
Have a great week Greg!
I like the snow, but this time of year after the holidays I tire of it a bit and am ready for warm. I like the cover too- must be a nostalgia
DeleteI never read the books, did see the movie and thought it was okay, then saw this one and liked it- there's a few thing I don't get, like why would they do this or that, but by and large I'm enjoying them. I'm more curious than anything else, I guess, to see where it goes.
Hope you enjoy Mockingjay...when you see it! I'd love some snow here...we just seem to be getting sleet lately:(
ReplyDeleteWe had rain yesterday, and I gues more snow is on the way... not too much, but some. I'd like to see Mockingjay if I can while it's still on... we'll see if I make in time. :)
DeleteA Beautiful Blue Death is still on my TBR list--hope you enjoy it. Enjoy the warmer temps and longer weekend.
ReplyDeleteMy Sun/Mon post: http://www.bookclublibrarian.com/2015/01/weekly-book-recap-94.html
I saw that one on some blogs and I guess it filtered down through osmosis until I thought of it... so I picked up the eversion and will give it a try. It looks up my alley. :)
DeleteI thought I'd read all of Andre Norton;s books, but I don't remember these. Of course, it was more years ago than I care to count so maybe I've forgotten them! I'll look forward to your reviews. And I have several books by Charles Finch to read. I need to start them. I hope you have a great reading week, Greg!
ReplyDeleteI read a lot of her too, but not nearly all. She had so many! I think it will be fun to re- explore them, and write reviews. That's one about the Vintage- I get to go back and reexamine all these. :)
DeleteThank you Jan and you have a great week too. I'm looking forward to anew mystery.
I love binge-watching stuff on Netflix...Sunday is usually my day to do that...and I think I'm ready to go!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new books...A Beautiful Blue Death looks tempting. Thanks for visiting my blog.
I am enjoying that too- I', new to Netflix so I have lots of choices. :) Thank you for visiting
DeleteI was into vintage sci fi when it was contemporary! Seriously how sad is that. I also remember vintage HI-5-O that way. I met the guy who was the second guy at a telethon once - cannot remember his name, just meeting him.
ReplyDeleteI was too! Makes me feel old. :) Hawaii Five-O was always the show for me, not sure why, maybe the music, or that I wasn't supposed to watch it LOL. It is fun to revisit, although it has, um, aged a bit,,,
DeleteMr. Penumbra has been on my TBR for ages and I've had the Charles Finch for far too long. Netflix is a dangerous service! I end up watching way to much TV! We are having some warmer days here much to my relief. I don't love cold weather. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteNetflix is dangerous- I've been spending way too much time there. :)
DeleteI still need to watch Mocking Jay. My husband wants to come with me but he still needs to watch Catching Fire. Hopefully we'll get around to see it before it is taken out of the theaters. I hope you enjoy it, it looks really good! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI am also hoping to catch it before it goes off- but I'm running out of time. I was anxious to see Catching Fire too beforehand, and I'm glad I did, since I know the characters better now.
DeleteOooo, look at all that old-time Norton. Have fun! The Finch book looks good too.
ReplyDeleteI've been binge-watching mystery shows on NetFlix, such fun. But it's easy to get sucked in and lose time.
I know, love those old time cover! I think it will be fun to revisit some of those.
DeleteNetflix is dangerous, I have several hours into that this week! :)
A Beautiful Blue Death looks awesome. I'm going to check it out.
ReplyDeleteI'm binge watching American Horror Story right this minute. I think I've got it figure out now. So strange:)
My Sunday Post - http://fuonlyknew.com/2015/01/18/whats-new-on-my-bookshelf-93-and-the-sunday-post/
It's been a long time since I saw any of the original Hawaii Five-O episodes, but I'm enjoying the new ones.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
I've heard the new show is good.
DeleteHawaii Five-O! Been a while since I saw that! Snow? Gosh, we've had such pretty weather - actually outside with a camp fire right now - I couldn't do the northern cold! I hope you enjoy Catching Fire, I thought it was really good! Have a great week Greg!
ReplyDeleteA campfire? Are you serious? Man am I jealous. It's freezing here!
DeleteUgh, just lost my long comment here, so I guess I'll just say have a good week and enjoy your reading!
ReplyDeleteDon't you hate that? Thank you for stopping by, and you have a geat week too!
DeleteBinge watching some old TV sounds alright. I wondered to myself whether I would be nostalgic and watch some old The Virginian shows but decided no, might spoil what I remember with fond remembrance.
ReplyDeleteI like TV but not watching a lot of it. I prefer to take my Kindle to bed!
ReplyDeleteI don't read a lot of vintage science fiction, but now I wish I did. Those books look really good. I'm thinking about binge watching the Doctor Who series, because I haven't seen those before. Enjoy Hawaii Five-O, and reading this week!
ReplyDeleteMy IMWAYR post.
The book events for January look pretty cool! I wish there was a Shuler's closer to me. Temps over here are warming a bit too, but we had a light dusting of snow last night that made everything pretty again. Lol.
ReplyDeleteIt's in the 50's today, and supposedly will get up into the 60's! I'm excited! It felt so nice outside and it's nice that the sun is finally back out. We didn't get any snow this winter, but there is still a chance that the weather will completely wonk out and we'll get snow in February. It's happened before...
ReplyDeleteJust keep your snow up there, Greg! :) Looks like a great batch of reading for you this week! A Beautiful Blue Death looks interesting!
ReplyDeleteLove the cover of A Beautiful Blue Death, its made me curious! I'm currently binge watching Justified and Veronica Mars on Amazon :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday!
Shelleyrae @ Book'd Out
It's still cold from where I'm from but I like it that way. I haven't seen MockingJay. I've heard it's awesome. Enjoy your week ♥
ReplyDeleteWeeklyWrap@EverythingNyze
What did you think of Catching Fire? I thought it was excellent, and so much better than THG. I was so happy that they got rid of the first director.
ReplyDeleteMockingjay was pretty good, but I think the film was hurt a bit by having it split into two parts. I love the story so much that I will not complain about having too much of it, but I can see why people who aren't big fans would be disappointed. I do think Part 2 will be amazing.
I liked Catching fire a lot, a big improvement over the first one. And I wanted to see Mockingjay immediately after finishing it, so I guess that cliffhanger worked! In fact, I may try to see it this week as it is still at the theater, but only one show time left.
DeleteI still haven't seen Mockingjay. I'll probably wait till it is out on DVD. The only movie in the "trilogy" that I saw in theaters was The Hunger Games.
ReplyDeleteI like watching older TV shows on Netflix. My favorites that I've been watching recently are Friends, Gilmore Girls, and Keeping Up Appearances. I still haven't watched all the episodes of Friends so every once in awhile I come across something "new" to me which is fun.
I look forward to your thoughts on Mr. Penumbra. I've heard really good things about it.
