Sunday Post #72 Post Thanksgiving Edition

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey

We got a little snow yesterday but the sun is out this morning and it's a beautiful day so far. I hope that everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving had a great day.  Now the Christmas frenzy begins...

SciFi Month is winding down this weekend, and what a month it's been. Reviews, giveaways, all kinds of fun and it will be missed. I discovered another cool event though- Vintage Science Fiction Month Not-A-Challenge, happening in January. This looks like all kinds of fun, so I will be participating in this (and have already started thinking of which vintage books I want to read). You can check it out here.

BLOGOSPHERE:

Oh! The Books had a great discussion for SciFi Month. Is This Real Life? Is This Virtual Reality?

Sara at The Hiding Spot talks about their updated Book of the month program at Brilliant Books.

  1. Gah, I've seen the Jurassic World trailer and... well, it seems like they've created a Godzilla of sorts, doesn't it? And that Chris Pratt's the only human with enough common sense to see it's a bad idea. It sounds rather predictable.
    Have a nice week! :)

    1. I'm not sure what to think of it. On the one hand I like the franchise, but on the other... not sure about the story. you think they would learn... :) visually it looks good.

      You have a great week!

  2. Lots of new movie trailers recently and both of those have had a lot of buzz.

I had a relaxing holiday and now I'm busy with client work. \

Your vintage sci fi books are new to me but oh that style of cover brings back memories! :D

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

    1. Glad you had a good holiday! Hope you don't have to work too hard this weekend.

I love the old style illustrations and cover art, but a lot of those older stories... are kinda hard to read. :)

  3. We've seen the preview for the new Star Wars several times over the last few days. My husband and my 4 year old are beyond excited about it. You got some interesting looking new arrivals. I've really been enjoying your classic SciFi reviews and that cover of The Counterfeit Heiress is gorgeous! Glad you have a nice Thanksgiving and have a great week!

    1. I think it's great they're doing another Star wars movie, although I'm a little leery about it... I hop e they do a good job with it! Thank you about the reviews, and I hope to have a lot more especially with that new vintage sci fi event. :) I think that will be a lot of fun.

The Counterfeit caught my eye as I've been reading my way through Tasha Alexander's Emily books, and this is the latest... I'm hopeful it's good!

  4. I am excited about Star Wars of course. Also... that Jurassic Park trailer looks pretty amazing too. That whole creating a dinosaur thing.. well we will see if works or not. I had so much fun this Thanksgiving. Sometimes it's my favorite holiday!

  5. I was never a big fan of Jurassic Park movies. My dad is SF fan and used to watch everything with him when I was kid. Not even Alien scared me as JP did. :D
Good luck with new reading challenge, Greg!

    1. I liked the first one (Jurassic Park). I'm a little skeptical of the new one, but just the fact that they're making it... I don't know, it might be good. But I can see where it would be scary, definitely. Thank you for stopping by!

  7. I've been waiting so long for the new Jurassic movie. I'm not sure what they created but parts of the video reminded me of a Jaws mvoie with the aquarium. All those innocent people are about to be chum!
Star Wars, about time! I'm hoping it's as good as it's hyped up to be.

      Have a great week!

  8. The Lin Carter book covers are interesting in that they change fro fantasy to surreal to Tarzanish. I haven't seen any of the trailers. Hope you enjoy the holiday preps, sounds like you like it! http://fangswandsandfairydust.com/2014/11/sunday-love.html

    1. Lin Carter is funny, I loved those books as a kid and I expect as an adult they're going to suffer somewhat... but we'll see LOL. I like the vintage challenge. And we still have to all our stuff out yet, hopefully soon!

  10. Here we don't celebrate thanksgiving, so it was just a normal week for me, although I enjoyed seeing the pictures and reading the stories of those who do celebrate thanksgiving. Sci-fi month was a lot of fun and I hope to be able to participate again next year if they are hosting again.

    1. Thanksgiving has slowly become one of my favorite holidays- probably because of the eating. Such a feast... :) I enjoyed SciFi Month too and am sorry to see it go.

  11. Murder at Mullings looks good...and I can always enjoy some Charlie Brown.

We actually had lovely weather here...I guess that can happen after a long, hot summer. Only three hours upstate, where my son was coming from, it was raining very hard.

Enjoy your week...and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

Vintage Sci-Fi books eh? That's a challenge I'll be on the look-out for in January.
    Have a fantastic week.

  13. My husband is always on the hunt for the old Daw books. He usually finds them at Half Price Books and usually they are super cheap!

I only saw the first JP for the first time this past year when they re-released it in theatres. It was a lot of fun to see it.

    1. I used to really like the DAW books and had quite a few, but over the years I don't have as many. I think it will be fun to re- explore them. Jurassic Park is fun and especially in the theater- are you looking forward t othe new one? I hope it's good but I'm a tad bit skeptical... we'll see what they come up with.

  14. I hadn't seen the Star Wars trailer yet. It's not terribly informative, is it? ;-) I'm reserving judgement for now, but hoping for the best.

As for your Vintage SF not-a-challenge - what fun! I'm tempted, but I have other plans for January, and I've already signed up for the COYER challenge.

I'm getting The Countereit Heiress, too - I'm doing a joint tour for Rhys Bowen and Tasha Alexander's new books in January. :-) It looks good, as does Rhys's book!

    Have a great week!

    1. No the Star Wars trailer doesn't show us much, and I'm a bit skeptical to be honest. I have a bad feeling about this- sorry that's terrible. :) Seriously though I hope it's good but will reserve judgment also. The vintage SF challenge I think will be fun, and since I'm sad to see SciFi month go that will give me something to look to.

The tour sound great- I got away from Tasha Alexander's books for a while, so it's nice to revisit.

  15. Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving. We did too. Our temps are warming up a bit and then they will go back down by the end of the week.

Murder at Mullings sounds really good. I want to read that one.

    Have a great week!

    1. I am cautiously optimistic about Star Wars, I'm a fan of the originals so we'll see how these are. I suspect they may be disappointing, but who knows- maybe not? The Lady Emily books are good, I enjoyed the first three then got away, and I'm revisiting them now.

  18. It's good you only got a little snow. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

The Counterfeit Heiress sounds really good! I want to add more mysteries for my reading so I'll check this out. It is book 9, do you recommend starting with the first book?

I love both those trailers especially the Star Wars. It is so nice to see Lucas stopped with CGI storm troopers. I hated those in the other movies.

I hope you enjoy your books and stay warm! Have a great week!

    1. I'll start with the first book. I agree you get to know the character that way. I have read some standalones which were good but I still felt like something was missing since I didn't start with the first book. Thanks Greg!

  19. Star War was intriguing... not sure about Jurassic World... it seems like kind of the same plot but even "cooler". I hope both turn out great though. I'm a big fan of the original Star Wars trilogy. :)

  22. Those two mystery books you got looks great! :) As for the new Star Wars, I am not sure as I am not a huge SW fan but the trailer doesn't really give me much to go on..lol. I think the Jurassic Park one looks cool but it's so been there done that..but could still be fun..I knew they were in trouble when they said Hybrid..why oh why do they mess with things like that..lol.

Have a great week and thanks for stopping by my blog!

    1. I know, you'd think the Jurassic Park people would learn- really build another park? :) I'm a little skeptical of that one too... and Star Wars I'm not sure about, could be good but you're right, the trailer doesn't really show us very much.

I hope both mysteries are good, I've been reading a lot of those lately...
