Sunday Post #57

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

This week was kinda crazy. I've read a few books in the last few weeks but the reviews are slow to go up. I did finish The Wild Dark Flowers and the review will be up later this week. I have some more Bookstore Spotlight posts coming along down the pike too The Michigan Renaissance Festival starts this weekend, and while we're not there for opening weekend, we will be soon. Looking forward to getting back!

This weekend is also Gen Con, and I'm sorry to be missing it. Gen Con is the biggest convention in gaming and is always a blast. I'll be back next year for sure- but yeah I'm having a little con withdrawal, not being there.

I'm a little behind on COYER, but will have some reviews up this week they are piling up a bit.

  1. I wish I lived by Gen Con!!! Oh man. This year I skipped my local Renaissance Fair. We usually go every year but honestly last year we went and it was boring. Same venders... same walking around.. same jousting. I don't know. Maybe going every year makes it boring. So we skipped this year. Should go back next year.

  2. i love Ren Faires and Irish Fests and the like. Maybe if you go to the same one in same location it can be boring. They should address this problem and mix it up a bit. I've been to Faires in 3 states, they all are mostly similar, but enough to keep us happy.

A Jules Verne book, nice! My husband really likes that one. Have a good week.

  5. I would love to go to Gen Con! My son and I would have a blast. Will have to look into making it a trip maybe next summer.

I am very behind on reviews too you I totally understand and I usually write them as soon as I finish a book but I have been a little summer lazy and have just been reading and not reviewing...I plan to catch up in the next two weeks.

  6. Oh Oh! I haven't seen the Winter Soldier yet but that clip made me sooo desperate to see it, lol! Can't wait until it's out on DVD. Pinterest is pretty crazy about Bucky, that's for sure. ;)

    1. I can't wait to see it again - it was really good. I saw it twice in the theater and that clip made me want to watch it again! I liked Bucky a lot in that movie. I'll bet he's very popular on Pinterest! :)

  7. I loved the bookstore spotlight. There is nothing like a bookstore, and I am happy to have even a Barnes & Noble nearby. I enjoy going there to read, drink coffee, and occasionally find something on the bargain table. Enjoy your week! Sorry about Gen Con.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

  8. You've had a busy week! Sorry to read that you'll be missing one of your favorite conventions--it's lousy when that happens.

I picked up a copy of The Vanishing Thief, the first book in the Victorian Bookshop mystery series after seeing The Counterfeit Lady in your blog post last week, Looking forward to starting it.

Enjoyed your video clips and bookstore spotlight--have a great week.

    1. Yeah I'm sorry to miss the con, but it wasn't in the cards this year- there's always next year. I hope you like the Vanishing Thief, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I've been waiting for the sequel and will be starting it soon.

Thanks Catherine for checking out the bookstore post, and have a great week yourself as well.

  9. It looks like you're busy, but it's nice you're getting quite a bit of reading done. Whenever you get a chance to get to the Renaissance Fair have fun. It's been quite awhile since my husband and I have been to one of the fairs. Hope you have a great week.

  10. GenCon looks like so much fun! I can't wait until Jake is older and he wants to go to a gaming Con! I'm not sure if he'll be into RPGs like his daddy but we'll find some Con to blow his brain!!!

I loved your Schuler's post!!! Yeah for indies!!! Have a great week!!

  13. I would probably love GenCon, though I'm not a gamer because it's way too dangerous for me. I have whole weeks missing from my life due to games. So I try really hard to stay away lol.

I have never made it to a Renaissance Fair, but intend to go this year (ours is in the spring usually). I'm such a nerd and love all things history, so I have no idea why I haven't gone before. Have a great week Greg!!

  14. The indie book song was great! The book store looks amazing. I love that it looks like a mix between new and used. Makes me wish we had a decent indie around here. I'm looking forward to your review for The Wild Dark Flowers. The Counterfeit Lady looks like it has potential as well. Thanks for reminding me of Jules Verne. I'm working on my classics list and he is an author that I have completely missed somehow. Have a great week!

    1. Wasn't it though? I was really impressed with the job they did on that. It is a neat sotre, very big and it's nice theyhave used books too. The Counterfeit Lady I'm looking forward to as the first one was quite good. I've never read Jules verne either but I hope to rectify that soon, as I've always wanted to read 20,000 Leagues.

  15. I finally got caught up on my reviews this week. It takes me a while to gather all my thoughts and do the write up. I really like your bookstore spotlights. We don't have a lot of independent bookstores here so it's nice to see that you have quite a few close by. Have fun at the Renaissance fair!

  16. My kids would love to go to a game con! I need to see what's coming (if anything) around my area. Have fun at the Ren Fest!

  18. The Counterfeit Lady looks like one I need to read! As for the RenFaire, it's been a long time since I was at something like that and I miss it. Maybe my husband and I can make the one in southern Maryland this year. Have a great week, Greg!

    1. The Vanishing Thief is the first one if you're interested. I enjoyed it a lot and have been looking forward to The Counterfeit Lady for a while now. I hope it's as good as the first one was. The Maryland Ren fair is a pretty big one if I'm not mistaken- I like the bigger ones as there's so much to see and do there.

    2. Thanks, Greg! I've got both on my TBR list now. Of course, when I'll get to them is anyone's guess. I probably should prune my TBR lists; they're way too long.

    1. It's actually an omnibus of sorts, with that story and some of his other stories included- a big volume. I liked the cover and the fact that it had multiple stories in it, so scooped it up. Bargain priced to at B&N.

  23. There is a Renaissance Festival an hour or so away from us. We don't go every year (it's often the same), but try to make it every 2 or 3 years. Always a good time! I'm enjoying your bookstore spotlights, too. Makes me wish we had more of a variety in this area.

    1. It is a lot of fun, and whenever I miss it I get a little bit of con withdrawal! I think it's all the energy at an event like that, when it's time to leave it's always a little sad...
