Sunday Post #54
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.
Well we've been back from vacation and I'm ready to go again! I'm missing the up north breezes and spending evenings at the beach looking out over the water. Life is back to normal here and it was a pretty good week. I managed to get some pictures uploaded and did a Saturday Snapshot for the first time in a while. I'm having a lot of fun writing up my Bookstore Spotlight feature and will have another one this week. Keep those comments coming and let me know if you have a favorite bookstore too!
I had a review last week for COYER and a couple more coming this week, so I'm pretty happy with that. I blew through a couple books this week- where did I find time to do that? They were pretty good - I'm on a roll with my books lately, hope that keeps up. What are you up to?
AROUND THE BLOGOSPHERE:
The High Summer Readathon is in full swing, and while I didn't participate this year I enjoyed it last year and it's been fun to read the posts.
From The Editor's Desk: Penguin editor Wendy McCurdy discusses The Wild dark Flowers by Elizabeth Cooke (my current read) and what a great proposal it was. And the big news for me: a third Rutherford book is in the works. I'm in.
Pamela Druckerman (author or Bringing Up Bebe) talks about the French way of buying books. I always enjoy reading her perspectives as an American living in Paris. Great piece.

So glad vacation was fun, and sweet you got some reading and reviews in! Hope the week ahead is a good one for you Greg!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kimba, same to you. Somehow I'm getting ahead- not sure how, but I'll go with it! :)
DeleteGlad to hear that your vacation was fun and yay for getting through a couple of books. It's nice to get on a roll.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week.
Sharon
Here's my Sunday Post
It has been nice, best reading week I've had in a while. Thanks Sharon!
DeleteYour vacation sounds great! I'm going to northern Wisconsin for the first weekend in August for a family gathering. Our relatives live on a lake so it's always wonderful to see them and spend some time in a lovely place!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your books have been great lately. I've had a pretty good run of reading, too. Have a great week, Greg!
I LOVE that picture! The pretty butterfly on the plant! Great shot!!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't even been on vacation yet and I am ready to go again :) I really believe we should all have at least 3 or 4 vacations a year...now I need to win the Lottery Lol
I am so jealous of everyone at Comic Con. I am determined to go one year. Was going to go in NY but it's sold out already :( Oh well maybe soon I can go :)
Have a great week, Greg!!! Enjoy your new reads!
Thank you Michelle. I tried several times to get it and he finally cooperated. :) I agree about vacations, BTW- I could use a few more this year!
DeleteI know about comic con, i want to be there! I'm kinda jealous too, they get to see all the fun stuff. I've been to cons but never the big ones- hope to one of these years. That would be a blast!
I love Tintin books. Some of my fondest memories (from my distant youth) come from grabbing Tintin books and nestling down in a bean bag at the library. The Spielberg movie was okay but didn't really capture the joy of the books.
ReplyDeleteI do too- I read a few as a kid but didn't realize there were so many. I'm enjoying them now as an adult. And I agree about movie- it wasn't bad but nothing like the books.
DeleteGlad your trip was good - the best ones are those we wish we could go back to The cover on the book you are currently reading is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI think so too, I've been looking forward to it for a while. It was a good trip, and I agree- ready to go back! :) Have a great week!
DeleteSo glad you had a good vacation! I love going back and rereading books from childhood. There have been several I enjoyed more now than as a kid. I hope you are enjoying Wild Dark Flowers. I've got to give Rutherford Park a try! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you Katherine! I do too, the rereads from childhood are fun- and yes, some have held up well. Rutherford Park is good, and I just learned recently there is a third one in the works- so I'm happy about that.
DeleteOoh, great vacation pics....and I am so envious, since I haven't been to the cooler spots in ages. Soon, though. Enjoy your new books, and thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteLove Leelanau. Spent many summers there with my cousins. Look forward to your book spotlight, I put The Originals on my TBR list.
ReplyDeleteI do too, love the dunes and the whole area. The spotlight should be up on Tuesday.
DeleteYay for vacations, boo to having to come home. Ok, not really. I actually enjoy coming home to my things, my territory, my bed, my throne. lol
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great trip - I'm going to go check out your pics in a minute. I'm having vacation envy because that sounds just wonderful - beaches and breezes, *sigh* But it is good to have you back :) Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteThank you, good to be back and posting again! :) Hope you like the pics...
DeleteSiren looks good. Enjoy your books and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt is good, I'm reading that one too at the moment. Kinda freaky...
DeleteSo glad you had fun on your vacation, and hope you get to do it again soon. I can't wait for another feature of your indie bookstores--what fun!
ReplyDeleteThank you Rita, the next post should be up on Tuesday. Glad you're liking them. Hope you're having nice weekend
DeleteThe Wild Dark Flowers has a lovely cover. I hope the story is as good.
ReplyDeleteThat's good you enjoyed your vacation, it sounds relaxing.
I do too, I'm just starting it . If it's as good as the first one, i'll be happy!
DeleteGlad to hear you had a great vacation! I always like getting home after a vacation, it's nice to be home, but then a week later wish I could go back.
ReplyDeleteI've been doing pretty well with Coyer as well, I did manage to read more books from my list already then I expected I would.
I'm doing OK with COYER, started kinda slow but read a few books last week so that help. So I'm more or less on track... :)
DeleteFavorite bookstore? You have a post up for that, will have to dig through your posts now :D
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday
Yeah it's anew feature I'm doing, I have a slew of indie bookstores I'm going to spotlight over the next few weeks. months. It's fun so far!
DeleteLove the cover of your current read. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI like it too, can't say enough good things about the first book and hoping this one is just as good. I think it will be!
DeleteGlad you had a good vacation and that you're getting some books read, too! Looking forward to your review of Through the Door, as I own it and haven't gotten around to reading it yet. Also the TinTin review - I need to read those! I read one as a child, and absolutely loved the movie, so I'd love to read the whole series.
ReplyDeleteI always miss the beach when vacation is over, haha.
ReplyDeleteOh Illusive! I hope you enjoy it, I'm about half way through, and so far so good! Hope you have an awesome week!
I love the cover of Illusive, and the premise. Looking forward to it (and will watch for your review also!).
DeleteSounds like you had a pretty awesome week, holiday, reading and reviews ... way to go! I'm still playing catch up ... umm well let's just say I'm holding steady lol. Enjoy your reads :)
ReplyDeleteThat's usually how I am... holding steady or falling behind! It was nice to get through a few books last week... need more weeks like that. Hope yours is good! :)
DeleteAs I am interested in all things French, I must take a look at how the French buy books. Thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week.
Here's my It's Monday!
Sounds like you had a great week. What is COYER? I don't know that acronym. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteCOYER is Clean Out Your E-Reader, although this time you can read ebooks, print books, whatever. It's hosted by the fabulous Michelle and Berls at Because Reading Is Better than Real Life and Fantasy Is More Fun- or just go here http://www.becausereading.com/coyers-summer-vacation-sign/
DeleteYour bookstore spotlights are going to make me want to plan a trip! I'm glad you had such great time on vacation.
ReplyDeleteThank you JoAnn, I've been lucky enough to come across some really cool bookstores in our recent travels. Traveling and books- what's not to like? :)
DeleteGlad you had a wonderful trip! I hope your reading selections for this week are great
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
Shelleyrae @ Book'd Out
You too, thanks and have a nice week!
DeleteGlad your vacation was so lovely! Up north Michigan is pretty awesome. :)
ReplyDeleteSiren sounds really good!
Thanks, looks like you guys had a good one too! Siren is good so far, almost finished and it's kind of intense at times.
DeleteYay for vacations... boo for them being over. I am ashamed to say that even though I have an indie bookstore a few ninutes from my house, I prefer B&N, which is much farther away. I prefer the size, movement space, and large book selection in B&N (the prices aren't the main thing for me). Our indie shop is rather small and I always feel like I am about to knock something over every time I move. They do have a great selection of book related items though, and I purchase many of my Christmas and birthday gifts there, so for me it functions more as a gift shop than a bookstore. I feel okay about making my book purchases at B&N because I am still spending money to keep the indie afloat, just not on books.
ReplyDeleteI like my B&N too, and live there (well not really, but you know what I mean!). Indie's do often have less selection but sometimes have their own litttle ambiance- i love both. I totally know what you mean though- some indies just don't have a lot, whether because of space or budget or whatever...
DeleteLove vacations, never seem to be long enough though! Your new arrivals look really cool. I hope you enjoy your week and reads! Thanks for stopping by my blog.
ReplyDeleteThank you and hope your week is going well.
DeleteI was recently in San Diego and miss the water myself too. Now I am back to my mountain state, Colorado. Is the Originals the book based off that show?? I have been interested in that book.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the show, I don't think so. The book is its own thing, I think- and it's pretty good! I hope you had a good time at the con!
