Sunday Post #48
The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.
This was a good week, got lots of reading done. I posted a couple reviews, and more on the way this week. I also hit the lakeshore for the first time, and had pizza at a favorite place on the water. It was a nice day, although it was nicer at home- it got cloudier near the lake.
I mentioned a couple Sundays ago that my blogoversary was coming up- well, it's here. I started the blog in 2012 more or less, but really started posting regularly last June. I thought it would be fun to go back through some of my older reviews and see how they hold up. Some I kinda like, and others I just wince. So this week I'm going to re-post some of those older reviews- many of which have never been read I'm sure! :) Feel free to share your thoughts on them if you get a chance. I may also do a giveaway- haven't done one in a while. I'll have to look at the shelves and see what I've got...

Congrats on the blogoversary - they sneak up on you so quickly. Thinking of old posts, one of the reviews that stuck in my mind was actually written by your daughter. Her review was succinct and well thought out ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy blogoversary ! Yes, that Old Venus cover looks like those sci-fi books my father was reading back in the 70-80's ;) Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteThe Old Venus cover makes me think of Ray Bradbury for some reason, strange. Anyway, Happy Blogoversary, I look forward to seeing your old posts ;-)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Thank Natalie, I'm looking forward to picking which ones to post. Should be fun... and yeah that cover does evoke a lot of old sci fi feels.
DeleteCongrats on your Blogoversary, I read through my old post from when I started and I can't believe how much I have grown since I started blogging.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to reading your old post!!! I hope you have a great week, Greg!!!
Happy reading
Same here, I actually thought some of the old posts wer okay, and some I was like.. who wrote that? Oh me, yikes! :) I think it will be fun to post some again and see what people think, although I'll have to hold back the temptation to rewrite them LOL!
DeleteCongratulations, Greg! You're doing a great job as a book blogger. You bring other interesting links in your Sunday Posts than just reading which I really like. I'm glad you were able to do more reading this week. And the cover of Old Venus is awesome. I'll be interested to see who the authors are though usually I don't read many short stories.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jan! I really like doing the Sunday Post for that reason- I try to find interesting links although some weeks are better than others. :) It was nice to actually get some reading in this week, and write some reviews too. I'm not usually a fan of short stories either, but this one I may have to try just because of the subject.
DeleteCongratulations and Happy Blogoversary!! It sure is painful reading through our oldest reviews, isn't it? ;-)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you've had a good week. I've enjoyed Peter Mayle and look forward to your thoughts on The Corsican Caper... reading about the Mediterranean is as close as I'll get this year, too.
Happy Blogoversary! You're braver than I am! I don't think I want to look at my older reviews. lol And yay for more reading! *high fives* And why did you have to mention fudge? I haven't had any in yonks. Now, I want some. lol Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteYeah I definetly picked some reviews and others I was like... they can just stay in the past. :) Sorry about the fudge... made me kinda hungry too!
DeleteSounds like you had a perfect week, Greg. The Corsican Caper caught my eye, and I'll look for your thoughts about it.
ReplyDeleteHappy blogoversary...and many more!
My Sunday/Monday post: http://www.bookclublibrarian.com/2014/06/weekly-book-recap-70-bea-2014-edition.html
Congrats on the blogoversary! I know what you mean about cringing when reading old posts. But good idea about reposting some reviews. I did that with my review of Labor Day when the movie came out.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your books! The Corsican Caper looks like fun.
Here's MY WEEKLY SUNDAY/MONDAY UPDATES POST
I think so too, a little different read for me but looks fun. Totally an impulse buy too... :)
DeleteThe day at the lake sounds lovely and congrats on your blogoversary. Yeah, some of my earlier reviews made me cringe too..LOL Have an awesome week Greg!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kimba. Some of those early reviews were a little rough, no doubt about it! :)
DeleteHappy Blogoversary! And looking back at your old posts is a great idea. A lot has changed (with your views and writing style) so it should interesting! And I love the cover of Old Venus - it does have that old school look to it. Have a great week!!
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how much a blog can change in a year... I still have the same old design (or lack of) but me reviews, in some way, are very different from when I started. It has been very interesting to go back and read the old ones...
DeleteHappy blogoversary, Greg! Revisiting old posts sounds like a good way to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to get my hands on Rogues, but in my case, it's the Patrick Rothfuss story I really want to read. I've asked my library to get it, but I'm number 10 on 5 copies, and they obviously haven't gotten it in yet, so I'll have to wait a while.
Thank you! I thought it would be kinda interesting. I'm looking forward to Rogues too, I don't read a lot of anthologies but I will that one. I haven't read Rothfuss yet so maybe this will be a great way to start with his stuff. I wonder if his story is set in the serie he's currently writing...
DeleteHappy blogaversary!
ReplyDeleteI try not to read my old reviews, too disheartening. D: I'll pop back and check yours though, I'm sure they'll be worthwhile.
Thanks Bea! I don't know how good they'll be, but I appreciate you stopping by! There are some I'll leave alone thank you very much- LOL.
DeleteGreg, I take it you might be a George R.R. Martin fan. Have you checked out the Wild Card series? It's like 20 or 21 books long and my husband raves about it. It's somewhat hard to find, but that's part of the fun for him, I think.
ReplyDeleteHappy blogoversary! Have a wonderful week.
I am a fan, although mainly of Ice and Fire- believe it or not I haven't read any of his other stuff! I've heard it's good though, but I'm mainly into the fantasy stuff. Wild cards looks fun I have to say...
DeleteI hope Xmen was good - I'll watch for your review of that. I'll be waiting for it to come to Netflix, HBO, Starz or something like that, I don't do movie theaters very often anymore (so much money!). And happy blogoversary!! It must be neat to relook at old reviews, I think I may have to do that next month on my blogoversary :)
ReplyDeleteIt was OK- there were things I liked and thigs I didn't. I was afraid my review came across as a bit of a rant, so we'll see what people think. :) Hopefully it doesn't come off as to negative. It's more about what they could have done rather than what they didn't do...
DeleteI've actually had fun looking at the old reviews, seeing which ones work and which don't. I was surprised that some of them I still kinda liked...
Shattered looks really interesting, I'm going to have to check it out! I hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post
Whitney@Shooting Stars Reviews
It is good so far, thank you and have a great week also!
DeleteI just saw xmen this week too. I wasn't going to do a review about it now that it's been out for a while. Maybe I still will??? Who knows... I blog on a whim. I was going to read the last anthology by George RR Martin but it is soooo massive. So it intimidated me and I returned it to the library. Maybe I should pick it back up??
ReplyDeleteI think the anthologies are hit or miss, actually. Sometimes there's a good story or two in there, but a lot of times they're not my thing. I'll check this one out though probably. Did you like X-Men? I'm afraid my review will be a bit of a rant- I liked it but I have complaints too. :)
DeleteHappy Blogoversary ... I've been blogging 6 years and I sure notice the difference in my posts ... gave me a laugh. Lakeshore and pizza sounds like a very enjoyable day. Have a fab week and happy reading :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Blogoversary! :) I'm looking forward to your X-Men review!
ReplyDeleteHave a good week :)
Thank you, my review of X-Men should be up later today. It has its moments and is worth seeing if you like X-Men, but I thought it could have been a lot better...
DeleteI agree about reading The Corsican Caper as an armchair travel experience. I have my eye on this book!
ReplyDeleteHarvee
Book Dilettante
It caught my eye in the bookstore- another impulse buy. I need to stop! I've never read Mayle though and it looked fun.
DeleteHappy Blogoversary Greg. I'm looking forward to seeing the new Xmen movie too.
ReplyDeleteRead on!
Shelleyrae @ Book'd Out
Hope you like it! It was good to finally see it...thank you and have a great week!
DeleteI like that cover to Old Venus, too. J.J. Abrams is denying the Millennium Falcon which is pretty funny. :) I hope you have a wonderful week, Greg.
ReplyDeleteI think he's going to have a heck of a time with leaks. But I hope we can have some surprises and trh whole @#$% plot doesn't leak before the movie comes out. :)
DeleteCongratulations on your blogoversary. May you have many more! Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy, I'll be right over! You have a great week...
DeleteHow's Shattered going? I need to make some space in my calendar to read it soon. Also I need to see that X-Men movie soon. Great post, Greg :)
ReplyDeleteShattered is good so far, I just find this whole series so readable. It picks right up where the last one left off, and Kyla is still trying to get all her memories back. I think it's going to be good... :)
DeleteHappy Blogoversary! It's always fun to look back at old posts. I think I was rather impressed with the insight of some of my older reviews! I must be getting lax with time...:)
ReplyDeleteIt's funny, I liked some of my older reviews too- not all, but several I was like hmm maybe they are better than what I'm writing now! :)
DeleteHappy Blogoversary! Enjoy the new books and your week.
ReplyDeleteYou too Jenea, thank you for stopping by!
DeleteHappy blogoversary! I'll have to check back later this week for your review of the new X-Men movie, I enjoyed it, but I'm not a big comic book person, so I always like to see reviews by those who are.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lisa. My review should be up tonight, and while I may rant a little in it it is worth seeing if you're a fan. I think it's awesome we have so many superhero movies to enjoy, I'm just glad they're making these movies!
DeleteGlad you got some reading done! I'm curious to see your Shattered review. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI should hopefully have it by next week, if the reading cooperates with me! We'll see how the week goes, so far I am liking it.
DeleteHappy Blogoversary, I love your idea of going back to old reviews, see how they hold up. When I read a few of my old reviews, I'm usually pleasantly surprised. At the time of writing them, I usually think 'oh, my writing does not hold up' but when I read it a few months later I think, hey, not too bad :)
ReplyDeleteI always love your videos of Mackinac, it truly looks like one of the most peaceful places on earth.
Thanks for stopping by, I'm a bit late this week :)
Thank you fot stopping, Peggy. It has been fun to look at old reviews, and you're right- they are not all bad. :) There are a few I'd like to redo, but on balance I'm happy wit hthem.
DeleteHappy Blogoversary! :)
ReplyDeleteBTW, I did DNF Freak of Nature... :p If it's not free on amazon anymore, I can loan it to you. :)
Some of my reviews I would love to revamp. I'm just too lazy to do it. Plus, I guess it shows my progress as a reviewer in a way. I mean, those I just to want hide in a hole and never come out. :D
My guys went to see X-men without me. :( But in there defence I went away to a book convention for the weekend too. So balances out, I guess. ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy Blog-o-versary!!! :D It's great to have you here in the eathernet with us!
