Sunday Post #37/ It's Monday. What Are You Reading

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

This week has been an interesting week. Reading time has been at a premium these last few weeks with my new job, but I'm fitting it in when I can. March is flying by and the warm breezes of April are not far off- the snow is melting and I can see a lot of projects that nee doing after a hard winter, but I'm feeling the optimism and hope of spring and thinking ahead to warm, starry summer nights.

On the reading front I have a mix of newer and older stuff to read, I'm going to alternate a bit so I'm tackling some of my new books but also reading some old school stuff in the coming weeks. One thing I've noticed lately is I'm loving it when I finish a book- even if I really liked the book, there's always another one waiting I can't wait to start. It used to be that I'd finish a book and be a little wistful, especially if I didn't have anything waiting in the wings- but as a book blogger, there's no shortage of books waiting and I wanna get through 'em. The only downside is I sometimes don't remember everything about a book I just read a few months ago, or it gets jumbled with other books. I guess that's where my reviews will help me keep it all straight! Anyone else have that problem?

  1. Not sure what I think yet about Star Wars being 30 years later. I guess they really couldn't go forward in time.. so going back in time was the only way to go. I look forward to seeing what you think about Ten. I see a lot of people reading it and the book looks interesting to me. I too didn't get a lot of reading done this week. Luckily I had blog posts set up so I didn't have to worry about having nothing on the blog. But now that Spring Break is done I have a lot of reading to catch up on!

    1. Yeah the Star Wars movie... I want it to be good, and hope it will, but I'm nervous about it. :) Could go either way. Ten looks fun to me and I hope to read it soon. I know what you mean about blog posts- seems like I've been posting so little lately, reading just one book a week like I have been kinda slows things down. :)

Good luck with reading this week, hope you get lots of time for it!

    2. My general philosophy on the new Star Wars movie is: "Well, it can't be worse than Episodes I, II, and III." Don't get me wrong, I like them. I watch them. The quality is just .... lacking. So, there's nowhere to go but up, right? Right?

  2. Duran Duran ! I had forgotten about them ! I watched the Goonies so many years ago I don't really remember the movie, but I'm looking forward Game of thrones. I'll read the book after the series is finished, when I do it the other way around, I generaly don't like what's been done with the stories. Have a great week ;)

  3. Oh, I have the problem of remembering... except I tend to do my reviews a few days after finishing them, XD o_o

Have a great week! I've seen Legacy of the Clockwork Key around for awhile... hmm

    1. I have to do reviews right after too (within a few days, anyway). Even then I might look back a few months later and realize I don't remember a book as well as some others-especially if the premsie is similar to other books I've read.

I'm curious about Legacy of the Clockwork Key... hoping it's a good one. :)

  4. I always have a feeling of 'accomplishment' when I finish a book and part of it is that I'm now free to read the next one, and yes, even if I enjoyed the finished one a lot. I try to make notes as I read (or highlight on Kindle) and also try to write the review shortly after finishing - within a couple of weeks. But I'm also reviewing books which I read ages ago (sometimes years ago), so I sort of re-read the blurp and the description on Wiki etc and its flooding back to me, sometimes it feels a little bit like re-reading the book which is great. And that's exactly where our blogs come in so handy, because they are a wonderful tool to remember all the books we read (even if no-one ever will read your review :)
Have a great week and Happy Reading. Thanks of stopping by.

    1. So true LOL... I like going back and reading my older reviews, and I chuckle when I realize no one else has probably read them. :) But they are a great way to remember a book. And I totally agree, that sense of accomplishment you talk about is exactly what I was thinking- I might love the book but I'm already ready for the next one. :) I've started taking notes too- it helps a lot, although sometimes the review flows and I don't even use the notes. Sometimes... :)

  5. Oh man. I loved Goonies growing up. But, seeing this...yea, they are right. But the best is the fun the movie was. lol.

    Have a great week!

  6. My memory SUCKS! I have to right the review sometimes as soon as I am finished reading the book, unless I wrote notes then I can hold off a couple days but I only write notes on books that are for blog tours not my own personal TBR books.

I have been wanting to read Ten can't wait to see what you think, I keep hesitating getting it.

Have a great week!!! Enjoy all your new and old reads :)

    1. I try to write my reviews right away while the book is fresh in my mind, although sometime sleeping on it or waiting a day gives me a perspective. I can't wait long though- or rather I prefer not to. I take notes too- sometimes jsut jotting down a few lines, or if the book is huge or complicted I might have a page or two. I actually just started Ten and read the first few chapters-prety good so far and I think I'll get through it quick, it's not super long. It flows pretty good. Hopefully I'll get a review up quick.

Thanks Michelle, you have a great week too!

  7. OMG..the Goonies..LOL I shall age myself, but I saw the first Star Wars at the drive-in with my parents and siblings. We went in style in -a paneled station wagon. Love the walk down memory lane. I do hope life allows you some time to read this week.

  8. Oh, yes, I can relate to the problem of not recalling a book I read awhile ago...I used to remember them better! Like you said, I think it's because of reading them, one after the other. The reviews do help. I have listed my books read and linked to the reviews on one of my blogs. The trick is to put in enough detail that I recall it without bringing in spoilers!

Enjoy your week...and here's MY WEEKLY SUNDAY/MONDAY UPDATES

    1. That's my problem too- I try to avoid spoilers in my reviews, but sometimes then you forget crucial parts of the story if you don't remember the spoilers! LOL. The reviews totally help! And yes- reading so many back to back, they all flow together after a while.

      Have a great week!

  9. Enjoyed your post today, brought back memories! You read the first Harry Potter, and I remember going as soon as the bookstore opened the day after the midnight release with my son, because he couldn't stay up late enough to go and he wanted to buy it himself :) Also Goonies, my oldest daughter loved that movie. And Star Wars brings back memories of going with my older brother to see the very first one in the theater and coming out and saying, "wow". So thanks for a trip down memory lane. Good books and movies stay in our thoughts forever :)

  10. That's awesome you finally read the first HP book. I started the series when only the first 3 book where released and I basically read those back to back. And the wait for the next books was a long one.
We didn't got any snow here this year and while the temperatures have been rising, last week we had some wind and rain as well as some nice days.
I hope you have a nice week :)

    1. Me too, it's been hard only getting through one book a week, and sometimes not even that. Hopefully I'll get a little more reading in at night and weekends. I started Ten today actually and hope to finish soon, good so far.

  13. I like having plenty of books on hand to read. I used to hate it when I'd finish a book and have nothing to pick up after it. I'd even purposely slow down towards the end of a book so I wouldn't have to end it yet. I think those days are long gone. Now I have a lot to review as well as the books I pick up at the library. It also helps that I hear about so many good books from other bloggers!

I am curious about how things will go with Game of Thrones. I didn't realize there were going to be deviations from the books. I have only read the first book and thought Season One was pretty faithful to it.

    1. I like that too. It's a good feeling to have some reads waiting in the wings. AS I get close to the end of a book I start looking forward to the next one, or even wondering which one to read next. :) And I get lots of ideas from other blogs too- just today I found one I want to read while perusing the Sunday Posts...

I think GoT will deviate from the books more as the show goes on. The first few seasons were pretty faithful, but now... watching the trailer and seeing what they have in mind, I think we're going to see more changes. I'm not sur how I feel about that, but a little leery ...

  15. I have such mixed feelings about this whole Game of Thrones situation. HBO should have known that GRR Martin wasn't going to get his act together; however, I hate all of Martin's ideas for extending Game of Thrones while he finishes books 6 and 7. I feel that the TV show has been a much tighter series than the books. I do not want four seasons of AFFC and ADWD (especially since GRRM probably won't finish books 6 and 7 within the time frame!).

    1. Yeah, I don't really like those ideas for extending the show either, although I don't mind them slowing down a bit (for xample there's talk they'll hit some book 5 plot as soon as this season). The problem is some of the actors are aging and you can't slow that down. :) So they're in a bind either way. I'm getting resigned to the fact that the show is just going to have to finish as best they can while he struggles along with the last two books. I'd much rather read the end before seeing HBO's version, but doesn't look like that's going to happen.

    2. How do you think they will work book 4 on the show? I only got part way through book 4 and had to stop listening because all the new characters made it REALLY confusing and the narrator on the audiobook was horrible.

      Delete
    3. I just read today that they are going to cut out a lot of book 4 and 5 subplots, as they're not essential to the main story. While I understand that, it also means (I think) that they will move through the story faster, since they're leaving stuff by the wayside, which then means they catch up to MArtin a lot faster.

  16. i do have that same problem if I don't write the review asap , but sometimes I just want to read or listen to that NEXT one ! then it's back to read the plot and jog my memories of what I absorbed whilst reading... ;) it all gets done eventually.
what I don't like, is having to finish the older ones before requesting new titles for review!

  17. I try to write my reviews within a couple of days, I highlight and put notes in my kindle otherwise when I have a backlog of reviews (like now lol) I'd have no hope. And I love looking back on reviews, especially the historical fiction, I get confused when I've read so many Tudor books or Eleanor of Aquitaine stories, re-reading reviews gets it straight in my head again :)

Ten looks chilling! I think I may even have it on my kindle ... hope you enjoy it! Have a great week and happy reading!

I have bought a few newer things but trying not to get too carried away. :) I do have a lot of stuff to read, books I'm looking forward to, and not enough time. That's a good problem to have though I guess, I'll get to then all eventually... hopefully. :)

  26. Since I read a lot of books, I try to write down my thoughts as soon as I am finished with the book or even jot down a thoughts while still reading. The Games of Thrones series will be interesting for sure. I hate to see them deviate too far from the books.

    1. I do that too, and it helps a lot. Sometimes at review time I go off the notes, and sometimes I don't- just depends on the book. You should have seen the notes I took on the last GoT book- good grief! I don't want them to get too crazy on the show either, although GRRM is making it a little hard for them. :)

  27. I keep a physical book journal beside me to avoid jumbling up books, especially if I'm going through a busy period in which I can't review books right after I've read them. This way I remember details as well as first impressions.

I find the tension between George R.R. Martin and the show producers quite fascinating, especially in terms of what will happen after they've gone through all his books - he tends to take a while writing them, and I doubt he'll pop out a bunch of sequels in time for them to use his material.

Love your reads for this week. Enjoy!
