Sunday Post #386

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba at the Caffeinated Book Reviewer
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews
It's Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Book Date

I think a lot of us breathed a sigh of relief this week. For me, it's more about competence than ideology. Environmental issues are big for me, I almost went into environmental law, so to see the carnage wreaked there the last four years was difficult. In other news, I'm reading a fun retro book for Vintage SF Month. And several people have asked about the Bookish Games.

The Games are where you have two (or more) sides- Town and Mafia. And whatever factions there are in addition. Mafia tries to kill the Townies during the Night, and Town tries to identify the mafia (and kill 'em) during the Day. Games last weeks and you can find the latest chaos here

PULP COVER OF THE WEEK:

BOOKISH LINKS

This is a nice walking tour through an island near Tokyo.

Not sure who's seen this, but a disturbing look at the Capitol riot.

  1. Those are some really neat art pieces this week! Different from the usual cyberpunk, but I like it! I'm not sure what I'm looking at in Dark Metal, but at first I thought it was like a train barreling down on the woman. Very cool imagery, regardless.

  2. That game looks fun ! That video on the riot is disturbing, it's the right word... Fortunately, it's over - at least for now ! I love the cyberpunk image with the cat and that video with the penguin is great, they really seem to be happy to see each other :) Have a great week-end Greg !

  3. I definitely breathed a sigh of relief this week and I'm not even from the USA, so I can only imagine how it must have felt like for you! I always love those Tokyo walking tours and that Wish You Were Here art is gorgeous!

Wow, I didn't know you did! Also, Trump's choices have affected the whole world, not only the U.S.

I remember Asia's covers! The pyramid shape was a recurring symbol, wasn't it?

LOL, I love the two penguins who decide to change course. Who knows why they would do that.

  5. I'll admit I had tears in my eyes during the inauguration 😁 I saw that video of the penguins earlier in the week, so cute! Have a good week, Greg😁

  7. I definitely breathed a sign of relief this past week, that's for sure!

  8. I love penguins. It's fun to see them hopping around like that.

  9. I'm hoping that things will be quiet for a little while at least!

  10. I also felt like I was able to take a breath this week. The past four years have been taxing, but I am hopeful that the next four will be better if we continue to be active citizens (and vote!). Environmental law sounds really interesting -- I have recently been wondering whether a career in law is something that I might want to do after college, and I would be curious to learn more about what drew you to that field.

  11. I avoiding the news at this point. Maybe living in ignorant bliss is the answer.

Great photos this week. You always post such fascinating artwork.

  12. I love those, like a gentle, almost romantic cyberpunk. It was wonderful seeing the changeover this week and for Americans to finally breathe that sigh of relief. I'm hoping this will be the beginning of all conservative governments around the world being voted out, including Australia.

  13. It was like a breath of clean air this week as our new President was sworn in. As you said it is a matter of competence over ideology. Environmental issues are big for me also. It's been such a rough four years. I hope you are enjoying your reading. I need to turn my computer off and go spend some quality time with my book. :-) I hope you have a great week, Greg.

  14. I just hope as a country you don't repeat the same mistake in 2024 that you did in 2016. Trump still has a huge following there it seems. Despite (or possibly because of) the last four years. Really nice art this week, I especially like the one with the cat.

  15. The environment is a big thing for me too, and it felt like there were about a million steps back the last four years. It's been upsetting when they know the damage they're doing and they just don't care if it means money. Penguins! So cute!

  16. What a sigh of relief on Wednesday. I have so much hope of better things and of the damage of the last 4 years being undone. Seeing Biden rejoin the Paris Agreement was a great start.

  17. I think the entire planet let out a sigh of relief. I'm very happy for us all. Love the art you chose to share today. And the penguins video made me chuckle. I adore penguins. Happy reading :D

  18. I watched the inauguration too. It was very emotional. So happy that the US is finally having a true leader again after all the turmoil during the past four years. Happy reading, Greg.

  19. In addition to being gorgeous, environmental law points out that you're more than just a pretty face.(lol) I'm super impressed, Gorgeous Greg! Hugs and hope you're doing well. RO

  20. I'm so pleased for the US and hope you'll see lots of improvements soon. I'm right there with you on the environmental issues. The UK is a mess and I would love to see a different government in charge here.

The Bookish Games sounds like a lot of fun. I might join in in the future.

Those penguins are definitely having an important conversation.

  21. I always enjoy your videos and thanks for sharing them. I am really hopeful for the US government change and thankful that all the dramas would be down for a while. I hope you enjoy the change too.

  22. We disagree on politics but we can still be friends. :) I hope these four years go by quick without much damage.

Great art you found as always!!
Have a great week and happy reading!

  23. It's nice to have a president more concerned about the people and less about his rating.
Those games always look like so much fun. I followed a few time.

Have a great week, Greg! Happy Reading!

  24. I may not be American but I understand that the new president is a big turning point for a lot of things (hopefully). Hoping things will look up from here on out! And I also really like listening to nature sounds from time to time.

  25. Watching the footage of the invasion is frightening. Thank you for leavening it with that delightful video of the penguines:). Yes... the environment is taking a hammering - and starting to hammer back. We have had floods this week in the north, to the extent that it simply doesn't make headlines the way it used to. And the wildfires raging around the world look horrible. Despite all of that, Greg - I hope the coming week is a peaceful one.

  26. I didn't know you almost went into environmental law? When tRump trolls were spamming Bernie's page on Facebook, during the primaries, I used to go to their profiles trying to see what made them tick, and one thing that seemed a common thread whether working poor, middle class, or rich was nature activities: fishing, camping, hiking, kayaking, etc... and I could never understand where the disconnect came from. Especially when they had photos of doing these activities with kids and grandkids. How did they not care he was destroying the environment? 😐

The terrorist attack on the Capital Building was mind blowing. I had been happy at first that so many of them had been arrested, but now I'm seeing that most of them are free on bail. 😐

I am loving seeing the vintage SciFi Covers. πŸš€

I hope you have a wonderful new week. 🌞

  28. Great videos! I love the penguins!!

Enjoy your week and relax into the calm of a New Administration, in which work is being done and sarcasm and cruel tweets are a thing of the past.

  33. I like the District Cyberpunk graphic with the cat! I do hope that it truly is a new day for America and that the sun shines brightly on you all.

    The penguin video is funny!!!

    Have a good week Greg.

  35. It was good to see Biden put the environment at the top of his list, I think the majority of the world breathed a collective sigh of relief when the change of power happened.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I know I definitely feel relieved this week. It feels like a weight has been lifted!

    ReplyDelete
  37. It has been hard to see all of the things that have been done to our environment. I am so happy that the change in command is over and we can move forward. I hope you have a great week, Greg!

  38. I was so worried something would happen at inauguration, so I'm just glad it went ok. Definitely concerned about the environment too. Wow, I love that Wish You Were Here piece!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh wow, so cool that you considered environmental law! I feel like that would be a deeply frustrating career though, considering how things have gone down. I am containing myself and not responding directly at the people who say they hope the years go by "without much damage", like ma'am did you miss the pandemic that killed hundreds of thousands of people? The riots that killed a few more? The racism (and yes, again, killing) that ran around not only unchecked but encouraged by so-called "leaders"? Cool, cool, you're worried about... the man who wants people to NOT DIE? Wants us to not have actual Praimfaya? Wants people to be treated fairly and equally? Wow, what a monster πŸ™„

Okay I needed to get that out bwhaha. LOVE the art as always. Wish You Were Here and Alpha are my faves! Also gotta show the kids those penguins, because they are obsessed and the clip is adorable!

  41. I love the video of the penguins! We found a channel that looks like it's run by some kind of seal refuge or maybe aquarium and it's just videos of seals doing seal stuff so we've been wanting to branch out into other cute aquatic animals. Have a great week!

  42. Trump emboldened our Prime Minister to reject climate change concerns, I’m hoping with Biden in office he’ll be under more pressure to rethink his position.

Wishing you a great reading week

  43. The Games look amazing, hope you have a grand time with that!

And the next best thing is the piece on the Penguins -- they really *are* exchanging information! We know so little about communication in the animal kingdom; the closest I remember is a piece about porpoise cooing being codewords for specific emotions.

  44. It was a "sigh of relief" sort of week. Now, back to reality and Republican intransigence. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  45. Oh yeah, very huge sigh of relief on Wednesday. I'm pretty sure it was the happiest I've been in 4 years, lol. I also agree with your environmental concerns and hope that fixing what Trump did is one of Biden's top priorities.

  46. I was just reading that New Yorker article about the Capitol riots right before your post! I didn't watch much video from that day, so it was strange to see the events the reporter wrote about enacted in front of my eyes. It's still so unbelievable!
I'm not sure about today's Top Ten Tuesday topic either. I don't keep good reading stats, so although I'm sure I read several books by authors who were new to me in 2020, I don't know if I want to spend the time researching and posting about them!

  47. I feel a huge sigh of relief that we have a new president!

  48. Aww, look at the penguins! I felt the sigh of relief during the inauguration too. I just want things to be calmer. I don’t want a new Twitter scandal every day. Have a great week!

  50. Yes, competence is kinda important when you run a country. Lol. I also am relieved.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I felt like a huge weight was lifted from my shoulders as soon as Biden and Kamala were sworn in. I didn't even realize how stressed out I'd been until our "leadership" finally changed.

The penguins do like they're giving report! "There's a sea lion hanging out east of Black Rock but there's a delicious school of fish on the west side."

"Dark Metal II" looks like a cross between Star Wars (Leia with Jabba) and The Matrix.

    Enjoy your week!
